Merge with Parra?

Inner West Tiger Eelpies

Really rolls off tongue. Slippery like an eel.

Or how about we just form a Western super entity with the Dogs and Panthers too.

Cronulla Tigers?

Should be horse whipped for making such a suggestion.

Go to the corner and hang your head in shame for that one Milkster

Anyway Cronulla are just 1 year away from celebrating 50 seasons and still SFA, sure the Sharks are looking forward to that

No offence to the Wests side but as long as we are called tigers- I'm happy.

That would truly be the final nail in an already set coffin in my support of the NRL. The Tigers for all their faults still keep me checking but if that is taken away from me then bye bye league.

Firstly I don't see how this is a positive thread and I had to check the calendar to see it wasn't April 1!

After years of our own board infighting we would consider merging with another dis functional board? Again giving up our identity when the going gets tough. We have a new board with a vision to see us implement the change we are after.

If it is for immediate onfield success then the jury is out on that. Their record is no better than ours although a combined team would appear stronger on paper.

I am hardly a fan of the Wests side of the merger but this idea seems to ignore them? Changing the name to Western when this was rejected by them 16 years ago despite Balmain voting for it (for all that aren't aware Balmain voted for name to be Western Tigers but this was changed to Wests Tigers in the board negotiations). Playing at parramatta stadium ignores the Campbelltown region?

Also history shows that balmain fans didn't like playing at parramatta with the Sydney Tigers debacle. They flocked to Leichhardt when they returned.

I have heard the too many teams in Sydney line for at least 25 years yet they still survive. Sure we would like more success but at the expense of giving up our identity again I am not in favour.

Dysfunction of both boards would be drastically improved by a strong fan based independent representation. Our current NRL appointed directors would take these spots initially.

Wests would get the upside of having half a club again rather than the ever increasing bill of a whole club (as of next year). Do they really want to try go it alone? Initially they had two other leagues clubs supporting them. If they do, yippe - triple their current contribution at least, stop pretending and let's be on our way!

You point on too many Sydney teams surviving 25 years… Really is surviving ok? You choice of words is apt. Parra, Tiges, Sharks, Penrith - all 'surviving'. Perhaps the better term could be cattle clubs. We are just meat in other teams premierships. Sometimes one of us has a bull run of a year... Sometimes

I do not miss our old identify for a single day. It would take only more consistent success and we would be sorted again.

Why would success occur: great roster and big name coach.

Why success mid term: best juniors perhaps behind Broncos

Why the hell would you merge with Parra when you could merge with Penrith who will have a centre of excellence up and running ??

I would prefer we die than merge again anyway

I'm just over the stupidity of officialdom from the top all the way to juniors to be honest

Why pick a mong head like parra for this hypothetical threesome? why not one of the glamours?

Surely as a couple (balmain, wests) we can do better. Lets aim higher, the night is young and we aren't that drunk yet.

Obviously with Balmain going bust first the board and Bailey was the problem now this.

A bankrupt order pushing the Wests brand out.

Obviously the previous board was not an issue because look now?

Balmain boys your lucky to be on board atm. LO offers nothing except losses and the halves are still reserve graders.

Please mate!

I was glad as a Balmain supporter that we chose western suburbs to join with at the time, and I'm still glad about that fact.

However if the NRL was serious about the long term success of their plan to reduce the number of Sydney teams they would have insisted that Balmain merge with Parra, and Wests merge with Penrith.

Would have solved alot of issues at the outset.

That plan wasn't around in 99…and wouldn't have been fair on parra or Penrith both who.managed to meet criteria

I love how everyone on this forum comes up with great ideas to merge with parra or cronulla or penrith and play out of parramatta, pert, rockhampton all to get some stability, one ground and long term viability. Yet not one person has put forward the obvious one being the south west of sydney. The hatred of all things Wests amazes me.

Crap stadium and only minority of our fans live there.

But the current board would not be independent. They would be from the Wests Tigers side of the merger despite being nrl appointed. On that basis how do they qualify as fan based representation?
Irrespective, of that nrl appointed members should not be a requirement on a functional board.

So Wests get half a club on the basis that Balmain is defunct. Why would they want a name change and venue change?

Of course the Sydney teams are surviving. They are still here and seven of them have one premierships in the past 12 years and an eighth was beaten by a team that was found guilty of cheating.

In terms of the coach well who knows. It is no guarantee of success (Bennett at Knights) and I can't imagine a successful coach such as Bellamy coming to a newly merged club.

Anyway, I can't see it happening irrespective of my positive or negative thoughts.
