Next Captain

Co captains for me - Packer and someone else. Packer won’t be on the field constantly and not sure I’d want him talking to refs - does everything else really well. Maybe if we sign a good half or hooker they can be captain, big advantage having someone in your spine as captain.

Until a few weeks ago 95% of the forum wanted Packer shipped off to another club, now he's being talked of as captain lol.

As much as I used to hate the idea, to be honest for now I think it's safer to go with a few co-captains until an obvious stand-out emerges.

I went Aloiai. Not convinced he's the best option, but I am hoping should he be given the opportunity that he will take it with both hands and become the leader we need.

Tried to vote Packer but he needs to be on the field
I think he would like the added responsibility and would add to his list of achievements since being out of prison
All he needs to do then is lead us to a title
If we were to sign Widdop then he would be the man
He has no baggage at this club and hopefully we can start fresh with some new blood
I am thinking a Pacer and Widdop 2 captain policy could work well
Widdop for his level headed approach and Packer for his aggressive approach
Widdop to lead the players around the park and talk to the refs
Packer to lead our defence and to gee up our players when required
Kind of like the good cop bad cop approach

You can look at it two ways. You can see that it shows a lack of options, or it’s a testament to how big of an impact he made in the games against the Broncos and Parra. He wouldn’t be my choice, but he’s in the mix

Aloiai.

He's well spoken, plays aggressively and is a lock to be in first grade and playing big minutes for some time. Doueihi is still a bit young and doesn't strike me as a leader in the same way as Aloiai but he is passionate and also quite intelligent. Luciano can be like an emotional leader - fire people up, lead by example but I don't think he's necessarily who we'd want to have talking to refs given he could lack composure and perhaps doesn't communicate as well as you'd like.

Douehi eventually. Maybe another full season and see where his heads at mentally.

What’s wrong with his head?

He's still pretty green when it comes to playing in the NRL. After the tears last week, the pressures of life and a footy career (with the ups and downs) are obviously taking their toll. In a year or 2, we will have a clear indication of whether he's legit captain material. I think he has potential, but we'll see.

I’m sure a lot of what happened in Lebanon played a part in that. Not sure why so much is being made of it. Even if it wasn’t Lebanon related you could easily give him credit cos he shows passion. It was only a few weeks ago MCK copped it for joking around with opposition players. Now another player shows emotion that could be attributed with losing and we question him over it. I fail to see how him crying was a bad thing, regardless of the reason

Chee and AD are completely different stories and you know it and I fail to see any comparison with regard to what we are talking about. In case you haven't realised, I voted for AD but I am reserved in the fact he is about 1.5 years into his NRL career and you sound like you want him captain this week.

Oh yeah definitely, I wasn't having a dig at him, he's been impressive lately for sure.

I don’t actually. And no, I don’t want him Captain this week.

It’s all good, I know where you were coming from. I was laughing at him after the Raiders game, but hit back strongly.

packer out of that list
i would go noffa as he gives 100% no matter what, spoken well enough

Wouldn't put the responsibility on AD yet but could be a captain in the future

Different types of emotion

I’m disappointed Hobbo that you didn’t vote for Brooks

I’m not surprised that I am not surprised that Brooks has received zero votes so far.

He probably wouldn’t get many votes for Next Halfback also

Doueihi? Why replace one player who can't nail a spot with another who hasn't cemented the fullback spot yet?

I remember thinking that of Mbye and here we are. Given the captaincy before he had a position nailed down.

Doehie might become the new Mmbye in 4 years no thanks
Brooks gosh he probably wont be there in a year or two
i think we will need to import a captain

The answer surely lies outside the club at this stage. No real candidates internally.

Have a leadership group with Doueihi, Luciano and Aloiai included but they need an experienced leader alongside them. AD and LL potential future captains in a few years time.
