If Cleary leaves for Tigers, Penrith management won't wear any grief from fans because the narrative has clearly been set.
If he goes to Roosters, then something else entirely and both Penrith and Tigers fans get annoyed.
And I don't see why Ivan wouldn't want to coach his son. Sure there would be added pressure or struggles if your son was a borderline performer, but all indicators are Nathan Cleary will be a consistent rep-level footballer; he hasn't had second- or third- year syndrome.
It's not as if Andrew Johns' or Darren Lockyer's dads would have had an issue picking their sons in a team every week.
This has an interesting contrast to Mitchell Pearce, because frequently young footballers of famous pedigree go to their family club - Mark Gasnier, Morris twins, Sironen boys, Hughes boys, Mat Rogers, Dean Young, Eric Grothe, Ryan Cross, David Furner, Will Hopoate, Bryce Cartwright etc. And if not, it's usually a geography thing - not really an issue for Sydney clubs.
