McIllwrick vs Ballin

Ballin needs to get on the paddock first and get a few miles into his legs before he needs to come up to NRL. He is very good in the preparation department and he will let the coach know when he is ready.

Once both are fit and playing footy, ultimately it will come down to errors…

Ballin was good in his 40 mins for us last year and should waltz back into the team…..I'm joking. I think when fit we may have 3 good options for dh..,.which is what you need. I wouldn't think liddle is a shoe in.....ballin's experience will be invaluable off the bench when our leaders are having a break.....provided his body is up to it.

Ballin has been out of the game almost as much as Idris and we saw Idris's game. It wasn't bad but he was definitely off the pace.

Ballin will struggle to get a place in front of liddel and mckilwrick only injury and bad performance should see him back in the game.

Idris and Ballin are entirely different propositions. Idris was always a lazy trainer and Ballin the exact opposite. Idris didn't have a big motor whereas Ballin did. If Ballin's knees are up to it he won't be far off the pace. If Ballin is looking good in State Cup he'll get a chance to show his wares in first grade and the coach will go from there…

You mean Ballin the myth. Has played 1 game in over 12 months. Had 2 reconstructions. Possibly the worst signing we have had. Keep him in reserves and use him only if injuries demand it. Mcwillrick snd liddle all year.

He won't play a single ball. His job is done.
The replacements have already been found.

I prefer Matt. He is way better.

Do you mean Matt Mciirick,he will be hard to get out of the team if his performances are better than his first…it was great...

Sorry I was just being a Smart A. As we have two similar players in the same position called Matt. Honestly it's hard to split them. However it's the fittest that should get to start in first grade. In this case McLLwrick. Ballin will have to have very strong performance in reserves to get the position, unless MCLLWRICK stuffs up. Which I can't see happening in the short term.

Everyone needs to remember what we got from Ballin's one game v the Broncos and what Liddle will offer coming on off the bench

No brainer to be honest

MM with Liddle off the bench when he is ready. MM looked sharp and ran with speed, engaged markers and gave crisp service. Surprised me TBH but I hope he makes the 9 his own until Liddle shows his class.

Liddle is out till round 4 apparently, and i would imagine he'll play a couple games in ISP for some match fitness. Ballin will probably be ready to go before Liddle is even fit. So we might see a MM/Ballin combo for a few weeks.

Liddle out until round 4 according to the injury report.
Surely at that stage he can't come straight into the NRL side and will need at least a couple of weeks in reserves.

I can't comment on their commitment to training and desire, but two knee reconstructions is going to take some speed and mobility out of Ballins game. Not to mention he isn't a spring chicken.

I wasn't sure about MM at first but the game against the Cowboys and Souths has me hopeful, his service was solid, only took runs when the opportunity presented, but it was his defence that impressed me, he hit the runner rather catch them. Which meant our defence didn't have to shuffle backwards and extra 5 metres or am I wrong.

McIlwrick was impressive last week, hopefully he keeps that form up.
That said, I suspect that Ballin and Liddle will be playing FG as soon as they're fit and ready.
The Ballin hate on here is a bit bizarre tbh.

I was at the game and his defence was awesome, really hit hard and drove them backwards. He really made Farah look ordinary. So if old age is catching up with our ex hooker, imagine what old age plus 2 knee reconstructions has done to Ballin. No hate for Ballin but just the truth. He has played 1 game for us and im curious where all the love for him comes from.

Ballin has a game that will stand up okay and age will not weary too much, whilst our former nine relied on speed and skills a lot more, which the game and age have long caught up with.

Except him to be playing regular top grade, but hope McIlwrick is good enough to keep him out in at least the short term, as that would mean he and the team are going well.

I fell sorry for Ballin, he still has about 50 years to survive on those troublesome knees. He should be light duties only. Can he be given a job in the club or coaching children? But strictly speaking he should be Manly's concern.

Yes calling ballin a myth bc the guy has had to endure two knee reconstructions is a bit rich. If you couldn't see the potential of his impact in the 40mins he played for us vs the broncs last year you obviously didn't watch the game. He was superb….hopefully the 2nd knee reconstruction hasn't dulled him too much
