Matt Groat signs with Dragons

I**ronically the Dragons were the team that pretty much ended his 1st grade** career with the Tigers.

They have a habit of nuffying our signings anyway - David Gower was once rated the NEXT BIG THING, and he's been barely sighted.

Brisbane?

Bit of a cross roads for Groat, he could be a good prop with a long career. But so many times it goes the other way.

Personally I think he will mature and be around the NRL for many years to come. He is typical of the saying that props usually reach their peak in their late 20s.

Good luck Matt! Wish you the best.

Nono, not referring to injury - referring to the game he got found out as a horrible lateral defender - absolutely found out by the likes of Weyman and Prior.

the one where Moltzen got schooled by the horribly average Vidot in 2011 - we lost it 30-10 or something

He's definitely not going to be a repeat of Fifita, thats all i'll say

Agree, I dont see the bloke being a game breaker like Fifita can be, I see his potential being a Sauce amplified…. A starting prop that sucks the "d" in and grind them down.

was a big strong kid in his junior days , but the pack caught up to him in size and he will never be a top line first grader .is very very weak in defence .

Whatever happens, I just hope he gets the opportunity in 1st grade again, even if it's just to line Ben Teo up one day.

Hmm a little annoyed that signing Groat was one of the reasons we let Fifita go and now he is gone with no fanfare and Fifita is the best prop in the country. **I don't think Groat has the heart to play rough and tumble with the big boys.** I hope I'm wrong and he comes good though. Good luck.

Pretty rough call questioning his ticker IMO. By all means say he doesn't have the skills or work ethic required but to question his toughness is pretty weak, he has already mixed it with the big boys and it was only an illegal shoulder to the head that brought him down.

He was struggling. But no more than most young 20 year old props thrown into first grade because of injury before their time. Death riding a player and pointing out every single one of his mistakes can make anyone look worse than they really are.

Groat was struggling long before the shot from Teo. Macca isn't far off the mark.

He may well have been struggling through either skill or fitness but for some nuffy to question his heart or lack of it is piss poor. Groat has proven he has far bigger figs than any of us on here because he has played 1st Grade with the elite players in this country. That alone is proof of his courage.

Hope the dragons watched his "highlight" video before taking him on.

and Yes, that is Groats' management who put those "highlights" together.

As poor as that highlight reel is, he looks better than I remembered. More mobile, and he manages to get tackled on his front and get a decent play the ball often.
