God I hope so.
I know there are a lot of people who are adamant the tigers need a "pick and stick" jersey that should never change. It should represent the two sides of the jv, and since the merger it has always been a combination of the two old clubs' jerseys.
Not trying to upset anyone - and bear in mind I was a Balmain supporter since about 1981 - but I truly believe that there are many benefits to a different approach.
Firstly - there is a very solid financial reason to change a team's Jersey as often as possible: it is exactly because every kid in the playground has to have the latest Jersey.
There are wtf members here who have every iteration of the jersey.
EPL teams have done this forever. The slightest change, completely different alternate or away jersey equals more revenue.
It's a proven method of increasing sales. I can't recall the manufacturer - so I'm paraphrasing here - but it started in the 50's I think when to sell more cars all a company did was offer last years model in different colours so people new it was the current one.
IPhones are a perfect case in point. It's effectively planned obsolescence by "FOMO" or peer pressure....
Secondly, black, white and orange are fantastic colours.
But this whole "identity" thing is overblown.
"Pride in the jersey" is so past it's time its cringe worthy.
The club, the team, the supporters are deeper and ffar more important than whatever jersey they're wearing that day.
My view is this: let's just get some awesome looking jerseys that incorporate the colours - or even modernise them with variations like charcoal and ochre if it works? - and change with the times.
Even all those years ago the reason I chose Balmain was I loved the tiger and their orange jersey.
I seriously think that simply a great looking jersey can win young fans. And if it looks good enough to wear anywhere, then people are going to see it and maybe want one?
I'm not trying to antagonise, I'm simply saying it's 2024. There is no Balmain in the nrl. There is no Western Suburbs in the nrl.
I don't care about division in the boardroom. All I care about is one club, so let's leave the past exactly there and get with the times.
