New captain

Tiger Cime Lately it is not enough to be making metres. He is a good stats man but I would hardly say he has been outstanding his year. If he was leading from the front he would have re-signed and said boys get on board with me and lets focus on winning football games.

Have to put up with his crap contract talks all season.

Time to end it either way Aaron. Re-Sign and recharge the batteries or leave and give up the captain gig.

I honestly don't think we have anybody who fits the bill

Taylor doesn't have the fire to give them a good roasting in the in goal

Ballin's probably the closest to be honest , but that will cause another meltdown

ET is a wholehearted player but IMO he doesn't seem the sort of personality to rip shreds off blokes when required either. It is a sad indictment on our club when there are zero players who stand out as no-BS leaders who will haul non-performers over the coals. Soft club indeed.

Happy, Ballin is a joke mate, I just can't agree one bit there. I would have a complete meltdown. He has given this club 2 games service and can't even finish a game. I know its not his fault however he needs to know when to give it away.

I know he is a great bloke, and was a great senior player at Manly. Put him in charge of fitness or something. Or make him a trainer or something.

But its a disgrace his comeback attempts. I said 2 years ago it was a terrible signing and it gets worse by the week.

Today we played with 16 men. He lasted 10 minutes its pathetic. I think he is being selfish in continuing on.

No more comebacks please Matt.

I saw an interview today with Michael Lichaa. He's being bagged by his own club's fans because of his performance. The Bulldogs are going through a rough period too, with some of their recent on field performances and even some uncertainty surrounding their coaching position going forward. However (being off contract next season), he said he'd love nothing more than to stay with the club.

Doesn't say much for our captain when asked about his future, dances around the subject and has a cry because he doesn't know who the coach will be.

ET - One of the very few who actually appear to show any commitment to the club. Get him in asap. It might be the start of the culture/attitude change we so desperately need.

I agree the contract saga is not good. And I think he has handled the media situation poorly, but I don't have a problem with him wanting to know who the coach is going to be.

He hasn't been outstanding I agree and I never said that but he has been the best in a beaten/dominated pack. You don't make 100 plus metres or 30 plus tackles, several off loads just for stats.

Once a coach is appointed and we still have no commitment or the alternative from the players then I will be disappointed. At this point I would be sad to see either teddy or woods go but I will be glad to hear that at least that decision is made and we can progress.

I am of the feeling that changing the captain will create more unrest within the playing group. If Woods signs elsewhere then that would be reasonable but to do that now would create more hysteria in the media.
Sacking the coach is extreme enough at this point. Lets leave it at that at the moment.

Woods doesn't communicate with the team and you can't learn that. Some people are leaders and some aren't. Woods isn't. Nofoaluama has been playing some good football. He is underrated.

To see Woods' influence, you only need to watch what happens when he leaves the field after 25 minutes. If possible, we actually become worse! Shirt fronting referees these days only seems to turn them against your side so I'm happy that he doesn't do that.

There really is nobody in this side who would make a better captain. I like ET as a player but he has a very reserved personality and playing 80 minutes at a very high work rate is enough for him and I wouldn't burden him further with the captaincy.

It really shouldn't, but it still amazes me how much people misunderstand leadership in sport. If all you want from your captain is to scream and shout in an apparent attempt to 'fire up the boys', then go & play A Grade on a Sunday arvo.

Woods is the clear leader of this team. The fact is we are a young & inexperienced team, and as such he is a young & inexperienced leader, but he is a leader. Every week he turns up, plays big minutes (which will be to his long term career detriment) and takes the side forward. Just because we don't see him busting the line like Taumalolo or standing around shouting at his team mates like Graham, doesn't mean he is not a good leader.

We don't see what happens behind the scenes, and this is the key to being a leader of a professional club. These young blokes look up to him and to simply sack him as captain now wouldn't solve any problems on the field, would create problems off the field, would force him to sign elsewhere and probably start a domino effect of other top players at the club leaving as well. Who would want to sign for a club that has just lost its captain and best players?
