Martin Taupau - Discussion Thread

Interesting contrast that some people say WT should be loyal to Farah and the service he's given, but if Taupau asks for a release, that same loyalty should apply considering how greatly we've increase his market value in 2 seasons.

If Marty goes, I'll miss that good 20 minutes he provides, in typical Tigers fashion.

Marty is a long way off being the consistent back rower than he probably already thinks he is. It's funny as fans we only remember the good stuff. All year he's been starting and gassed after about 15 minutes. How's he gonna go with 2 less interchanges (that will be taken from the back row) next year? 80 minute back towers will be like gold and Marty is only effective for 15 at a time. I think Jesse was fantastic at lock in the few games he had there.. He's not as dynamic as Marty, (when Marty is dynamic) but more of a grinding worker that's more effective for a longer period of time. Either way, we pulled Marty from ressies at the dogs, we came second last WITH Marty… How much worse can next year be? If say we'll use other clubs desire for him to our advantage and send some trash with him - or get something we need in return.... Maybe we'll swap him to the Titans for a Sydney born strike centre they may have... Who knows. But if he's too good for us, then he best be off...

They can have him if they they take Farah aswell at full price. Otherwise don't release him.

Farah won't leave Sydney Nathan Brown confirmed tonight even if he was interested it is a no from Farah as he won't leave Sydney.

Didn't see that. He's really limiting his options. Maybe he's holding out for a full payout then trying to find a club.

He's got his business here, so it's unlikely that he'd leave Sydney.

Also think he will not want to be too far way from his family especially his father for obvious reasons.

So a few things. If he's under contract why is he linked to anyone? Is the suggestion that his manager is shopping him around? What have the Titans or any other club done if anything? Has MT himself commented?

Personally I'd be disappointed if the club let him go. We should hold him to his contract.

We just released Galloway our roster is a Joke. We can't release Internationals from our team without forwards to replace him. The blind support for WT recruitment and retention by some on the forum is amusing to say the least. We resign Lovett and release Taupau. Taylor is a genius.

Scary thinng is Tedesco is managed by Sam Ayoub…so are half of the big names in NRL...none will come to us now and Teddy will be talked into asking for a release.

Don't stress , we can bring in MORE plodders !!!!

Just about every club in the NRL will chase him. The Warriors are keen and I would imagine if Taylor stays we will have difficulty retaining him.

I think if Taylor stays we will have difficulty retaining all of our players

Now now young fella, did you forget that JT is cleaning out the deadwood, reinventing the wheel and introducing defensive structures, most importantly he has belief.. Our for and against improved in 2015, statistical proof end of story..

:roll Thanks TOB. I love a good belly laugh!

do you all remember when this club with the same board signed brad takarangi at the end of last year..when jt joined the club he then decides in his wisdom not to go through with the signing.so brad signs for Parramatta and guess what…**we pay a large portion of his contract**.

this is 100% not correct

My bet is that both clubs have offered significant coin as he would have signed as on bargain basement deal given he was relatively unknown.

I still think that there is probably an element of dissatisfaction with the coaching and administration which is adding some fuel to the fire.

He has a young family and probably trying to do the right thing by them so I really can't blame him for wanting to move on. That and we are a complete rabble!

Agree. I love Marty and would dearly like to see him stay with us. He is such an asset to our club, on and off the field.
But he's got to do what's best for himself and his family, financially wise.

There's a lot of unstable rosters around at the moment
– weak teams trying to boost,
-- clubs with cap issues,
-- teams whose roster has declined rapidly (eg Souths)

You need quality bait to catch good fish- and though I'd hate to see him go, Taupau is our best bait...

Who knows, we might score a partially funded centre/backrower or both?

Will Taylor go as well and in return we get Maguire?

Yep, i like the sound of that. Maguire will get the whip cracking and get the team in to shipshape.

I'd suggest this may be the result of structures in 2016 and the coaching staff have spoken to him. Currently, Marty needs to accept he will be playing Prop or Prop Rotation next year. If he is unhappy with this scenario, what is he going to do to get his lungs better so he can play bigger minutes?

I'd hope the club can afford some specialized training for Taupau. If he can get bigger minutes which are effective, he could be anything!
