Hope no horses die this year.
Anthony Van Dyck died
Its sad.... it really is, though stopping racing because of it also isnt the answer.
The vegetarian catch cry is "eating meat is cruelty". In some cases it is, though if the whole world went vegan/vegetarian, domesticated cattle and sheep would become almost extinct within a decade, millions if not billions of lives would never come into existence each yr, to for the most part live a decent life until they meet the fork.
Same as the pitbull, I dont endorse dog fighting, but the strict rules of the sport say if a dog turns on either an owner or referee inside the ring it was to be destroyed. While dog fighting was in its prime ( i know how poor a statement that is), culling of unstable animals had the gene pool as extremely human friendly, now the backyard hardman hero has its hands on the breed, we have violence machines bred for looks over purpose, with disregard for temperament. Similar sentiment with Greyhounds, they dont work, they for the best part disappear.
Domesticated horses, they take up alot of resources. If they dont work, I doubt they exist in any real numbers. Domesticated horses die in any number of pursuits when at work.
Dwyer, Tuiaki, McKinnon and the litany of other career ending injuries havent urged Rugby League to be stopped. The difference is the perseverance rehabititation wise when comparing a human being with a horse.
I didnt even bet on the race, i barely ever punt on any form of racing... but that horse that passed today would have lived a better life than almost any other horse on the planet. I just fear the repercussions of knee jerk reactions to these sorts of events, and the reality of what could come to be of bleeding hearts ending and industry that would also end a gene pool.
