Our problem is coaching and recruitment I’d be having a good look at Flanagan if Madge fails this year.

No thank you

It’s frustrating to watch other teams go on a spending spree over the offseason and turn things around in one year. I feel like we’ve been going around in circles trying to do the same thing for the last 10 years.

Not meaning to be a smart arse but which teams are you talking about, who turn it around in one year?

I'd borderline quit the club. If Flanagan became coach and we signed Mitchell Moses back, I'd definitely quit the club. Two least favourite NRL human beings.

Madge has proven to be a divisive coach in every job he’s had. You either love him or hate him.

Right now the boys look rattled and I don’t think Madge has any of them on his side.

He also hasn’t proven to be able to adjust the game plan when the going gets tough like Bellyache and Robbo can.

If we roll into round 8 with less than 4 wins, I can see the axe falling.

I believe he is the right man, we need to back him. How many times are we going to hire new coaches when clearly we got a DEAD team?!?. Who you have to replace him right now?

I honestly don't know that there is a coach out there that can turn this club around.

Failure and mediocrity seems to be a part of our fabric and I don't know who can change it, let alone how they would do it.

Each year I approach the season with optimism, this is the year the drought ends. And after our offseason recruiting drive the forum shared that optimism. I didn't expect us to beat the Raiders or the Roosters, but I genuinely didn't expect to see them give up so early in the year.

I feel sorry for Madge. He sees the bigger picture and what is wrong with the club, but for whatever reason he can't get the group to bring that to fruition on the field. In saying that neither could Cleary, Taylor, Potter or even Sheens consistently.

It's frustrating to watch other teams go on a spending spree over the offseason and turn things around in one year. I feel like we've been going around in circles trying to do the same thing for the last 10 years.

I don't know what it will take to fix us. Maybe Madge is the man for the job, maybe he isn't. But I don't think sacking him 2 games into a contract extension is smart business.

Actually , you right only because the coaching talent pool these days is pathetic (not player pool ) and I see McGuire as just another Bellamy clone

How do you expect a coaches who are clones of the top coaches to excel with inferior talent to the top sides .. they cannot

You need a coach that has different temperament, different philosophy and skill set to excel at the tigers .

Sheens won comp as was his own man
I see hoolbrook at titans , had varied Australian experience and did his own thing in England and you could see the titans improve as the season went on last year .

Holbrook was just interviewed on NRL 360. If things don’t work out with Madge that the style we need. Honestly though who found a guy like that, that thinks like that? Watching the Building Titans it appears it was Steve Mitchell and he even called one of his former players from the cowboys who was playing in the ESL under Holbrook and asked him his opinion of the coach. ‘Lachlan Coote’ BTW.

I’m not a Maguire fan never have been happy for him to go but it will achieve nothing to get rid of him right now. Need to wait till end of season I just can’t understand the rush to extend his contract

They extended him because he is TRYING to change the horrible culture that has infected this club for so long...He has dismantled the boys club and solidified the work ethic within the team...obviously they arent GOOD ENOUGH to play in the big arena and cant handle the heat...
He also has put the young players pathway back into the interest of the club...we need juniors coming through our system regularly and Madge has also been involved in recruiting young talent for us...
A few bad days and results are going to happen and I have said many times before, when posting on the forum and having a conversation on a particular topic "you have to keep personal dislike for that person out of the conversation"the club extended him for a reason,we have to have confidence in their decision as we dont have the opportunity to sit in the front office and over hear the conversations ...

if you can get any guidance from the politics, the maximum declared support is just before the takeover.

I can’t deny Madge’s good intentions, however his coaching process isn’t working and hasn’t over the last couple of years.

Voted no, mainly because WT have already extended McGuire's tenure and I would be going against that which I stated in the Bellamy thread with that reasoning.

That said, I also didn’t want him extended until at least a little into the season if warranted and am from the school that a coach needs to work to the strengths of his players more than bending them to fit into one's style when forming a team.

The difference when he relented to let Liddle play his natural game on Sunday a case in point for mine and plain to see as well. Also believe Maguire should have learnt similarly in relation to Brooks on the back of adjustments he made last year. Whilst I want Luke to stay, I would rather see him prosper under another coach and it looks like he will have to leave to do so.

This is a dumb thread. He just signed a contract, the club clearly believes in him, he's going no where this season. Let's wait and see how we are going 3/4 through the season, not after two weeks.

He hasnt had much to coach really since he came...most were other coaches players, got heaps of injuries to key personel, had a halfback who had several coaches and systems to go through....and now he is trying to get this lot to be competative...yeah but lets sack him because thats what we do at the WTs its in our blood....
The Good Lord would put himself in a straight jacket trying to get these blokes to understand the simple things...

Maybe in your opinion but the Tigers should have considered Demetriou when we had a chance in 2018.

Old boy that rose threw the ranks and gets our club.

Madge doesn’t.

We have just played two top four teams and predictably we got well beaten. The gap now between the top few teams and bottom 8 teams is massive and getting nearly impossible to bridge.
You would only replace Madge if there was a significantly better candidate willing to take on the role.

It’s now all about hard work and hope like hell a few of our young kids turn out to be gems and loyal ones at that and not jump ship when they hit the big time.

I say Madge will walk if this season goes pear shape big time. Anyway time will tell

Like I've always said Madge might not win us a premiership but he will clear out the rubbish at least. Really weren't many coaches available at the time, Bennett maybe but he said he would only do it for 2020... then ended up swapping to bunnies in 2019 anyway.
