Moses Suli

Agree with Watto,

The Tigers is a viable option for players now, A place that decent established players and youngsters see a better that decent future.

For mine - the next three years could be good if we can back our for stars and build a team around them.

We're yet to lose anyone who we have wanted to keep. You could argue JAC, but we only lost him because we showed no initial interest to keep him, and by the time we did it was too late. That's what you want from your club.

Lets see where we are in 6 months. We haven't re-signed any of our big guns yet and honestly most players we have signed probably weren't flush wish options. Suli obviously had a few options and we had to pay pretty big dollars to keep him.

We are at that point where it seems like things may be on the improve but we have to give it time to see results. If we lose 2 of our big guns then the sky will be falling again.

Crazy that the market for a 2 NYC game 18 year old is set this high. Fingers crossed he lives up to the hype, as these are the kind of contracts that have held us back in the past (and present).

Benji went ok.

My read of the press release on Suli is that he will earn "up to $1.3M" over the 4 years including the upgrade for this year. I am assuming that means if he achieves all incentives and the targets set. So it may well be $250 -$300K per year, plus the upgrade for 2017, plus possible incentives per year - add this all together to get to a possible $1.3M. When you look at it in this way it isn't crazy at all as long as you have some faith in the club's ability to recognise talent.

As for the suggestion about Brooks being on the outer - I get that impression as well, and agree with those who point to some subtle hints such as the way they are talking up JLJ, Brooks selection in 9's, all the limelight on Moses - I sense he is out of favour and wouldn't be surprised if he goes elsewhere or even has already been earmarked as the one they are willing to let go.

On another impression I am getting - doesn't Kev look like he has been working hard to earn his place! Hope to see him really step up and get the feeling he just might!

We're no chance of holding onto young players unless we can enjoy some sustained success. If only one other club was after Suli you could reason that they may be foxing to drive his price up so they can snare one of the big four off contract, but the fact that Bellamy and Stuart were both after him suggests that he is a well sought after talent and could well be the real deal.

The dollars are rude for a kid with a couple of youth cup games and no state or NRL experience. But prodigious kids will command that money now, it's just the nature of the beast. Hopefully he comes along well and helps the club enjoy the sustained success mentioned earlier. Players want to go to clubs that will regularly feature in the finals and will likely taste premiership success. Without a TPA portfolio like Brisbane, Easts or Canterbury, this is our only option to lure proven talent from other clubs, as we will not be always able to rely on moneyball signings and our junior nursery.

Please refresh my memory. Who were the players signed to this type of contract in the past "that have held us back in the past (and present) and where are they now?

It's not outrageous money at all. It's market rates.

If 10 NRL clubs were chasing him, all offering him around a million bucks for 3 years, what are we supposed to turn around and say no, stay loyal and take our 100k offer! I don't have the specific details around which clubs were/weren't after him but i believe all Sydney clubs had a crack, as well as the Storm and Canberra. They all see enough in him to think he's the next Lote etc and that's he worth a shot.

The fact is we have little depth in the outside backs and most of our depth players (and many of our starting backs) are quite small. Here we have a big, strong, fast and mature freak on our hands. Exactly what we need and what we need to take a gamble on.

Imagine the outcry if the most talented junior we've produced in years left and became a star at another club, and in a position we are totally desperate in.

It is a risk as he's just a kid, but over 4 years, and with incentives built in it's not as big a risk as some make out it is. For the chance of having the next Tuqiri, Inglis or Folau that's a chance we have to take. Those players don't join us in their prime. We have to create them ourselves, and for the first time in a long while, we have.

He may not go on to become a household name like those listed above, but i'd even settle for a BJ Leiliua type player as being a successful outlay.

I have a good feeling about this… Not so much Suli, but that our club looks to be in a sounder financial position and knew it had to splash some cash to secure the kid.

This is what happens when you have a boardroom with business people, who have the knowledge to run a successful business.
Not just ex footballers, who slink their way onto football boards because of contracts.

Benji went ok.

I can remember a few of us hyping a certain fullback who'd only played 5 NYC games and saying he should start as the NRL fullback the next season

Probably won't be much more than the NRL average pay after the increase comes through

Doesn't matter if the club has paid overs or unders for this kid….he now has to prove his worth over the next few seasons...

Hope he succeeds.....

Curtis Sironen for one. Hell, we even had the likes of Andrew Vela on pretty decent wages despite him never coming close to FG.

Benji was playing first grade at 17 too.
Hopefully Suli ends up having a similar career (without the ugly split at the end….).

I think the writing is on the wall for Brooks. Being named in the 9's squad and not being included in the leadership group are subtle signs that the club isn't as high on him as they are on his mates.

Definitely agree with you here. Plus they keep mentioning JLJ really standing out in pre season. So very subtle signs that the club has other options if Brooks is over pricing himself. Or it could just be the kick up the bum he needs to have a break out year and reach the potetial we all thought he had after his debut.

Its all about the big four (or big 3 according to most). To me the jury is still out on our management. If they deliver the re signing of in order of importance Tedesco, Moses, woods and brooks then lets organise a fan day for the management team. If we dont re sign them than back to square 1.

I don't understand why Pascoe feels the need to tell everyone what a kid who hasn't played first grade gets signed for. Justin your main job is to re-sign Tedesco don't worry about anyone else. Sign him and the rest will follow.
