Matt Lodge New York thread

I have three sons similar in age, good lads, and while they think they know it all, some of the decisions they make are questionable at the best of times. I see the whole situation as very sad for the family, however fully understand the victims may view it otherwise. If you manage to get your kids through these years unscathed, take a deep breath and be thankful. I for one just hope that at sometime in the future Matthew sorts himself out, with or without Rugby League.

Hear hear. I have a boy of two and I already worry about how his mum and I are going to deal with his bad decisions down the track, just as I think of how lucky I was to largely get away with some of my own.

I'm not saying we should give people who victimise innocent members of the community a pat on the back and a lollipop (which seems to be the accusation from the talk radio crowd every time anyone argues anything less than hanging for jaywalkers). But it does seem that the thing we're increasingly missing in society nowadays is empathy. And that means for both victim and perpetrator. In the vast majority of cases I don't think we can just say "he's a scumbag" and give up on a person.

Maybe Lodge needs some time off the streets purely for the protection of those around him - it certainly seems that he can't, at present, be trusted not to ruin other people's days/lives. But after protecting the innocent I believe the priority should be getting him and others like him to a place where violence and intimidation aren't the go-to responses to any setback.

If it was here, he'd probably get a slap on the wrist if guilty because he's a first grader. Over there he's a nobody and will get the book thrown at him if guilty.

Wasn't New York where they introduced the zero tolerance law?

Wow a lot of Judge Jury Executioner Psychiatrist phsycologists HR and righteousness going on in this thread….

But you're above all that eh?

I'm seeing discussion and opinions

Where did I say that…It's just an observation....

I'll wait for the outcome of any Court decisions both here or overseas..there is innocent until proven guilty....then I'll decide...

Yet youve decided plenty on everyone else …youve judged everyone in this thread, the irony.

Ok guilty…I'll do 5 do 10 then....

I know nothing about drugs…except for my observations on both tours of Vietnam but I know plenty about drinking beer and I'm talking cartons...This chap IMO has a connection with drugs because he never actually steps outside with another male and gets down to business as all of us decent players would....That's my two bobs worth. :sign:

What a silly young man, thats his career done and dusted if found guilty.
Wonder since his contract has been torn up we have a bit of cash to lock up Halatau?

I thought we'd used his cash to sign Joel Edwards. Either way, i did hear a couple days ago that Halatau was going to be signed for another yr. Sounds on the money as he wasn't on the list of players leaving the club at the GF Luncheon

He was clearly high on something if he doesn't remember what he did. Wonder when he'll admit that. With this and his local court case, he's going to need a lot of luck to avoid jail.

I don't want to be a weeping heart because there's a fair chance you're right, but I have seen people have complete memory loss after a psychotic episode.

What a choice of destination to go on holidays when you've already got a rap sheet of threatened violence, stalking and sheer disregard for authority.

As mentioned earlier, the US is far different to Oz if you are found guilty of criminal behaviour. Surely someone, family or friends should have suggested a different location. A hard lesson being learnt right now methinks.

It seems like he does have some issues, which if he does, Rugby League is probably a good outlet for him. If he is denied playing footy then he could become even worse.

I think it's more frustration at the squandering of such a talent.

I know my diatribe last night was fuelled by that.

No UD, it's certainly not that from my point of view. I couldn't care less about him squandering his so called talent. The guy stalked and threatened 2 women then ran into an apartment and bashed the tripe out of a guy, who came to their aid - all after already being stood down here for violent and aggressive behaviour shown towards his girlfriend and others. Sorry, but I have no sympathy - drug fueled or not, its unacceptable behaviour that is way beyond that of the likes of twits such as Bird, Myles, Carney & co.

Don't get me wrong Flip - I have no sympathy for the guy whatsoever - go back and check out my diatribe if you wish.

I'm frustrated that will miss out on what he could have potentially brought to our side - that certainly doesn't water down what he has done.

So we let him play because it might be a source of rehab? I don't think so. I'm sure 4 yrs in a US a jail with members of the Krips and Bloods will sort him out. Not our problem, we tried to give him a chance, (more than one actually) but he just spat in our face. Time for the club to wipe their hands of him, which they have done. You can't help somebody if they don't want to help themselves.

Imagine if it was your wife daughter or sister on the end of the stalking and or harassment.
I think it would be a hostile reaction.
Not a great advertisement for rugby league players.

Some parallels here with Ryan Tandy.played in Melbourne. tigers made some bad decisions.

hit the self destruct button and will have to deal with the consequences of his actions.

I hope it is a better outcome for the man than Tandys .

Fair enough UD. I guess I'm just amazed that some on here cannot see past our loss and want to give this guy the 'benefit of the doubt' whilst refusing to recognise that Lodge is an extremely dangerous individual - the kind of guy that they would make a Law & Order episode about.

When the boy's own mother says her son has problems, it's a pretty safe bet they're not minor ones. All very sad.
