I genuinely dont get the love of some here for Momers. I dont dislike him and I think he is a solid first grade player in the mold of Shane Elford but Ive never seen him do anything impressive.

His fans here regularly quote his try scoring strike rate, but they are all catch and crash tries, I cant remember him beating a player.

He is a good solid player but I think he has shown enough to know that he is VERY consistent, because what you see is what you get. This IS his ceiling.

BJ & JTJ may not be consistent but their ceiling is MUCH higher than Momers. Talau looks raw but I think he has natural talents (mostly size) that Momers doesnt have .

IMO I'd put Momo on a par with Talau.....and we have Talau.

I wouldnt be upset if we traded him for a Laurie for example, but he does have enough that he would be one of those players I watch nervously in another clubs colours wondering if we let one get away.

I acknowledge an intercept try is long range, but how many players did he beat?

I know you are more about stats and how many players he beat etc etc to score his tries, however,in my honest opinion,it doesnt matter how he scored them, the points were on the board and another small point I will make,he at least was in the position to score the try or he was 100 percent trying his guts out for the club,he may not be the fastest or suitable player most want but he is footy smart and a trier everytime he pulls on our jumper...

And the points weren't on the board when he missed the relatively easy shot at goal v the Dogs

Probably cost us Top 8

To be honest, he should never have been taking that kick. It was obvious he was crumbling under the pressure. One of our senior players should have taken control in that situation.

He was visibly distressed after missing that kick. I remember it vividly

He was visibly distressed before he kicked the ball, someone should have taken it off him.

What is the point of having a goal kicker if when its hard or it counts someone else has to take the shot?

That's the issue, I don't think he is a kicker.

I mean if you literally watched any of his 2019 tries like ive posted video clips numerous times in this thread you would see that barely any are “catch and crash” like you said

But his haters love to ignore that of course

No worries, post them up again

I can’t be bothered proving obvious trolls wrong.

Obvious trolls? I said he is a good solid player, hardly trolling. You said you had proof I was wrong and that most of his tries were not short range.

Hap mate, the guy hated himself more than anyone in the world after that miss, the guy gives his all and to bring that missed goal up when he was under enormous pressure really shows how narrow minded some people are..go back over the many, many years of our game and show me a player that hasnt missed an important goal or dropped the ball over the line and then we can crucify the guy...and in my opinion Hap if he did get it and we got in the 8 by the skin of our teeth, who is to say we wouldnt have been beaten by along way the first semi...its all hypothetical now and should be forgotten and move on...

Problem is that does even more harm not having your teammates trust in you ...far easier addressing the missed kick than the lack of trust

Pressure can do crazy things ...I can distinctly remember a goal kicker miss a shot to lose a premiership from virtually in front in the age group below and it set off his epilepsy and he had a seizure ..and he hadn't had a seizure in over 12 months his Mum said

Appreciate the response but the gist of my comment is that players obviously aren’t onboard with the club’s plans with them. (Dont they direct their managers?)
I only applied the mistreatment and undervalued comments as in the background the club has been using the players as collateral (in attempt) for trades over the last year or so. This doesn’t strike me one bit as having an appreciation and seeing the value for/in them.

Is it realistic to expect that a player will be onboard with the club signing someone in front of them in the pecking order? Especially with Momorovski, his initial contract was supposed to end 2020 and was extended to 2021 as part of the loan deal - clearly he was ok to sign the new deal at the time.

The only thing that has changed since then is James Roberts.

I fail to see any difference for Storm and Harry Grant, where Grant has made it very public that he has the contracted option of getting a release should Cameron Smith not retire. Similarly Storm agreeing to let Brandon Smith negotiate for 2022. In both cases Grant and Smith are not onboard with the idea of another footballer being player at hooker in front of them for 2021/2022. And this is potentially worse, given Momorovski has not reached anything like the first grade or representative peak of Grant or The Cheese.

WRT your comments on players being used as collateral in trades, I don't believe that's ever been publicly confirmed for any footballer we have on roster. The talk of a Momorovski trade is only rumour, and it may in fact be that Momorovski himself is in favour of a potential trade to Penrith. We have no idea of the conditions under which Momorovski joined Melbourne, and I reiterate that he extended his deal with the Tigers before playing for the Storm.

S2B is correct, Momers does a lot of work with the ball in many of his tries. Honestly, to the point that I didn't think someone with his generally modest athleticism (i.e. not overly fast or powerful) could finish so well.

I still think Momers is overall an average first grader - will do a job without being much of a threat, but if anything his finishing in traffic has been his standout ability.

No I agree with this totally, but finishing in traffic is not my idea of a centres role to beat a man.

I dont hate Momers. If Madge put him at centre, I wouldnt be worried and I ***wouldnt*** be excited. Its time for some excitement.

EDIT: WOAH, I just noticed I had a spelling error and this post read WAY differently than I had intended

Only one of us is not backing up his words.

You said that most of his tries he barely beat one player...fairly inaccurate, watch the tries from the dogs game onwards and you’ll be pleasantly surprised

I dont have time to trawl through videos, Im relying on my memory of his play. You are welcome to post them up.

There is a difference between crashing through a flat defence 5 -10m out and actually beating a player.

Happy to post them tomorrow mate just been a long day and way too buggered right now lol.

I get he’s not a super star pr game breaker but man he was definitely more than a solid contributor for us . Some people have short memories I feel

He is a good footballer, we just have better.

It's been a long time since I have seen one of our centres beat his opposite man one on one to set up a try, it really is a lost art in the game. I am hoping Roberts can use his speed to do it this year.

I reckon that’s the best way to put it, but those “better” footballers have a knack of playing up

I said about a month ago that we need the gambles we made to pay off and we are a chance for the 8. The good thing though is that these are all low risk gambles with high upsides if they pay off.

At least we aren't where we have been in the past where we overpaid on the gambles like an addict chasing his losses.

This will probably end up the same as the Bradley/Simpkins swap. Both guys weren't in future plans and the clubs just decided to swap
Them a year early

The way I see it is Momers isn't gonna be here after this year and Laurie is a long term project so it benefits us to make the swap happen

The whole article is a push to get Penrith (or bulldogs) to give us compensation for him.
