Yep no overseas 3 year retirement fund for him . He’s going to bleed us for every last penny ( totally entitled to , not judging ). Just wishing we could get him off the books . But thanks Ivan

Contract up at the end of the year anyway? Only 4 games left. Hardly worth an announcement..

Oh could you imagine the media smashing again if we didn't thank him for the huge 10 games he played.

10 games
Wow
Getting paid $400,000 a season
That works out to $120,000 per actual game played
That's equivalent to $3,120,000 a season for 26 games

Now that's value for money
But wait there is more
Packer and Reynolds
I dont even want to do the figures on those two

Had to pay for those Tattoos somehow

And the Camaro!

Good on him. I cringed every time he got picked but you know what I never got the feeling he wasnt putting in. Its just his best wasnt good enough anymore. He isnt big , fast or skillful. He was good for a few years there at Souffs and Im not sure how, his neck injury surely didnt take everythin out of him.

REgardless, a long way from my favourite Tiger but still a Tiger and as far as I could see, he did his best and that is all I could want. Despite the fact that he rarely got a look in in first grade, he never appeared to drop his head and right up until his post today has seemed a club man. There is respect worthy in all of that.

Good luck Chris.

He was damn good for the Titans in 2016. Pre-neck injury it looked like a great signing. $350-400K on his 2016 form looked like good value for money. The club were in their rights not to register the contract considering it was still not formalised after he injured his neck, but followed through on it out of goodwill. The Brad Takairangi contract still lingered in the minds of many NRL players. Had we not gone through with McQueen's, it would have looked VERY bad on us, and would have made future signings even more difficult.

For those who have forgotten what happened with Brad Takairangi, he had agreed to terms when Michael Potter was our coach. Potter was sacked. Takairangi believed everything was still good to go. He packed up his life on the Gold Coast and moved to Sydney. He got here, Taylor was the new coach, and we basically said "we don't have anything for you here". I heard he and his girlfriend had to sleep in their car on their first night in Sydney.. This story went around NRL player circles and did not go down well. I believe the fallout from this incident is only just beginning to phase out of the NRL community.

As many have echoed here, the circumstances surrounding Chris McQueen's contract were not his fault. He deserves a certain amount of respect and I'm glad both he and fans are reciprocating. Also, shout out to Chris for calling out Ryan Matterson when our 2019 season ended.

He deserves a bit of credit imo. A lot of players earning the money he was on would have kicked up a stink, but he carried himself like a professional. No debating he turned out to be a bad signing, but keep in mind, at the time we signed him, before he did his neck, he was a significant upgrade on what we had. It’s easy with hindsight to look back on it and say it was terrible, but at the time, it was reasonable.

Took up some cap space, but nothing compared to other under performing players.
Wasn’t good,wasn’t bad,a nothing signing really.
Well done Chris for maximising his playing career.its a short one, gotta do what you can.
Your body is going to remind you for the rest of your life how tough professional rugby league is 🌝

Can i lament

What is there to lament in the McQueen getting the flick thread? The guy had shown some professionalism on his departure which is appreciated but as a 10 game player for the Wests Tigers his departure is overdue.

Huddersfield bring in former England international on three-month trial

Huddersfield have signed veteran NRL back-rower Chris McQueen on a three-month trial following his release from Wests Tigers.

The 33-year-old was contracted to the end of the season but will now take up a deal with the depleted Giants in a bid to help resolve their injury crisis.

McQueen has played 164 NRL games combined for South Sydney, Gold Coast and most recently Wests Tigers.
He was part of the Rabbitohs team that won the 2014 Premiership and has been capped six times by the Queensland Maroons.

McQueen was surprisingly picked by Wayne Bennett to play for England in 2017, qualifying through his father, coming off the bench in the 30-10 mid-season Test win over Samoa in Sydney.

Since signing for Wests Tigers in 2018, McQueen has made only 10 NRL appearances and just one in 2020.

Speaking on the trial, Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis told the club’s website: “The injury scenario is quite alarming and has caused concern to everyone thus when we heard that Chris was looking for an opportunity we jumped at the chance. “His record speaks for itself and the agreement we have is simply to the end of the year to enable him to showcase his undoubted abilities to us and the Super League as a whole.

“He is keen to stay in the UK longer but at this stage given so many issues that we are all aware of around the game the three month trial period seems a perfect fit for everyone.

“He arrived into the UK today will watch our game live at Headingley subject to a few clearances being met but the aim is for him to be available for squad selection the week after. We should also thank the Wests Tigers club for their assistance in allowing Chris to come across and leave them early to pursue his aim of a permanent Super League contract.”

The most interesting part is that it’s a three month trial. Wish we could do that here.

For a country that is well behind us on the field they are ahead in a few aspects of administration
