Moltzen Staying Or Going

No one likes what Lui has alledged to have done but I don't think punting Lui is a good enough reason to lower your standards and try to retain someone you were previously happy to let go.

Of course it is a knee jerk reaction to the Lui issue.

If Lui didn't alledgedly muck up, Moltzen would already have his Dragons socks in the bottom drawer.

That is simply untrue.

On what basis?

99.99% of the time when you sign a contract with another club, you have committed to join them - unless something drastic happens that makes you change your mind.

Why is this any different?

Half investigated news reports, suggestion, innuendo & a whole bunch of long running rumour mongering have made this situation more than it most likely is.

At no point have we heard an official reply from the guys that are going to be able to make the final decision- the NRL. there was a report that it 'seems' the only contract with the NRL is the Tigers one, but has that 'fact' been used as the 'be all & end all' of the discussion? Has the NRL said- "that's it- you're a Tiger" because of it? Maybe if the reporters, you know, 'investigated' the story & got the NRL's version of the situation, we'd know more?

Do we know that Moltzen wants to stay? Or that Benji is upset Moltzen's leaving? Or that Lui is done as a Tiger? Or are we working this 'fact' off because some faceless poster said so? Is there an official Tim Moltzen "I want to stay with the Tigers" comment anywhere? Has Tim Sheens ever officially said that Moltzen is wanted back OR is excess to need? Or did we just assume this based on rumours?

In the end, as far as I can tell, the 'truth' of it is- there is a contract dispute- and these happen in the NRL every year. Chances are- it'll all be sorted out pretty easily once the Dragons, Tigers & NRL sit down & go over it.

It's really hard to see what the alternative explanation is?

Why is it embarrassing? Our CEO is looking after OUR interests.

Also, I don't think this is a knee jerk reaction to the Lui issue, I think Tim has approached the club and asked if there is still the possibility of him staying a Tiger, the club who now have more room under the cap have said there is and is protecting a club asset.

You are embarrassed because you have insinuated quite alot re Lui and Carney…

Its not true because we all heard about Moltzen staying weeks before the Lui incident. The mix up earlier in the year with Saints saying they signed him wasnt resolved. Both clubs agreed to settle it at seasons end thats why it all came out straight after our loss which just so happened to coincide with the Lui incident. Maybe, just maybe the Tigers are feeling more inclined now to keep Moltz due to Lui, but they were looking at it before hand. So Moltzen wouldnt have his saints socks in his draw if Lui was a good boy.

Haha mix up? Tim Moltzen signed a contract with the St George Dragons - there is no mix-up in that - the mockery that has taken place in relation to signing releases would have been a simple formality at the end of the day, until Lui threw a spanner in the works.

Of course Moltzen has always wanted to stay, with the Benji bromance and all. However he was under pressure to perform in the fullback spot and he knew that Lui was the number 1 halfback, so he made a career decision to move on.

I don't know how people can honestly say that there is no correlation between the Lui incident and Moltzen staying at the Tigers. There is no denying that Moltzen made a decision to change clubs, but now that he has a sniff of better opportunity at the Tigers - he wants to change his mind.

Don't tell me this is all based around the fact that if Lui gets sacked, Moltzen has halfback all sown up? because Moltzen has no future at the tigers in the 7 jumper

No that is not what I said.

No Lui = more cap space and more opportunity for Moltzen. Cap space and opportunity that a couple of months ago wasn't available.

Edit: as if he want be one of the first to get a crack at the 7 though…

Moltzen freely told patrons in the Sackville Hotel the afternoon following the WTs last game and obviously therefore before Lui was charged that he did not want to leave the WTs.

I am one of several people that he said that to.

The correlation between Lui is most likely what gave moltz a sniff at staying. We were at the limit I believe. But Lui more then likely going to be shown the door and Dwyer not playing (his contract will be exempt) moltz asked the Qs.

Fact is he never wanted to go
Fact is we never gave saints final approval
Fact is he wants to stay.

Tigers are exploring what can be done to make it happen. And nothing will be done I would say untill Moltz returns from Vegas.

I'm interested for anyone to point me to a credible source or show me somewhere that Tim is quoted directly as wanting to go or stay.

I have heard NOTHING from him.

As for those that say he signed a contract with the Dragons and should honor that, think about this. HE ALREADY HAD A CONTRACT FOR NEXT YEAR WITH THE TIGERS, so why does the Dragons contract take precedence? His contract with the Dragons or any other team means stuff all, because it was not accompanied by a release from one that was already in existence!

That will teach St George or anyone else to shoot their mouth off before a PROPER contract is in place.

Did anyone notice the Tigers holding off on Blair for months and months? They could have announced it way earlier, but they are smart and professional and waited until it was absolutely and positively official, THEN ANNOUNCED IT!!!!…......unlike the Dragons!

Thanks Insane. Something I had not seen before so I appreciate you in enlightening me.

Interesting reading indeed. I wonder what his thoughts are now if he was quoted.

Swordy I reckon it would depend whether he thought he was talking or a Saints supporter or a Tigers supporter It is almost as if he is trying to keep all sides happy
