New rules or interpretations

New rules ( or interpretations)

Has anyone thought how the new tackle interpretations will affect WT's team .
With all players having to get up rather than the current method of peeling off one at a time , and dancing in the tackles to be stopped by calling held, am I wrong in thinking that it will resemble the changes at the start of last season. If so I can't wait( as long as it lasts all season and not just the first half a dozen games).
It suited Wests game perfectly last year and I hope that will repeat itself.
It will hopefully slow down the big boppers , eg. The dogs , Warriors etc.)as they won't be able to lay down in the rucks and slow the play the ball. It just may be what we need in the game.
And it's true that there may be more scoots, but it's already 4 hit ups or dummy half runs and a kick at the end now , but it will stop the wrestling ( hopefully)
I can recall Farahs effectiveness at the start of last year and the guys running off that.
Maybe the season may have some silver linings after all.

Anything that attempts to curb the wrestle and diminish the influence of the monster packs has to be a good thing. I hope the refs blow the peas out of their whistles and don't stop until they force the bunnies, dogs and storms of the comp to change their games.

Then at seasons end, have them readying for a 2016 campaign with a minimum of two less interchange, but with an eighteenth man in case of concussion. Let's get some more footballers back on the the paddocks around the land, rather than so many athletes.

i thought the speedy play of the ball in the beginning of 2014 was part of the reason we thrived. towards the end the wrestle once again took over.

so, hopefully something similar happens in 2015 but for the whole year. guys like halatau, taupau and sironen should do well in a faster arena. Hopefully woodsy and ava can adapt too.

I'll give it six weeks…Coaches like Bellyache MaGuire Hasler and Tooves will have their whingefest and it will be back to WWE....

Penalties in the ruck are a blight on the game

I'm also hearing that if WT's players scream TAG , it counts as a tackle

Should help the missed tackle counts[/quote

As long as it reduces the wrestling, I don't care what they scream.
You have admit that ,when the ruck was cleaned up ,our forwards absolute smashed the bigger sides. The only downside is as Geo said , the crackdown may(will) go the way of all the other attempts to clean up the ruck and the refs will not have the guts to continue to blow thebwhistle when needed.
I don't care what it takes including a season of penalties , as long as this garbage goes from the game.

The only fault in the meetings on this was why was ANY Coaches involved in the decision .
Bennett, and I think it was the Roosters coach , was on the panel and no doubt would have voted to suit their team . As a favourite saying around here is "Players should play and Coaches should Coach. "
Well administrators should administer, not self serving Coaches.
Otherwise involve ALL theCoaches.

glad they are doing something but as GOLDCOAST TIGER touched on its ridiculous that Bennett, Robinson and was it Hasler (the current coaches that instigated the rule/interpretation change) knew this was going to happen a tleast 1 month before every other coach. All the other coaches and players were made aware at christmas time, 4 weeks after those in the 'thinktank'. Thats 3 or 4 weeks of pre season training they had in their advantage.

It might only be a little thing in the big scheme of getting rid of the wrestle, but for a business such as the NRL, its just not right.

In 2005 there was a much faster play the ball, teams like the Tigers and Cowboys played great football that year on the back of quick play the balls, the amount of tries scored starting from inside their own half was great to watch.

What happened after that year was the coaches got together at the end of the season and those with big forward packs eg Roosters, Bulldogs, Manly and Broncos etc complained that is was touch football, mainly because their forwards could not match the speed of the game especially near the end of matches. I think in one game in 2005 the Tigers put 30 points plus on the Sharks in the last 20 minutes of the match as the Sharks players were stuffed.

So the dominate and surrender tackle cam into the game in 2006 and since it has become the wrestle bore feast of modern NRL, with 3 in tackles, wrestling holds etc all to win the ruck and massively slow down the play the ball. Watch any game in the 80s and 90s and see how much quicker the play the ball was.

In my opinion the game in 2005 with skilful play was much better to watch than teams wrestling to hold down players as long as possible.

I hope the new rules massively speed up the play the ball and the referees enforce them all year.

As to what teams will benefit the most, those with good creative players. For mine the Cowboys with Thurston and Lui will be big improveres under the new rules. We will also go great as Robbie is probably the best attacking dummy half in the game and thrives on an up tempo game.

I for one think it is a move in the right direction, if they also reduced the interchange to 6 per match as well I think we will have the perfect game of NRL. I would however although teams to replace an seriously injured player out of the game eg, broken bone, heavily concussed (to be decided by an independent doctor at the ground and the player replaced can't come back on) with a player that has already played at least half of the earlier game (ideally NSW cup match played before the NRL game).

This game will be quick for the big men now, no holding down and resting.
If it means getting rid of the Chicken wing tackles and the Jiu jiutsu holds out of the game? I'm all for it.

Great news for the best attacking hooker in the game.

He will carve up with quick play the balls.

This is GREAT news for the tigers!!

Agree and I feel these changes will be for the betterment for this young Tigers side ,the faster the game the better IMO.

Dont forget the other team gets the ball sometimes too.
I seem to recall us struggling big time defensively when teams get a rol on against us.
I guess its back to == you score 32 we'll score 33 ==
Time will tell….these new interpretations have a habit of being lost just before Origin time

i don't think we could of asked for anything better for our spine.
especially for brooks and moses going into their second season.
it may even help halatau become relevant in our attack.
we have the skills around the ruck to take full advantage in attack.

under the old system our defense sucked anyway.

but as noted above, how long it lasts and how it is policed week to week and ref to ref is the big unknown.

That is the problem though Bon , how long until the whinings of Toovey ,Hasler and Bellamy do things slowly revert back to the old ways

If we had dominant refs that the players respected that would help as well

I'm all for a rules change that gets rid of wrestling and grub tactics…

The only thing I will say is Bellamy and co will find a way to manipulate the system once it is in place, they always do,let's hope the refs stay solid on any changes made and remain consistent week after week, otherwise it is another waste of time and energy..... :frowning:
