I think they are looking at making all stands movable to accommodate circular oval games and rectangle games

Since when, they canned the upgrade and that upgrade was supposed to make it a rectangular ground?

ANZ?
It's always been like that

Apparently they are going to make the ends movable as well, but I haven't seen that anywhere other than here.

I don't think that makes much of a difference anyway, the biggest problem is with the steepness of the lower bowl.

and blocking off the top tier for club games etc

Not sure if this is at ANZ its definitely being done at the new Moore Park stadium

They have canned the demolish and D and C of the new stadium

Upgrades will still be happening including what i mentioned regarding the stand

You seem to know what's going to happen @Tigers79 re the up-grade and thanks for your input.
Is a retractable roof being planned?

No Roof in the revised upgrade due to budget
My guess would be there will be modifications to allow are roof to be placed on the stadium in future developments

The original roof as supports in place for a roof.

to add an enclosed roof

no mention of a roof from what I have been told

correct not in the scope for the upgrade.
I mentioned you would think they would include some modifications to the strcture to make ot easier to install a enclosed roof if required
It was however in the scope for the new build ( which we all know has been squashed by state government )

I did just find this, I don't know when it was last updated though.

Commercially known as Telstra Stadium and ANZ Stadium, the building has a new legacy plan in place: retractable roof and pioneering solution of mobile end zones.

that might be the one that was scrapped I think.
from what I can tell this is preliminary stages it will not be the full revamp but they need a 80k stadium to hold major events so the government know they need to do something and women's world cup is a good tester for them fit the screen and fix up some amenities etc
Do think we will end up at ANZ

I hope we don't end up there, the NRL should really boycott it for club games until the rake of the stands if fixed.

Looks good

would love the new SFS
Roosters don't have fans anyway and we don't have a opposition leagues club right next door and close to public transport

Except it is in the Eastern Suburbs

It’s on the outskirts of the CBD, a long way from the water.

It is in the Eastern Suburbs though, no denying it.

Irrelevant

I disagree, I think it is stupid for a club that is called Wests (named for being Western Suburbs) to have their home ground in the Eastern Suburbs. People complain about not having an identity then propose options to muddy that identity more.

we are West of the CBD
Wests tigers

The SFS isn't Wests of the CBD?

no but wests tigers are and the COE is West of the cbd so we can be anywhere in Sydney in theory
we would be silly not to look at a really good stadium with public transport and no fan base in the Roosters

I would much prefer Liverpool over the SFS or ANZ

I don't want to share with Bulldogs we will be the poor cousin
ANZ would be the sensible option if not SFS

ANZ is a hole

So is Liverpool.

Get bashed in the car park at Liverpool

Probably. You'd want to dress down (Tigers jersey) and leave your wallet at home.

Never been there … never had to ?
Heard stories ..mainly on the 6pm news

Like tonight. A fight in the KFC carpark over a parking spot.

get robbed on the way in to the ground or come back from watch a 30 -0 flogging and see no tyres on your car

Redfern used to be like that is that why Souffs don't play there anymore?

I think campbletown if you had to at least might work Liverpool is not a desirable destination to go see games like Belmore is not either

Campbeltown isn't desirable either.

It's Leumeah one of the only grounds that has a rail connection on its door step a Leagues club 50 m from the entrance and easy access to M5 and M7 road networks

Yeah it would be great if it was redeveloped, it ticks all the boxes. Unfortunately I can't see it happening. Basically it is an Labor electorate and won't get the funding needed from this State Govt.

Unfortunately it does not tick any boxes for me. There in lays the problem ....... no ground will tick all the boxes for all the supporters, we all have wants and realistically there is no simple solution. Personally I think they missed a huge opportunity by not redeveloping Concord into a 20,000 seat stadium. We are a very diverse supporter base which needs to be catered for. So good luck to the board in sorting that one out. My short term solution would be to play half our games at ANZ and Campbelltown until they make a decision, but a long term decision must be made soon otherwise we will be going to Brisbane to watch a home game!

Great to hear from you @Lidcombe_Magpie1
Is there sufficient car parking at or near the ground for a 20k crowd?

Yeah g'day Magpies 1963

Good to be posting again

Yeah there are 5 ovals across the road at St Lukes grounds, 3 ovals used by West Harbour Rugby, the AFL ground and St Lukes North where the Tigers currently train. They all have some parking. There is also the Hockey and Tennis centres which have some parking within a few 100 meters of Concord as well. Burwood station is one 5-10 min walk as well.

The problem is now the Concord Oval complex will only hold around 2,000 to 3,000 spectators on the western side of the oval, no seating on the eastern or southern sides. It will be a great boutique Rugby Oval for the West Harbour Pirates but significantly short of seating as an NRL stadium. It will have the best COE anywhere in Australia for an NRL club and also provide fantastic community facilities as well so well done to all in making this happen.

So we will have the best training facilities available which should attract talented players if we can sort out our coaching and player issues as well as finalising a real home ground.

SFS and Leichardt Oval, sounding promising. Lesgoo!

SFS is to far out of our heartland and would be another way to disenfranchise further from the Macarthur area which will be providing our juniors for many years to come LO needs to be upgraded to a 30k stadium and can't see that happening

Well in going throw my hat in the ring for port Moresby and go into a joint venture with the PNG Gov. Play half the home games in Homebush 1 heritage game at LO then the rest in PNG. Same colours as the kumuls

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/nrl-2021-nrl-expansion-to-papua-new-guinea-prime-minister-james-marape-wants-more-justin-olams/news-story/103c32fd4a795b852bb48e572668789e

If we re-sign ANZ it's history repeating and history has not been too kind for us. Time for change go all in on Campbelltown or LO.

The answer I think is really simple.

Base the majority of games at Campbelltown. The club can repair ties with the local area (which has been neglected) and with the council, and create a partnership with Macarthur FC to lock down the area to these two clubs. With this, the council, the Bulls, and the Tigers can look to having the stadium rebuilt (which was in the Bulls plans anyway). The team can then play the majority of games there (8 games - 7 if we have a home Magic Round game), 3 at Leichhardt (keeping the tradition), and if they want to continue the ties to the country, 1 in Tamworth.

I get peoples complaints that Campbelltown is too far away, but in reality it really isn't any further than having games at the SFS (when also accounting for traffic). The area around Campbelltown Stadium can also be redeveloped to make it an entertainment area (also in previous plans). And even if that isn't done, there is still plenty of options apart from just the Leagues Club for people to continue their afternoons/nights after the games not that far from the ground. (Closer than what is on offer at Homebush).

The area is ripe for the picking, the club and NRL just needs to actually see it.

I will also add that I think Liverpool is an absolute no go for a decent stadium as the current traffic issues around where the planned stadium is would only get worse with a stadium there. The plan may seem feasible on paper, but as can be seen with how well planners choose to ignore future increases in population density and subsequent traffic congestion, the Liverpool site is a poor choice. Plus I don't agree with having to share a stadium as it means that the site becomes a neutral venue, not a home ground. If sharing stadiums is the plan for the future, then Penrith should be at Parramatta, not getting an upgrade (though that is purely based on politics).

Great post @Lidcombe_Magpie1
I hope you stay in touch with the Forum.
We could do with a lot more sensible posters such as yourself.

Am I not sensible enough?

Looks good

would love the new SFS

@cochise You are amazingly sensible, just in a different way to @Lidcombe_Magpie1
And John Donnelly would make mincemeat :muscle: of your bloke on the footy field.

Ask yourself the following questions:
What is the most short sighted & dumbest option available?
What would not really please any of the fans, but not really alienate anyone either?

That will likely be the venue chosen

No matter which location is picked it will alienate some of our supporter base.

Venues, they'll plod along with the current plan for a few more years.

Start winning games and fans will turn up where ever they play just like they did in 2005/ 10/ 11. If you are good enough you can win anywhere Covid has shown that

A TRUE supporter wouldn't mind where WT'S played as long as we called it home
