Nathan Cleary

No idea how Roosters are rumoured to be planning to package the Clearys for 2020, when Ivan is contracted to us 2018-2020\. Unless they can make us dump him before then.

When has a contract ever been a problem for the Chooks. I am sure they would be willing to pay plenty to the WTs as compensation and the WTs would probably accept if they knew he was going to jump ship in 12 months anyway.

IMO its a two horse race between Penrith and us, with the Panthers being slight favourites. Although as good as he is, we have Brooks (if we can extend him) and a million plus a season can buy you a couple of very good players.

Happy to watch the young fellow develop as a footballer without worrying about whether or not he is coming here. Well at least until November when it becomes a possibility.

Couldn't agree more. There is something about him, maybe his personality and his upbringing where I would love him at WT, but if he goes elsewhere, I would be happy for him.

Even if he signed with the chooks or Brisbane - Id still wish him well. Too hard to hate him. [This word has been automatically removed] like a Ponga or a Mitch Aubisson, just nice guys wanting to play footy.

I would love Cleary here big time however my gut feeling is he wont come here and they are just talking this up to bring up his price elsewhere.. Would you want to play for your dad on big money and others think you are getting treated differently.. I hope i am 100% wrong..

Cleary is not exactly in the same boat as say, a Shannon McDonnell.

He's a consistent, high quality half that would be first picked at all 16 clubs in the NRL.

I don't reckon anyone thinks Nathan would be getting special treatment.

If anything, while the kid is still young, now is the time to connect with his Dad.

Later, when he moves out of home and becomes more independent, he will probably want to play for the highest bidder.

Cleary to me just seems to love playing footy. Money is secondary. I think we are within a very good shot of getting him. Can you imagine Cleary/brooks halves combo? my god im salivating already haha

Have a feeling he will end up at the Roosters imagine the TPA they will offer.

Maybe we can get a TPA for free oysters because he loves them.

To ensure the Tigers are not out bid by the Panthers or the Rorters what if the Tigers when negotiating with Nathan offer Ivan a contract extension that is for example several hundred thousand dollars above what Ivan is worth each season covering the contract extension that can be shared how Ivan see fits amongst the Cleary clan, is that wrong of me to suggest such a thing??

The Tigers front office would have had plenty of dialogue with Ivan about both a contract extension and the possibility of enticing Nathan across. Either way, I am pretty sure they would know well in advance if the Cleary's are coming or going….

I don't think Ivan is the type to spring on a last minute transition to another club. He is good mates with Pascoe. Nathan may stay at the Pennies. I think Ivan will be a long term Tiger. I don't think its about top dollar for the Cleary's and I can't see either at the Roosters.

Seems pretty clear he won't be at the Panthers. Given the amount of time he's had to sign contracts there, I'd be surprised if he stays.

We should have a pretty decent halves pairing.

I dunno Dave , at every turn his pricetag seems to grow and grow

Mad to do anything before seasons end , he might also be in a losing GF team

Pascoe will also be in demand. Plenty of clubs would love to get him onboard especially teams who need to be guided out of a big black hole known as the salary cap who are facing a few bleak years and need a road map to get back on track

I think the Tigers should have a shot at Nathan but it's not the end of the world if they don't get him. I'm pretty confident that Ivan will have a shot at him. Brooks is fast becoming a crucial signing. The kid is playing as good as any half excluding maybe Maloney in the comp.

A completely separate issue is resigning Ivan. Personally I think Ivan deserves longer at the club but that all depends on how the cap is manged and how the team performs going forward.

I really like what Pascoe, Go and Kelly have done. It's not often managers get praised. They certainly here about when things aren't going well. They have made some really good decisions over the last couple of years. Some off them tough ones that now in hindsight look obvious. But weren't at the time.

Good point, another club could make a play for all 3 as Pascoe and Ivan seem to have a good working relationship.

I think Ivan will want to stay he is on his way to rebuilding his 3rd NRL club now and deserves a chance to enjoy success from a platform he built. Plus he was a Tigers fan so that has to help 😛ray:

If Nathan doesn't come to us I hope he stays at the Panthers because the Roosters would make me sick.

Nathan obviously holds all the cards and I would think that Ivan has made that very clear to him. Why make a decision until you have to? And I would think both will give the various parties the respect of knowing where they stand in the situation.

Having announced a date to have this decided by will bring its own pressures to bear, but I guess it is far enough off the back of the season to be able to easily deflect any questions about it, even if he goes all the way to the GF.

IC thinks things through well in advance and is so organised.
