New coach.. Who should we target?

At the moment we have Cleary until the end of 2020, will he sign an extension or will he go? i dont know, do we get rid of him & cost the Tigers a fortune? we cant go through that again. At the moment he is our Coach so hopefully we sign some good players & let him get on with the job of coaching when he comes back to training.

Cleary if he wants to stay for 19/20.

If we are forced into another coach - my vote would go to Neil Henry or Barrett.

Definitely not Madge - don't need Souffs rejects.

Madge or O’Brien for me.

X2\. I saw O'Brien on one of the Foxtel Footy shows recently and having worked under Bellamy (like Seibold) he would be fully conversant with the Storm systems and what is required to get a team prepared week in and week out.

Get Sheens on the phone. Royce Simmons is dusting off the witches hats and Skando is pumped he kept his tafe certification in a folder.

Lets relive that 05 magic. We still have half the spine.

Keep Cleary for 2019 and look at the coaches coming off contract as well as a few up and comers i.e O'Brien, Demetriou etc.

Kelly Egan can handle recruitment if we're aiming to play the same style of footy, keep Ivan focussed on the week to week side of things, then wring every cent out of Penrith and take a couple of players and walk into 2020 with a chance at Top 4.

I'd like to say Hodgson but I think he needs another year with the ISP team. If we have to do it for next season I'd suggest either the Melbourne or Brisbane ISP coaches. They've worked under bellamy and Bennett 2 very good NRL coaches and would probably have quite a few ISP developing players that might follow them for loyalty and opportunity.

Craig Field was captain/coach of Wagga Brothers about 9 years ago and is eligible for parole in 2021\. Perfect.

Lol great post! Last line sums us up perfectly - still living in the past.

A week is a long time in league and a year is an eternity, so fellas lets just see how it all pans out shall we. To be honest no-one can be certain what is gonna happen.

As much as I like Hodgo, I don't see him as an option for NRL coach. I wasn't impressed at all with the ISP team especially considering the players that they had at their disposal. The times I watched them they had very little intensity or shape about them and looked like they lacked any real desire. That recipe certainly wouldn't work for our NRL squad.

I don't know much about O'Brien so it's hard to comment. How long has he been an assistant at NRL level?? If he's young and bright and keen to build a reputation for himself maybe he's a good option. I'd certainly prefer someone from way outside the club's circle - so not Hodgo or Payten. Toovey and Hasler don't seem to have the smarts to me, and I didn't like the way Barrett handled himself through the Hastings/DCE saga. Maguire probably has the runs on the board to attract quality players and right now we need to fill our remaining spots with 2-3 quality, impact type guys.

Madge or Toovey if going for experience. O'Brein or Demetriou if wanting to go the other way.

Go for the best, if we have the dough. Offer Bennett the 2 year contract he is seeking with the Broncos. 3 year, if that what it takes. He might bring some of those great youngsters with him.

Maguire in the frame as Sea Eagles go cold on Carty

Michael Maguire had some form of contact with Manly on four occasions in the past week as the club goes cold on the idea of appointing assistant John Cartwright to replace Trent Barrett, who is at war with the Sea Eagles and certain to leave.

The problem for Manly is Maguire has a long list of requirements about staff and budgets he wants agreed to or he won’t consider the job.

From SMH Danny Wider.

I have been told an offer of $700,000 a year has been made to Maguire. I’ve also been told the ex-Souths coach is highly rated by former Sea Eagles patriarch Bob Fulton, who, despite not having a direct role at the club any more, is the real powerbroker at Manly.

Maguire is considered the best coach available to slot into a club that needs reshaping. If he had his way, there is no question Maguire would take the Broncos coaching job when that comes up. He may have to take Manly instead.

Maguire is a good judge of a footballer. He can see potential in the Manly squad. There is a lot to like about the playing group.

The first and most pressing issue facing the Sea Eagles is the position of the Trbojevic brothers, Jake and Tom. They are not happy with Barrett’s treatment, but were happy Cartwright was set to take over. They will need to be sold on Maguire, if he is interested.

The Trbojevics are the most important figures in the future of the Sea Eagles. A year ago, if you had asked either of the brothers if they would ever think about leaving Manly, they would have ridiculed the idea. Now there is discussion that they need to be talked to so they can be shored up.
