Nathan Cleary

Gould seemed pretty positive he would stay with them on 100% Footy on Monday night.

Who knows - they are all covering up what really is on the cards.

Why doesn't he sign now then?

I think Gould is sneakily trying divert Wests Tigers attention to signing other players whilst, i.e. Wests Tigers will hold their money and future recruiting as they hold on to the slim chance that they will get Nathan Cleary. Of course Nathan may never sign with Wests Tigers and they will look like dummys in 2019 when they and every other team realise that they have drastically weakened their 2019 team line up whilst they waited for Nathan to make up his mind. Get smart Tigers, sought this silly situation out very soon or you will be left holding the baby.

I think the Tigers would know very well whether Nathan Cleary has any intention of joining the club or not.

Groundhog Day. Are we still going to find out on Nov 2 ?
I've been reading this thread days ..
still most likely we'll be informed on Nov 1 of 2 as they started a few months ago.

Apparently on NC's birthday. Sometime in September.

Is there something about not being able to sign for the season after next until Nov 1st?

Correct can't negotiate until after November 1 for those players contracted for next season. NC's birthday is in November not September.

Sorry, I meant to write November. I think his birthday is in the middle of that month.

Sorry but this doesn't make sense to me. Ivan Cleary is WT's coach and his future livelihood is largely predicated on his coaching success at WT. He is Nathan's father and closer than anyone to his future plans. Why would he allow himself to be conned into waiting for Nathan and holding off on buying quality players thereby ruining the team's chances if he thinks he is no chance of coming here? Or have I misunderstood your post?

Hahaha yeah good one Newtown - Tigers coach being conned by Phil Gould over the future of his own son. Pretty sure you'll find it's the other way around, and that Gould knows he does not have a winning hand.

You are forgetting that Cleary is still under contract with Penrith is still under contract, to Penrith to the end of 2019\. Whatever Gould has stated about Nathan Cleary means nothing when the crunch comes and Penrith decide to keep Cleary at least for 2019 and possibly beyond. Gould can be just as ruthless in football dealings than Wayne Bennett.

heard a rumour that the Dogs want Reynolds back…..

Make it happen I say and have #6 Brooks and #7 Cleary,

Won’t happen I know people at the Dogs they would take him back but only if they can move Foran and he comes at 500k. It would be similar to Mbye. It’s possible but very unlikely.

What sort of Cake ya reckon

Madeira

Sultana's or plain..?

A what cake?

Madeira cake swaggy. Go down to Franklins and pick up a Top Taste madeira cake and treat yourself.

Although I don't believe either Franklins or Top Taste still operate anywhere in Australia.

Trivia - madeira cake is named after the wine from maderia, not because it's a cake from madeira. The cake itself is from Britain.

NRL 2018: Luke Brooks feels wanted at Tigers despite growing speculation around Nathan Cleary

Luke Brooks weighs in on the Cleary speculation.

LUKE Brooks has been the silent party in the speculation surrounding Nathan Cleary joining his father Ivan at the Wests Tigers in 2019.

Although Ivan Cleary declared Brooks ‘knows the situation’ after admitting he wants to coach his son at the Wests Tigers, the comment has remained unclear until now.

The 23-year-old halfback has been the subject of speculation since Cleary’s revelation last week, with both Brooks and the young Panthers star coming off contract at the end of 2019.

Appearing on NRL Tonight on Wednesday, Brooks said he has spoken to his coach and the two are clear on the unique situation at hand.

“He’s always told me he wants to coach his son, whether that be in two years or in a couple of years down the track. He’s always been open and honest with me about that and I’ve never felt unwanted,” Brooks said.

“It is a bit unique, but for me, I can’t really worry about that stuff, I just have to worry about me and playing footy. If that stuff happens, then it happens and I’ll worry about it when the time comes.”

It’s been suggested Cleary and Brooks, both halfbacks, couldn’t play together, nor would there be enough space in the salary cap to accommodate them as well fellow half Josh Reynolds, who has signed to a long-term deal with the club.

However, Brooks said it could potentially work in theory, but it would be a juggling act between the three halves.

He also revealed Cleary has made sure he feels wanted at his junior club and that he’s not going to be forced out.

**“He’s spoken to me a few times about it, I know where he’s at and as I said before, he does want to coach his son, but whether that be two years down the track or seven or so years down the track,” he said.\
\
“He’s said he’s happy with my performance and he wants me at the club so that’s pretty much what he said.”**

Nathan Cleary has "made his mind up" and will join Wests Tigers in 2020

A deal to bring Nathan Cleary to the Wests Tigers to unite with his father Ivan in 2020 is "done", according to The Australian's Brent Read.

Speculation intensified last week that a move to bring Nathan to the Tigers was on the cards after coach Ivan Cleary bluntly declared he wanted his son to play under him at the joint venture.

Following those comments, Penrith general manager Phil Gould said an agreement was in place with Nathan, the current Panthers halfback, that he could leave the club to play under his father at any time.

Read was in no doubt that the NSW No.7 would be linking up with his dad once his current contract expires at the end of 2019.

“That Nathan Cleary will be at the Wests Tigers in 2020."

Read believes Gould probably already knew Cleary was on the way to Concord before saying he would allow him to leave, as a way of lessening the disappointment of Panthers fans.

“And it’s interesting because we’ve heard all the comments out of Gus Gould in recent weeks about, ‘if he wants to go and play with his father, we can’t stop it,'" Read added.

“It’s almost like he’s been softening the blow a bit.”

Read says it's all but confirmed that Nathan Cleary and the Tigers will announce the deal in November.

“And on top of that, all the mail this week, people are telling me the Tigers are piecing the deal together now, it’s done, he’s made the decision, he’ll be at the Wests Tigers from 2020," Read said.

“Obviously they can’t make him a formal offer until November 1.

“I think they’re putting the pieces in place to get that offer right for November 1.

“I think he’s said he’ll wait until his 21st birthday (on November 14) and make a decision then.

“I’ll be stunned if he’s not at the Wests Tigers, I think he’s made his mind up, I’m being told he’s made his mind up.

“I think it’s done, I think he’s going there.

“And it’s a matter of finalising that deal, getting that deal in place, and they’ll table it November 1, and we’ll have a decision pretty quickly after that.”

Read also felt the door wasn't closed on Nathan joining the Tigers a year in advance, provided the Panthers could lure a suitable replacement to the club.

“Penrith will want someone to fill that void," Read said.

**“If Penrith can get someone for next season, like a Josh Reynolds or someone like that, then (the deal being brought forward a year) wouldn’t surprise me.**

“Or Luke Brooks, if they can do the old switcheroo, I wouldn’t say that’s out of the realms of possibility.”

Looks like poor Dean Ritchie is gonna lose his dough.

Gus is so transparent. You don’t meekly give up your SOO halfback, who will be one of the games premier players for the next decade the way Gus has. The last few weeks has been pure PR from Gus to massage his own ego. He’s that much of a narcissist, it would kill him to admit he couldn’t compete with what he’s up against. He’d rather con the RL world into believing he’s in on Nathan coming here. Whatever helps him sleep I guess.

I wouldn’t be prepared to lose grub just yet, even if it meant getting Nathan here a year early. Grub deserves another year before being totally written off. Having said that, the cash he’d free up could secure a handy backrower.
