Martin Taupau - Discussion Thread

Could be a ploy as well all

Wouldn't be the first time a player manager "accidently " sends a contract to the wrong person trying to up his asking price

Also, Taupau didn't tweet a manly hashtag either, if anything it's actually the Welsh football team's slogan. Maybe he's defecting to play football for Wales?? Or maybe he was tweeting about the importance of friendships to a mate/partner… Nope must be a conspiracy! lol

Too many coincidences going on lately if you ask me. Pretty convenient that he just so happened to use a hash tag that is also manlys membership slogan (Google 'stronger together manly' if you don't believe me). You can justify everything that has happened and give an explanation that makes sense because he is not being direct about it, he is being subtle. I reckon Marty and his management have been playing games from the start, getting his price up as high as he can whilst still being able to maintain that he has done nothing wrong - isn't confirming "rumours" but isn't denying them either.

Seriously, a Canadian theatre critic named J Kelly (who is a real person btw - not fake has 7500 followers, 26000 tweets etc), was emailed a Taupau contract meant for manly Ceo Joe Kelly. That is just something that can't be made up.

LOL it seems to be legit too, email was sent to the wrong J Kelly (was meant for Manlys CEo Joe Kelly). Hilarious. Cant imagine Taupau will be too happy with his manager or whoever sent it.

Seems legit? Okay suppose I want to send an email to Joe Kelly of Manly and I have some experience with the NRL. Surely I'd know his email address would end with @seaeagles.com.au and not whatever this Canadian dude has for his email. It sounds like either breathtaking ignorance or it sounds like BS.

According to the contract with Manly Taupau is there from 2016-2019….so it appears we have released him to play with them for this year...poor form if true...

If the sender has J Kelly from the sea eagles and J Kelly the Canadian in his email address book….it will select the first J Kelly according to the sort selection....common error when sending emails...

He's a real person but his name is actually J Kelly Nestruck and he writes for the globe and mail. Joe Kelly is the Manly CEO apparently. So we're led to believe someone thinks his email is <jkelly@globeandmail.com>or <jkelly@hotmail.com>and despite being heavily involved in league doesn't think it's <jkelly@seaeagles.com.au>or similar. It's hard to swallow.</jkelly@seaeagles.com.au></jkelly@hotmail.com></jkelly@globeandmail.com>

I'm sick of the Tigers becoming a bloody halfway house. We give so many fringe players an opportunity and they bail at the first chance they get.

Maybe we need to change a number of things to get our house in order, but at the end of the day their has to be some sort of coaching strategy in this.
- Marty isn't on much
- No gain in letting him leave
**- Stick him on the bench. If he doesn't like it he can let his form drop and ruin his own career**

I'm over this shit. Watch what will happen in 2016…Woods will carry all the load and everything will go to shit

Why would it ruin his career if he is allegedly going to Manly in 2017 anyway…why waste a bench spot ...give it to somebody who wants to be here say McConnachie or Griffen who'll bust their arse to prove themselves...

1) it's disrespectful to talk about playing for another club whilst still in the old team colours.

2) even if he has signed a deal, we still have until the June deadline to negotiate so the contract isn't worth the paper its written on.

Disclaimer: I'm not exactly sure of the deadline month, but it's ages away and I'm sure Pascoe is…

I have absolutely no issue with him busting his gut to raise the value of his contract with the Tigers and feeling out how the change of management goes, whilst holding the silver tails as a backup incase he gets injured and his dollar value goes down. This is the perfect way for the Tigers to hold all the negotiating cards.

1\. The June 30 dead-line rule has been scraped in the wake of the DCE fiasco of last year…the rule now is a player has a 10 day cooling off period once signing a contract with any Club ...that's it...

2\. The kicker here is that rival Clubs are not 'supposed' to sign or even enter into negotiations with a player until November 1 in the year preceding that in which the player comes off contract.....Hence the veiled denials....Taupau can sign with Manly or any other rival Club after Nov 1 for the 2017 season ...we would then have 10 days to change his mind...

3\. If he does so.... the decision the Club would then have to make is whether or not they are prepared to have a player at the Club who sees their future elsewhere and/or what compensation we could receive in return for releasing Taupau from his 2016 contract...

Well explained Geo. Thanks!

I'm A ok with this as long as we get something back in return seeing as how he's still under contract. Fair enough he isn't on much, but you would think given his worth and how keen Manly would be to take him a yr early that they would be more than willing to trade a player to us for him if someone in our organisation had the brains to realise we hold the cards in relation to 2016.

So one explanation is that it was mailed to the wrong person on purpose, which wouldnt surprise me given my theory on the game playing I think has been going on. Or it truly was emailed to the wrong person by accident, which can happen. As mentioned by another poster, the sender may have had the email address added as a contact from a previous email. Joe Kelly Ceo may also have a personal email that he requested the contract be sent to that is similar to the film critics email…Is he on holiday/out of office and can't access the work email currently? There are plenty of potential explanations as to how this has happened, I just don't think something this bizarre could be made up.

***Edit***

Here is the front page of the attachment emailed to the theatre critic....

Don't clubs send contracts to player managers, not vice versa,? a signed contract would be sent back to the club, this one is not signed

Disappointing, especially to come out like this.
Concerning that one of our better players wants out, especially one under contract that I assume would not have been on much $$$ (for 2016 at least). I hope we're getting something out of it.

geez i cant wait for next year to start…seriously if we win more than 4 games then i will be shocked.we have no forwards as we have let go galloway, lodge and now taupau and in their places we have signed reserve graders like griffin, chee kam and mconnahie who was in fact reserve for ipswich in their grand final team.as for taupau i bet you any money we will be paying part of his wage next year when we should be playing hardball.

Wasn't his manager. Marty is in the UK with the All Blacks ATM, so Hired a lawyer to act on his behalf to get things sorted before tigers resume training. It was this lawyer who has nothing to do with rugby league that emailed it to the wrong person not his manager.
