Well, this does me. The less I know about the inner workings of the club the better off I'll be. Sounds like amateur hour and makes me genuinely wownder if Benji really didn't know he was going to be out. I don't read other clubs forums but for those who do, do these sorts of things happen there too?

No not really. We seem to be the only club never looked like making the playoffs in a decade and looking for answers. Other clubs appear to be much better organised, have great training facilities, a home ground, a different organisational structure with accountability and less cream buns flying across the lunch room during morning coffee breaks.

That's right - GC Bulletin says he could push for a bench spot but more likely won't get a run until SOO if it moves back to mid year. Strange move. Says we were only offering a 1 year extension they came in with 2 yr deal. We must have been offering peanuts.

We need another second rower at the club otherwise one injury and it’s literally Chee Kam on the bench and that’s not good enough

It's not great to lose him but he is definitely not a player that you get into a bidding war over. It is impossible to be critical when you do not know how much the Titans are paying him.

I dare say they’re paying a decent amount more than we are. Would he surprised if he even plays if their whole team if injury free there.

What’s important now is who we sign in his spot. We need a second rower pretty bad

The hard part is there is not a lot around, losing him hurts, but paying him $250k+ would hurt us more

I believe I read on here somewhere that he was on about 150k and we were baulking at increasing that at all.

Ridiculous if true and no wonder he packed his bags (good for him, bad for us).

I would be reluctant to go to $200k for him so it would depend on what the Titans offered, he really only has 3 months of quality football under his belt.

And yet we are paying $300/350 for an unproven front rower from parramatta go figure

Mate he was not a standout in the lower grades and has played 3 months of consistent good footy. That's all he has shown.

That is a damn sight more than Mansour and Jimmy the Jet have shown in the past 2 years.

I wouldn't sign Mansour and I'd offer Roberts one year at minimum so that isn't saying much.

I wouldn't offer Jimmy an ice cream, let alone a contract.

Ad you put a downer on Sam Mac - at least he tries 100% when on the field - the Jet could catch a cold between plays.

That is fine, I have watched a lot of Sam and his form this year came from out of the blue. Yes he might continue it, but he might not either. Plenty of players flash for a couple of months then disappear again.

Contract year always makes them play a bit better. Though I did think he was a keeper, but not to be.

The boys called him Madges love child and McIntyre was happy playing under Madge. The info I heard was Hartigan wasn't really a fan so maybe they've got somebody else on the hook ?‍♂️
I just don't understand why Maguire wasn't all over this, it's not like he was distracted with finals footy ?‍♂️


Is it really Madge’s job to deal with the contract paperwork?

Definitely not but it's his team and the salary cap is Hartigans responsibility.
All clubs have recruitment meetings and the coach has a big say on who he wants


Are you saying it was not an oversight? That Madge didn’t want him? Then why would they offer him a contract and simply not execute it for 2 weeks?

Not saying that but there might be an issue with roster management and they're not on the same page.
My opinion is the recruitment team bring players names to the coach, the recruitment team then talk to their manager and if all goes well they all have a meeting with the coach. After that meeting the coach should have a final say. I'm not sure that's happening.
As for McIntyre, Maguire liked him but I heard the offer was below minimum, if possible, and for 1 year so somebody at the club dropped the ball.

Grubby move by him IMO.

Don’t begrudge the kid getting more money though, but a handshake is a handshake.

same sentiment mate, he is a good guy but they have to do what they have to do... their careers are short and they have to look after themselves and the club has to look after itself too, sadly we don't know what's going on in the club but hopefully everything is going forward not backwards

I appreciate what you have said and many have and will accuse me of making a mountain out of a mole hill but I think what you need to understand that it is not just about the loss of Sam McIntire.

Sam was the kind of guy that is needed in every squad as a depth signing. Unfortunately, at the Tigers, players like him tend to end up somewhere in the first 17, but I believe that on the money that he was on we really needed to keep him and if there is any truth in the story from the POM that we sat on the contract for 2 weeks and didn't wrap him up just smacks of complete incompetence.

We then hear that the coach was completely blind sided by his departure. If there is any truth to it then it sounds like the coach just may have thought that he may have been a keeper.

Add to this the fiascos with the Mitchell, JAC, Josh Aloaia contract negotiations, premature comments made by our chairman that were probably best not to have been publicly stated in the first place. We then have a CEO who projects a less than professional looking image and seems to have us linked to washed up discards from other clubs.

Sure, we have signed some good young players with potential, but that is all they are at the moment. I hope that they end up being superstars, but on our past track record you would have to question our ability to retain that talent down the track.

The reason for my disappointment is not just the departure of Sam McIntyre, but an ongoing accumulation of events that leave me with very little confidence in what is happening at the Tigers and gives me very little confidence moving forward.

There’s a lot of people to blame for this but McIntyre isn’t one of them.

How do we know? I really like McIntyre as a player and think highly of him as a player. It seems likely that we just didn't prioritise and pursue his signature as we should have, so our fault, but how do we know for sure whether we had an agreement with him and after that he didn't look elsewhere?
