Moltzen's fullback hopes given a boost

So if the papers are to be believed, and Benji is unhappy that his BFF Moltzen is being shopped around, is Benji going to hold our club ransom again like he did with Sheens?

If true Benji will have to suck it up.

Lui is playing Moltzen back into halfback already - Marshall won't have to worry

As long as Lui is fit Moltzen will never play halfback, so get used to it.

Yeah doesnt sheens see him as a fullback?

But while mckinnon is there safe as anything at the back i cant see that happening either.

Even if he is fit and playing absolutely hopeless?
Is he getting preferential treatment?

Only problem I have with Moltzen is that he is, as of right now, not the #1 choice at Halfback, 5/8 or Fullback- the 3 spots he can play well.

Using him at centre is almost wasting a position & player.

For mine, Moltzen WAS the #1 halfback at the club. Then he got shifted to fullback & Lui came in. Lui struggled early, but now I see him being a much bigger factor in each game & might finally prove a good foil to both Benji & Farah.

Moltzen as a Fullback was always a 'less than perfect' position match- simply because he is NOT good at tacking kicks under pressure. His defence is ok (without being good) & his positional play is fine. In attack Moltzen really excels given space & freedom. But attack is, alas, only half the game. McKinnon is playing MUCh better this year & is really securing that Fullback position as his own. Strong in both attack & defence, while pretty safe under pressure with the ball in the air- hard to knock McKinnon this season.

So Moltzen finds himself warming the centre position until Lawrence comes back. But in the centres he doesn't have the room to play like he does at fullback, doesn't have the responsibility of providing a foil to Farah/Marshall he had at halfback, his front on defence (which is ok) is exploited by bigger, stronger men against him & he's still a liability with the ball in the air.

In other words- Moltzen isn't a First Grade Centre.

And with Lui, Mrshall & McKinnon ahead of him in his 3 best positions, is Moltzen's wage vs the Salary Cap prohibitive?

He's a good player without a position for this club. It's probably in both the club (financially) & Moltzen's (career opportunity) best interest if they part after this season.

Totally agree with your comments. Moltzen also needs to look after himself and his earning capacity as you only have a short time in the game and he has already had a major injury. Good luck to Tim.

If getting picked simply because he is a superior player than Moltzen in all areas is "preferential treatment" then yes, he is.

geez moltzen gets hammered in here was a good player before injury dont forget WESTS TIGERS supporters he had a full knee reco and hasnt been playing long give him a break hes playing out of position and could you blame him if he goes to another club? after the hammering he gets in here im one of the few who would rather keep him he will get his confidence back soon enough ….....

I recall Benji getting some bad wraps early on after is 4th shoulder sergury.

If he has one really good game, he will be back.

Lets give Moltz time.

agreed finally someone with a bit of patience go back and watch moltzen before the operation he was pretty good….give him time agree with (spartan117)

I think people are happy to give him time, just not in first grade. He needs time in NSW cup to get his fitness / confidence up, then should return from the bench for the Tigers.

If he did that originally he would probably be in a much better position now.

Unfortunately Sheens has thrown him in the deep end and he is struggling to find his form.

It doesn't help that everyone around him is also playing poorly.

You must have been watching a different game to everyone else the last two weeks hybrid - Lui has been atrocious
In fact he's only had one decent game all year.
Everyone says give him time , he's young - well times up .
Moltzen doesn't contest one bomb and gets vilified forever!
Even if Moltzen wasn't there I'd much rather have Miller at half than a bumbling ,dropsy, air grabbing ,speedbump Lui.

Again, if you think Moltzen is a superior halfback than Lui you are clearly watching a different game.

Every week you're playing the same record, Lui's crap, can't tackle, is a speedbump while at the same time calling for Moltzen to play half. Give it a rest. Lui is ahead of Moltzen for good reason, he is a better player and more importantly a player with far more strings to his bow than Moltzen.

Moltzen is a glorified ball running five-eighth, nothing more, nothing less. Doesn't have a kicking game, is not creative, has little variety in his game, does not threaten the line or organise like a good halfback should.

I rate lui im not sure who is saying moltzens a superior halfback to lui? but i think moltzen has got good hands and hes faster than lui…..if he hadnt got injured last year who knows he might be halfback not rob? the thing is i rate both how many games have the tigers won with moltzen at halback?

and this video proves it:

http://youtu.be/cJi3yvg4QH0

People here seem to have very short memories
Moltz is champion player who should be named at halfback

He has so much potential..honestly if he can get back to that form I'll take him over Robert Lui..moltz was definitely one of my favorite players in 09..

hybrid you talk about the attributes a good half should possess and then list all the things Lui doesn't do.
He doesn't direct the team around the park ,can't tackle , makes consistent bumbling errors and has . at best , an inconsistent kicking game.
What strings are in his bow that I've been missing?
I haven't been watching any different games than you -the last 2 weeks he has been close to the worst player on the field for either team.
Instead of putting it on Moltzen all the time it's time to get rid of the REAL weak link.
And I'm not always calling for Moltzen to play half ( although I think he should ) - if you read my posts I'd be happy for Miller to be in front of Lui as well .
Lui is a liability - it's tough to win a comp without a good half and our current No 7 has been the worst in the NRL two weeks running….but don't let the facts get in the way of bagging Moltzen. :deadhorse:
