Tamou will be a good captain, but will likely only be on the field 45mins a game.

Gives an opportunity to blood someone else while he is taking a breather.

Brooks?

Not a bad idea. It worked for Scott Prince.

Maybe joint captains? Or Brooks as VC.

Brooks is the common denominator. He’s the player, in the position, you want the team to revolve around. He’s the guy who should be controlling possession and field position. He has the skill. He has the competitive streak. It’s time for to be handed more authority imo.

Brooks had 3 try assists last year!!!

Count them, one, two, three

As a halfback that's unacceptable, so do you really want to give him the burdon of captaining the team too?

Perhaps it's best to get him to be the best halfback he can be and hopefully get more than a pathetic 3 try assists before we go making him captain and adding more to his plate.

I thought the Fox Sports article this morning was good PR for the club. Mbye put his support behind Tamou taking the reins, and said that he felt obliged to focus on other players as captain more than himself. Sounds like he's not kicking stones about it (at least not publicly), which means it becomes a non-event for the Slothfield types. Good result all round it seems.

I thought ...gee he must have been thinking of other players in the game against Souffs.

You remember.. the one where he kept running in - in defense and leaving Hoffman isolated to deal with at least two players.

The one where they scored 4 tries.

Glad he was thinking of Hoffman, or it might have been ten tries.

Hoffman had a unlucky night..defnece inside of him was so crap

Mbye had a poor night that night, but he was still our best defensive back in 2020 with the exception of Brooks imo.

He had to go, he barely looked interested in some games.

That statement could apply to 10 players who have gone.
If you’re talking about Mbye, I agree gall, he had his opportunity when Madge was kicking the chair to get on his feet and kick the thing himself. Madge needs a captain who will carry his message. imo

I'm glad he has stepped down but very pleased it was done with grace and not bitterness (outward anyway). It clears the way for Tamou and also leaves clear any potential hiccups if Mbye manages to get a QLD club seeking his services and wanting to negotiate. Not being captain makes that just a bit easier.

I dont think he was a great captain and his onfield actions / inactions certainly didnt display much passion and strategic thinking. Anyhow, good luck to him.

Brooks has 5 TA on fox sports lab? Anyway, you’re basing your opinion on raw data, which needs to be put in context. Benji has 21 TA to his name. Did that raw data save Benji? Why not? Brooks May have been instructed to run? He has 111 runs to Benji’s 49? How many times did Brooks get clean ball with an opposition on the back foot or last tackle in the forty compared to Benji?
I want to see Brooks take the attacking kicks, short and long. Admittedly, his short kicking game went off the boil for some unknown reason, but he definitely has the skill, and it’s the coach’s job to expose that whatever way he can.

It’s a shame really, u can see that mbye has bought into the tigers a lot and the fact u could visibly see the tears in his eyes it shows that he truly wanted to be the leader the tigers needed. Unfortunately this day and age it is easier to blame the captain and coaches then it is for individuals to put there hand up and admit they wer far below there best since mbyes time as captain (mbye definitely hasn’t played his best footy either)!! I will admit I think it’s the best move for him as player and I think he will put his best foot forward and play some good footy just a shame that it had to be this way for him!!

His eyes looked fine to me.

I don't care, he's our halfback and we are going to go nowhere if he has 3 try assists.

I swear.....if he had 1 try assist there would be people making excuses and trying to defend him.

3 try assists for a halfback is not what you want from an NRL halfback, you can come up with all the excuses you like.

Stay with me on my radical idea........ give the captaincy to Brooks (there I said it)

I think Brook’s mindset will change, whereby, he will finally understand it’s his job to grab the team by the collar and be in control.

If he fails than at the end of season move him on, one way or another.

Not a totally rad notion dude. But it'd have to be done the right way.
I'd let Brooksy get a few games under his belt this year to settle in as the dominant shot-caller first, get comfy running the team his way. All the while he'd be observing and learning from Big Jim, then with Madge's blessings, he could go V/C and get a feel for it from there.
As someone else pointed out, Big Jim will spend a bit of time off the park so, regardless, we will need someone else to fill that void.
Maybe Mbye continues as V/C or Douehei steps up to the mark, seeing as he looks destined to start the season in the halves.
Other than that though, there's not alot of other obvious candidates imo.
As for moving him on, I'm backing Brooksy to get back to his better form, and hopefully supercede our expectations.

Madge’s reputation is on the line this year, he’s been handed the clay and the moulding has begun - there won’t be a captain running around in L plates for any period of time, the quest for the trophy starts on Day 1.

Is there any insight into whether MBye will be our fullback for this year?
Providing we don’t get Laurie early. I can’t really see anyone else filling in.
Does anyone have in info on who is training in the role?
Without the captaincy and a full off season without injuries I believe MBye will probably be a decent addition for us there.
Having Laurie part of a stronger squad and pushing for the top spot each week is only going to benefit him and us as well. I think our spine / defence could do with the experience of MBye at the back. The following year, Laurie can come and capitalise on what our spine / team has gained as well as what he has developed in his final year at Penrith.

With Laurie now unlikely to come Mbye is really important to us. He is the only player we have who can play fullback (ex AD but he'll be at 6).

Would have been nice to have a back up heading into the season.

Dont be surprised if we go with Madden 7, Brooks 6 , Douiehi 1 , and Mbye 14, where he belongs, until a real fullback arrives.

Yeah would nice to have at least one specialist fullback at the club even if they're not that great just in case. Maybe Kepaoa can do a decent job he did play some juniors at fullback but it'll be a big ask for him
