Matt Lodge New York thread

There is no excuse for the allegations against him .

That is very poor form and something isn't right with the kid Mentally , cause at some point he should be aware that he is a Professional Football player and the responsibilities it binds him to .

This is not his 1st infringement so he gave the Club no option to take the action it did .
Clearly he needs help and if Guilty of all those allegations ? well a stint in jail might be the wake up call he needs and maybe what his Parents have maybe warned him of .

Maybe he's fine mentally and is just a douchebag. Not everyone who acts like this have mental issues. Some are just bad people unfit to be apart of society. Any perceived mental issues are all speculation ATM.

On Ray Hadley this morning it was stated that a few people that know the Lodge family fairly well, said that Matt has been a problem for a number of years and there have been many incidents but he has been fortunate to date that no convictions have ever been recorded against him. One person even referred to him as a grub.
It seems that ML is quite a loose cannon based on the above. Pity it was never nipped in the bud at an early age as he may pay a price now…..and a USA jail does not sound appealing at all.

Ill think youll find the no convictions are due to his parents both in the police force.
They cant protect him now he is away from the lenient system here

I thought of this too Travis.
But this is his fourth incident while with us… Id say were safe here... II must admit the swiftness of the sacking surprised me

You can rest assured that Lodge has already been given warning notices from previous incidents, so the sacking would have been validated and initiated immediately on confirmation of this latest incident.

The outcome of his trial would be irrelevant; it would be the "disrepute" that led to the contract being torn up. This isn't a "made a first mistake, let's let legal proceedings play out" incident, this is "you have no more warnings, one more incident and you are done".

Good to note that Tigers will offer counselling and off-field support to Lodge, which shows we aren't just washing our hands of him.

Lodge faces 25-year New York jail sentence

Sacked Wests Tigers NRL forward Matthew Lodge has made $US50,000 bail after spending a weekend with murderers, rapists and gangsters in New York's infamous Rikers Island jail complex.
A New York grand jury will determine the charges Sydney rugby league prop Matthew Lodge will face.

If New York prosecutors get their way, Lodge will serve at least a five-year prison sentence. They have charged the 20-year-old from Sydney with burglary in the first degree, which carries a minimum sentence of five years' jail and a maximum of 25 years.

Lodge, who was vacationing in Manhattan, allegedly terrorised two female German tourists who were walking along an Upper West Side street around 4am on Friday.

Lodge must have been hiding in a closet when God was handing out brains, coz he sure didn't get his share. Being a moron won't really cut it as a defence so without doubt his lawyers will find another route to go down. As many people have said it sounds like he has never been forced to pull his head in before for his long list of misdemeanors in our leniant, urine-weak system but the Yanks won't mess around, he will be forced to learn the hard way this time now.
No sympathy from me, he is a 24 carat idiot.

Yet so many people seem to have come to the conclusion that he's mentally ill without a shred of evidence the mental issues exist. It's almost one of those situations where people are like "there's no excuse for what he did but….."

Mental issues may exist, but it could also be true that he's just a moron with an ego. It doesn't take much for guys at that age to think they're 10 feet tall and run the universe.

The bully found cowering in a closet, priceless. Mental problems or not, he has been afforded a hell of a lot more education on behavioral expectations as part of the NRL programs (let alone his officer parents) than many uderpriviliged can ever expect, yet still carries on like a total pork chop.

Hope that he eventually gets himself together, but in the meantime suck it up you bullying fool as you deserve to be punished and feel similar intimidation to that which you have inflicted on others. Bubba likes a bit of meat on his playthings.

Oh good, prison rape jokes. This forum goes from strength to strength.

Mental illness is the 'go-to' defence of many idiots these days GNR in courts of law….. It is the default setting. Lodge is clearly a bullying tool who has somehow evaded consequences for his previous actions and continues with delusions of grandeur that he is above the law. Without wanting to impart any blame on his parents how many people on this forum know someone who's family members are in the police force who get away scot-free with offences that the ordinary Joe Blow would face punishment for? I bet there are plenty. As an example the son of the Police Commissioner here in West Oz has been caught numerous times making methamphetamine and has yet to be adequately punished for it, on one occasion he went to prison for a very short stint in regards to the seriousness of his charge and it became public knowledge that he was secreted out of a back door of the prison so that he couldn't be approached by reporters. ..would the justice system afford that privilege to the ordinary citizen? Not a chance. Time to man up now Lodge and cop what you have probably been deserving of for some time. Whether he is intelligent enough to learn from this is entirely up to him.

Very much a wasted talent.
Will be his final wake up call? Who knows.
He's in control of his destiny, and to be honest, not looking good so far.

Pigs will fly before Lodge realises what a dope he has been. I hold little hope that he will learn from this experience

Yep, things like this brings out the worst in us, or more concerning, our default position and inner self. It's amazing that that post wasn't deleted by the mods on here.

What ever happened to the presumption of innocence? Clearly it doesn't matter. He's been hung, drawn and quartered, psycho-analysed and castigated by …umm....some on here whose past and lifestyles we know nothing about. A disgraceful display of ignorance.

LCA, I think the presumption of innocence reasonably went out the window in this latest incident due to the fact that he is facing basically the same charges in Australia as well. Would be drawing a very long bow to assume that he is innocent in both cases TBH.

As far as Lodge being a wasted talent goes I cannot recall a single highlight from him on the field in his games with WT. Didn't see much of him to be fair but could never quite work out where the huge raps on him were demonstrated on the paddock.

This guy is straight up UNEMPLOYABLE.
The next Arana Taumata.

He's not that impressive as a player but has some hype to him.
**Let him go carry bricks** and play local comp for the rest of his life.

Undeserving clown.

I'm not sure he would be capable of that. We're talking about a bloke that if he were employed as the QC at the M&M's factory he'd be sacked for throwing out all the W's.

… but what would he do with the E's?

Ignorance. There is no need for the presumption of innocence whatsoever in this case, nor room for sympathy. This bully was chasing two women that together would probably struggle to equal his size and threatening them to the point that they were buzzing strangers doorbells to try to get help in their state of despair.

Not content with the fear he was already dishing out he then physically attacks a man and his property that tried to assist and terrorised his family to boot. Just be glad he was not in your inner west street infringing on your or a neighbors family, particularly when you have flown out, or yourself and/or partner out in the south west that he may find a normal target respectively.

This bully deserves to be with those of a similar ilk and I have no problem with him copping a bit of his own medicine by being owned in there.

I really don't see why anyone needs to get all hot and bothered about this. We should all just take a deep breath and then patiently wait while the American wheels of justice come to a conclusion. Following that we should do the same as the Australian wheels of justice grind on.

Nothing to do with us.

I haven't gone through all the previous comments but I'm surprised that the 'My Drink Was Spiked' version hasn't come out in his defence, in regards to the 2 girls, they were tourists who had no idea of how to find a safe place and when they did Lodge apparently took advantage of that and assaulted the apartment owner, serious serious issues here apart from having him having to repay his DAD $$$$$$$.
