Mcilwrick's running game!

Or lack thereof… 15 metres last night!!

I thought for the first half of the season this was a strength of his but it has disappeared, so many times last night there were chances for him to run with markers out of position but he just passed.

He doesn't seem to be playing what's in front of him which is a shame because I thought it was a strength of his game. I known his knees are busted so maybe that is hindering him but without much more in his artillery in attack I hope he finds it again for next season if he is going to be in the team.

McIlwrick is a great back up dummy half. His defence is really good. He provides a average service but that is okay a lot of the times.

We need a dummy half though that can do a lot more than that. We need a threat in that position. I'm hopeful that Liddle steps up and does the job there next season.

I haven't been too impressed by Liddle, hope there is more to his game than what we've seen so far otherwise our number 9 will continue to be a weak link next season.

Cue BBF….....

Liddle is very creative, good quick runner from DH and a good defender.

I am sure the two things he will be working on during the off season will be to gain a little more muscle up top and to work on his kicking game.

I think this guy is the best up and coming DH in the NRL bar none. He is almost there, the off season and Cleary will put the icing on the cake.

I agree, McIlwrick is only a back up. He's an excellent defender but that's all. His game is far too one dimensional in today's game.

The best we have looked the past number of years was a 20 minute spell at hooker by Brooks under Potter. He was a natural out of dummy half.

He might just have been told not to run so Cleary can get closer to 80mins out of him.

But I agree, is a major strength of his. I reckon we'll see it return when we get a proper second hooker back on the bench.

I was thinking the same hammertime, I watched him last night and he didn't even seem to be looking to run and from memory the one time he did made some metres. Problem I see with a hooker not running is it doesn't put opposition in two minds as they are only looking for the pass.

I do agree with others though that he won't be in first grade next year apart from injury to Liddle, I'm just a bit surprised to see him drop that attacking side to his game.

Lichaa is available

Glad you put in the

If you hadn't I think you would have been certified. :roll

I watched a lot of Lichaa as a junior and one of his great strengths was his strong running game out of dummy half. He was exceptionally strong and difficult to put to ground. I feel he has had this part of his game coached out of him. Cleary could work wonders with him.

I agree. Mcwillrick drop in standard has been alarming. If he is our back up then let's hope liddle doesn't get injured. I believe we need one more dummy half.

I think you will find a couple of those opportunities were on the fourth tackle, so had he run they would have had a makeshift forward at dummy half for the all important last play.

All his runs yesterday seemed to be a Robbie impersonation playing for a penalty which were not forthcoming so I blame the refs…

McIlwrick kept the middle tight defensively ..which is his main role within this teams structure..

Killa was on fire till Cleary dropped him for Liddle

Sad to say but he hasnt found that form since…

He should have always been left as the starting Hooker the Form he was in regardless of Liddle being the future and all

hahahaha
Like Robbie was told not to touch the ball so many times or kick the ball

Look at the kick from Granville

Hookers are smart and instinctive

No coach should alter a hookers game… IMO

Re-watch the Newcastle game, he terrorised them out of dummy half.

I think Liddle is really impressive and has a lot of potential. Should be our hooker for years to come.

I read somewhere during the week that the Kiwi's were struggling to have an in-form hooker for the world cup. I wonder if Mcilwrick will get a shot. Defensively he is good and if all they want is to give the ball to the big Kiwi forwards or Johnson then he might be a chance. If so it would help to get some game time with Matalino and Packer for next year presuming they get picked.
