If it’s true that Brooks wants his future sorted, it could be a sign that the writing is on the wall with Nathan coming to us. The bigger question going forward could be whether we retain Brooks. He’s definitely worth retaining, however if we don’t, that’s 500-600k in the kitty to beef up some other area (potentially a Brooks replacement). If Brooks goes, it will mean we have Nathan. It’s almost impossible to believe that we won’t have at least one of them here in 2020.
 
What are the chances Brooke's would want to stay if we get Cleary? I can't see it, it's his team and all of a sudden he's meant to share it with Cleary… Would love for them to both play for us and make it work tho
 
I got the impression that Ivan wants to retain Brooks - think he even said so when it was brought up.
Im only guessing but I dont believe Ivan would openly say to the media that he hopes to get Nathan over without Brooks knowing what is going on. Room for both?

Of course there is room for both. 2020 is still a while away.
Who else will be in the halves if it's not Cleary/ Brooks?
Reynolds will be at the end of his career by then. Probably being a part time first grader, medically retired or O/S and Benji will be retired.
 
If we sign Cleary there will be plenty of interest for Brooks from rival clubs and that will force his price way up.There are plenty of clubs that need a quality no7.

So even if he wants to stay we may not be able to match the money he will be offered. Interesting times ahead, but as I have said before, Cleary on his own is not the answer, we will need to get some quality around him
 
Brooks has no intention to leave and would take less than offered elsewhere to stay IMO..

I’d extend Brooks now. This locks his price before any real competition. Clubs will circle as soon as NC is announced thinking Brooks will want out and force the price up.

BTW - As much as he denies it, I’d be surprised if Ivan didnt know the exact state of play with Nathan to the minute.

They live under the same roof, they probably talk about it every morning while Mrs Cleary is cooking eggs. Probably the most unique contract situation ever. Imagine a rival coach being that close to your star player, the player you hope to build your club around for the next 10 years.
