New coach.. Who should we target?

So according to some people on here, no-one will sign with or extend their contract at the Broncos because for the foreseeable future because they're not sure who'll be coaching them in 2020….

Yeah right, it really doesn't come into it!

What's the point in keeping a coach when the players and fans know he won't be there later?! Maybe Wayne will sign up a bunch of plodders on big deals to stifle his replacement? Manage the team as poorly as possible? Help himself to the best young players when he leaves?

Or maybe, just maybe, Wayne will continue to coach the team to the best of his abilities, even if he signs with another club at some point over the next several months.

It is the Broncos and money talks.
Broncos have never had recruitment issues so mute point.
You would expect with this announcement Demeitrou will be groomed the coming year.
What I like about it was though is that the Broncos have drawn a line in the sand and made a decision on next year with you would think both parties in agreement.
I see that situation far less messy than ours.

I guess in trying to see it from Ivan’s view he may possibly be in two minds as to what he wants his future to look like.
He might actually want to coach our club for a lengthy period of time knowing full well he may miss out on coaching his son in his prime.
I think the West’s Tigers coaching job is more attractive than the Panther’s coaching job in terms of personal success, building a club from the ground up, carving your own path without having an overbearing manager questioning your every move.
However at some stage over the next 2 years he’ll work out what he really wants.
In a way Nathan signing long term with Penrith really gives him a ginuine fork in the road.

Have been talking about this with a few people and the general concensus is Bennett would attract players but my view is who went to newcastle of any merit
Madge imo but Bennett would be my second choice

How can the Broncos possibly sign players knowing that Uncle Wayne won't be there beyond 2019 and not knowing precisely who is replacement is?

Ummm maybe because they are an established and successful club who dont need to prove anything. Or sign players to improve their squad.

Bennett brings corporate sponsor $s as well as attracts players. Easier to attract good cattle to Sydney location clubs.
I think he would be a great choice, 3 year deal and (hopefully) partly subsidised by Panther$s..
By my preference if Cleary stays committed he should be allowed to finish his contract. Any extension then is performance based and of course if he wants to stay longer term.

I would be gobsmacked if Bennett considered the Tigers.

Considering he is the guy who talked a young Craig Bellamy out of coaching us i would also be amazed.

When was that? 16 years ago? And we are still no more attractive as a club.
How disheartening.

You tell Broncos fans that they don't need to prove anything, especially after first round KO in this year's finals.

Oh how different things would have been if Bellamy had come our way. We could only dream.

Were they married..I believe that was his wife….

I’m sure there was a story of Bellamy wanting to stay connected to Brisbane as his kids were still at school. Never heard of Bennett talking him out of it. Wayne must have softened on us then as he did talk Marshall into coming back.

I was living in QLD at the time, the story is well known.

Bennet advised Bellamy we were too unstable at board level, he was proven correct time and time again for the next however many years.

I dont think it was something they admitted at the time, more something that came out in an interview a couple of years after the fact.

Bennett has his pros and cons
Pros
Players want to play under him
He would bring in quality players
He knows how to manage players
He would change the culture of the team
He is respected in the NRL
Cons
When he leaves a lot of players he brings with him leave with him leaving huge holes in the team and pretty much have to rebuild the team again
Boyd would follow him to the Tigers
How much longer does he want to coach for?
I doubt he would come to the Tigers

Well there's 3 fairly recent premiership winning coaches sitting around doing nothing.
Punt the re-builder and buy a winner. Think 'what would easts do' and do that.

Happy Wayne is without doubt a legen of the game, but the shinning light is now flickering and being a magnet at attracting players is on the wane.

If we need a new coach, it’s time to look at the next generation. Not sure Hogo has the runs on the board but as people have said talk to the Melbourne or Brisbane assistant coaches. I don’t think we need to keep going back to the same old coaches. Anyway the way I read the situation we will not be in the market for a coach for 2 years
