The whole Moltzen things is pretty funny, 2011 before doing his knee people loved him and were willing to rush him back into the top grade for the final series, 2012 rolls around and except for a couple of games he struggled, bearing in mind he was coming off a knee reco job. Durring 2012 he was probably Benji's most prominent target as the rest of the backline looked slow with the exception of Koro late in the season . Now he is the new Fitzy on the forum.

Iam not defending him and I would struggle to find a starting spot for him in 2013 if Teddy come back strong, but he isnt the total dud people make him out to be and when his confidence is up he can be a handy player. Iam sure with injuries we will see lots of Tim in the top grade

He is a total dud with a capital DUD.

Full strength he cannot make the 17\. Tedesco is a better fullback, miller is a better halfback, fulton/ayshford/sironen are better utility players

I don't understand how everyone is saying that Tedesco is the man for fullback! He got injured in the first game, I am sure that he has talent and is possibly the best option we have but I would like to see him play a few games in first grade before I make up my mind. It is no secret that I quite like Tim Moltzen but I am the first to admit that he didn't set the world on fire last year and I think that if you have a couple of people trying out for the same position then that is a great thing for the Tigers. I am happy with Tedesco getting the fullback job if he deserves to have it.

That's what i found so frustrating this year that some players were playing like crap yet were never dropped. IMO Koro probably wouldn't of got his shot if Lote didn't get injured,I get the vibe from listening and reading Potter's comments that he will be picking his team on form and not reputation.

Missed 4 games but….top try scorer = Moltzen . Most line breaks = Moltzen
Must be a lot of other duds in the team. :unamused:
Didn't have a good year but has still got a lot of talent.
Personally don't think he should be playing fullback but if we go with Miller and Tedesco we will have the most inexperienced half and fullback(2/3 of our spine) in the NRL by a country mile .
Both are unproven which makes me think Potter may blood them at different times throughout the comp.

Gee I hope so Weststigers4life, when I say that everyone should be put on notice I do mean everyone, even the great Benji Marshall and Robbie Farrah.

Moltzen done his knee in 2010\. People gave the BoTD in 2011 getting back his confidence, in 2012 you really can't still be blaming a knee reco from 2010.

If you're good enough you're old enough. Yes Tedesco and Miller will be a very young combination, but Manly won it with DCE and Foran and remember Benji and Farah were both juniors too in '05\. But they had the class of Scott Prince and Brett Hodgson around them. It's not like Teddy and Miller will be running around with some sub-standard five eight and hooker… IMO it's a perfect mix of youth and experience. The few years they spend now building up their skills will provide a great pathway for life A.F. (after Farah)

Didnt mean to stir up a hornets nest with Moltzen, but I cant see them playing any of the middle to big contract players in reserve grade, so I figure Tim will get a run in the 17\. Iam also willing to disregard 2012 form and reserve my judgement till July 2013.

What I want to see in 2013 is grunt and speed, because with Farah,Marshall and Anasta we have the skill to create a lot of chances

Back to Miller, I saw Ben Barba actually dominate the u20 comp and when he got his chance in the top grade he struggled for the first 12 months. I have not see Miller actually dominate in the u20 comp on a week to week thing. So it will be interesting if he makes the grade and how long it will take. With the prospect of a very strong combined reserve grade maybe he will need some time their playing against men

The fact that moltz is even being talked about as an option is a concern

Potter will eventually watch the videos from 2012

Then he will publically apologize to all Wests Tigers supporters for even considering at putting Moltzen at 7 (and probably 1)

Then normality will be assured

Miller may not have the flare and attacking brilliance that Barba had, nor the destructive running that guys like Fifita had, but the way he controlled the games and the structure he brought to the team was sheer quality. Occasionally he would pull out a freakish thing like a cut out pass to the wing (see this year's finals series), but the way in which he was able to guide the team around, get them to the fifth, then put pressure on with his kicks is not to be disregarded. IMO it's exactly what we need in first grade and he would complement Farah and Benji perfectly.

Pretty sensible assessment Super. I used to think (when he was playing for Balmain) that I liked Moltz, and he has done some impressive things in firsts. Unfortunately they are few and far between and there has been a lot of rubbish in between.

And in relation to Miller, I do not think he will play half for much of the season. Despite the obvious issues with Anasta playing there, this is what I expect will eventually happen.

He's hardly going to say "Moltzen is a total clown who's not fit to mow the lawn at the club. I don't rate him and I'll be consulting the WT forum for advice on what to do to him!"

He's been there a week and seems a sensible sort of coach. I'm confident he'll pick the best team that can be chosen. He wouldn't be my first pick at HB (or anywhere based on his 2012 form) but as a 2nd or 3rd choice half he's probably a good filler compared to other clubs. He was pretty good at the tail end of 2011 so maybe with a new coach he can get some confidence back.

Yoss it's called sarcasm Give it a go sometime , it can be fun

Potter probably watched half of our games before he did his first interview and the rest before his 2nd interview

I agree. He was our top try scorer in 2012, and the most often to score off a Benji pass. In the game v St George late in the season he scored off a Benji inside pass that most players would have either run past or dropped. To go into games without him playing somewhere would be taking a risk we can't afford.

All this article actually says is that Potter is looking at Benji at 6 and either Miller or Anasta at 7\. If Anasta goes 7, then Fulton or Blair are 13\. If Miller goes 7, Anasta might go 13\. Might. And, Potter described Miller as 'handy', not great praise.

So, what do you all think? What would be the better combination at the start of the season?

I'm going for Braith, Benji, Liam. (I am totally opposed to any ideas that leave Fulton out of the run-on side.)

I prefer Blair at Lock and Marshall at 5/8\. We have tried for 6 years to find Benji a Halfback who can control a game, so if that means playing Braith at 7 I'd accept it. Ironically, he will bring some similarity to the 7 jumper that Sheens tried to do with John Morris, but Braith has a far higher skill set and flair… Previous history shows us if we put a kid between Robbie & Marshall, they simply have no choice but to be a link. Braith has the experience to be more/different.

Miller could be best suited to come off the bench, but if you had to choose between Miller or Sironen for the bench, I'd go with Sirro.
