Moses Suli

I'm disappointed.
Another young talent "weve built our future around" and let other players leave….only to be let go and immediately signed up by a stronger club.An all too familiar theme.
Id like to think that for once we were ahead of the game and maybe orchestrating his exit to accommodate a major signing(like RTS...?)rather than yet again being self righteous victims of poor player attitude which all clubs are exposed to but generally manage ..see Munster/Storm for example

Interesting timing. Dogs needed a good news story before the board elections I have a feeling they have a new T-Rex. The Tigers handled this really well and offloaded him at the right time. I hope he goes well and utilises his talent at the Dogs but we surely now have 1m+ in cap room. You'd think we have lined up a signing as it's strange to happen this close to a season.

It's funny reading the Kennel. They are all assuming we are either paying his contract or they got him cheap.
A) Pascoe has made it very clear after the Blair and Farah fiascos he isn't paying a cent for any player who isn't at our club.
B) As if a player who could earn close to $900k over the next 24 just by seeing his current contract out would sign anywhere on the cheap.

Heard from a friend of Aaron Woods that tigers are paying a big portion of Suli's wage at the dogs. No figure provided. I am not convinced though I have no doubt this is what they were told.

Confirmed Dib's comments re trying to get the other Moses a deal.

The club keeps banging on about "Club Culture" and I got to say this is the first real test of their commitment to it, and they have followed through. Not something I believe would have happened in the past. My hats off to the decision makers.
In the last few years I have started to get the impression Joining the Tigers was looked at by outside players as an easy buck with minimal commitment (Adam Blair/Braith Anasta anyone?) I think this one decision is a huge shift for us and it seems to have been handled professionally with no press circus in sight.
Well done Tigers, even more excited about this year now.
Suli who?

I doubt we are paying anything going forward.

It sounds like the club has managed him out over the last 3 months.

He may have been in breach of contract and had more then 3 warnings given the clubs efforts detailed above.

[The Tigers] will not pay a cent of his future contract money as part of the release.

This was in the Suli article in league live

Due to the nature of the release, it's understood the Tigers will not be liable for any of Suli's salary under the cap going forward.

I hope that is the case. Just reporting what i was told. Would Aaron really know I guess is the question?

Apparently Aaron Woods is still learning how to spell Bulldogs, so I wouldn't be too concerned with his knowledge on their contract situation.

Suli reveals why he left Tigers to join Bulldogs

Moses Suli has revealed his shock decision to ask for a release from the Wests Tigers to sign a three-year deal with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs was because "it's what's best for my footy career".

The Tigers on Wednesday granted the winger a release, effective immediately, and released a statement which basically questioned his commitment to the club.

Suli's departure to Dogs six months in the making
Suli hit back at any claims he had not been professional with his work ethic and told NRL.com he was aiming to reach his potential at Belmore.

“It was a big call for me, but I thought it was the best for myself and the club. It was really tough for me and I didn’t think it would come to this, but I guess it’s what’s best for my footy career," he said.

“The ankle is going really well. I had surgery, but I have recovered well. I have been given the all-clear and I’m ready to get back on the field."

Suli, who made his debut in the opening round of last year's Telstra Premiership, is expected to link with the Bulldogs as early as this week to begin the contract which will run until the end of 2020.

He said one of the main factors in his decision to become a Bulldog was his close association with the club's recruitment manager, Warren McDonell, who signed him as a precocious schoolboy when he held the same role for the Wests Tigers.

“I have known Warren since I was 15 and he has helped me a lot. I’m willing to go to the Bulldogs and get back to playing the football I know I can," he said.

“I’m excited for the move to Canterbury and I’m prepared to face every challenge that comes my way.”.

The talented 19-year-old, who represented Tonga in the Pacific Test against Fiji last May, stands at 189cm and his playing weight is around 110kg but it is believed he recently tipped the scales around the 125kg mark, which left Wests Tigers officials far from impressed.

In the Wests Tigers statement, CEO Justin Pascoe said it was a difficult decision but he was satisfied it was the right one for the club.

“Moses is an exceptionally talented player. That’s why over the last 12 months our coaching and personal development staff have dedicated so much time and energy in supporting Moses with his challenges, both on and off the field," he said.

I am sure if he’s willing to take responsibility, be a team player and commit to the demands of being a professional athlete he has the potential to have a successful career in rugby league.
Justin Pascoe
“We are working really hard both on and off the field to build something special here at Wests Tigers. That includes building a culture and set of standards that cannot be compromised.

“I am sure if he’s willing to take responsibility, be a team player and commit to the demands of being a professional athlete he has the potential to have a successful career in rugby league.”

Suli's manager, Mario Tartak, and the Wests Tigers have been liaising in recent weeks to resolve the situation.

“While it’s always disappointing to see player part ways with a club, the Wests Tigers have been completely transparent, professional and empathetic throughout this process," Tartak said.

I'd be really disappointed if I wasn't already considering the chance he was another Tuiaki.

Well I wasn't expecting you of all people to put the boot into Tuiaki.

That certainly is below the belt.

He would have been a really great player but for a genuine injury.

Was also hard done by after that.

Not having a go at Tui, Russell. Just saying I think he might have poor Tui's ankles.

All good Masterton - probably misinterpreted.

Suli has been quoted as asking for a release. We will pay nothing to him from this day forward.

I too am very disappointed at this news. Not in what the club has done, but rather by the whole affair. He looked like he was going to be something special.
However, if his attitude was not up to the club's standard then there was no choice.
To let one player slide below the standards is setting a dangerous precedent. It can be like a cancer.
So good on the club for making the tough call.
Every club has had its share of difficulties with young players. Too much money too early, too easily. It takes a special sort of character to be able to cope with it.
I hope Moses gets his 'head' back on and is able to put this behind him and learn from it. It will be interesting to watch what unfolds.

I can't see him getting a run ahead of Josh Morris or WIll Hopoate in the centres, or Brett Morris or Marcelo Montoya on the wing either. The Morris brothers will probably spend plenty of time injured though.

I am very disappointed.

A young player having a bad attitude whilst injured is not entirely surprising.

I wonder whether they could have waited until he had recovered and given him time to assess whether his attitude improved.

Obviously we are not privy to all the details. So, in some ways, we just have to assume the club had good reasons to do what they did

Lets go shopping! Who do you think we can buy? Any rumours?

RTS and Felise Kafusi for 2019.
Sign no one this year and Front load 1m this year for The current squad and use funds for 2020 on Cleary Jr.

It appears from his own mouth….Suli hit back at any claims he had not been professional with his work ethic and told NRL.com he was aiming to reach his potential at Belmore. “It was a big call for me, but I thought it was the best for myself and the club. the old adage..if a player doesn't want to be here it's probably in the best interest of both parties to part ways..

I don;t think the Club waiting for a recovery and attitude change would have made much of a difference,...
