Wondering if someone could help me with this.

I'm considering getting my bike L's, and outside hooning around on a YZ250 and a postie on my cousins property my knowledge on bikes is fairly limited. Does anyone have a goods suggestion for a bike to start on, preferably a bike that's fairly common, a good value second hand buy and obviously that meets the restrictions for L-platers?

Cheers.

Honda VTR 250.

One of the best learners bikes around … Can be a little pricey 2nd hand but keep there value...

I would go a 125 CB, they are great little bikes, good to learn on whilst saving up for a road warrior later on, are cheap and some of them look great.

Think older models as well as they sit on the road nicely and are comfortable.
Suzuki GP125
Yamaha RD125
Aprilia Rs's are good as well.

Vtr250\. Fail safe good learner bike. Cheap on parts and to mend. And great bike to learn both riding and maintenance on. Pulling your own bike apart is a great way to learn to appreciate how she works. Bike maintenance is so overlooked and I'd just as important as riding her.

Depends on the type of riding you plan doing. Very important consideration to be made. Long rides with mates, track days get a rice racer. CBR or Kwakas are good. Commuting or cruisinig get a naked - vtr or a cbf. Offroad & road traily. Don't spend a tonne. It's your first bike. Breakdowns and drops are part of the educational joy.

Just don't get a scooter. Boooo!
