Next years backs ?

Brown, whilst a good fullback, isn't in the same group as Slater, Hayne, Dugan, Bowen, Gidley, Lachlan Coote, Kevin Locke, or like Hodgo used to be…..All extra playmakers. The day of the big, strong, safe fullback might be gone for the moment. If Brown was next years fullback, the coach would have him there now, no doubt.

That is why, IMO, Ryan Cross either isnt or wont sign and if he does, he wont fit the fullback mould either.

It is the same reason why now that Moltzen is starting to get back to having some confidence, that he is remaining in at fullback. He can sneak in the line and organise, and sneak back again. I personally think that they wanted Moltzen to stay on less money, and they bluffed by letting him look around, but St George snuck under their guard.

It has been spoken about, and I think it will be fact, that Marshall will be Fullback. He just isn't there now because we don't have another good 6 right now.

I've never seen Tedesco play, can some1 explain why he's so good?

He's 17 years old, an Australian schoolboy rep and a natural fullback with great speed and great instinctive play. The NYC team has struggled to find a fullback all season and Tedesco was promoted once he finished SG Ball commitments for Wests. He scored another try tonight for the Tigers and given the rate at which he's coming along, he'll be playing FG in a couple of years time.

we all know Lote will be on a wing but the fullback and other wing players are unknown, according to the media we have signed union winger John Grant so i guess we just add him to the list of potential winger and fullbacks, so that's Brown, Utai, Ryan, Reddy and Grant that can play in the positions so who do we choose ? iv been thinking about it a lot and wanted to know what you guys think

Brown is yet to be officially re-signed. Options are available for next year though, but it's way too early to predict who will play where. Going off what we know though, the following players could play the following positions:

Fullback: Brown (if re-signed), Reddy, Grant
Left wing: Tuqiri, (Brown (if re-signed) Grant, Finau
Right wing: Ryan, Brown (if re-signed), Utai (if re-signed), Reddy, Kamuta
Left centre: Lawrence, Simona, Brown (if re-signed)
Right centre: Ayshford, Reddy, Kamuta
Five eigth: Marshall, Sironen, Fulton, Lawrence
Haflback: Lui, Miller

There may be other options that I have missed, but I reckon that's most of them.

I like the idea of Grant at fullback. He should be solid in defence, good under the highball and coming from rugby sevens it would be great to see him popping up in attack for some strong runs off marshall's hip. I reckon he will be fullback.

Tuqiri and either Utai or Reddy at wing.

Lawrence and Ayshford in centres (unless some massive playing people in different positions experiment is on the cards)

Marshall at 5/8 and then halfback.. hmm. Lui (with a bit of faith in improving his defence)?

your going off what he's done in 7's rugby? :unamused:
all this talk about Grant and he might not even see 1 game of FG.He certainly won't be there round 1 like some are suggesting

Seriously. Tedesco and Sironen wont be ready for 1st grade within the next 12 months. They are kids.

I don't know about that. Sometimes kids with great talent make it early into first grade. Tim Brasher, Laurie Daley and Brad Fitler etc all started first grade at around 18.

For mine both of those 2 mentioned have great talent and could play NRL next year. Tedesco is a natural full back and would be a better option than most others at the club except Brown. I would take Tedesco at full back every day of the week over Reddy or Grant.

I have said before I expect Sironen to start NRL in the centres and it could happen next year.

A backline next year of:

1\. Tedesco
2\. Uati/Ryan/Brown
3\. Lawrence
4\. Sironen
5\. Lote
6\. Marshall
7\. Lui

There is enough experience in that back line to bring 2 young talented players in. It most likely will only be 1 and in my opinion it will end up being Sironen in the centres that plays most of next year. I would not be surprised if Tedesco also gets some games next year. Ashyford would move to the forwards if Curtis comes into the centres.

The backline in a few years will be as good as the current youngsters at the Broncos when you add Marika Koroibete, David Nofoaluma,Tim Simona and Jacob Miller to Sironen and Tedesco, we should end up with a great young backline in a few years time.

Agreed 100% with the first part about Brown, I loved the work Brown put in when he filled in at fullback, but I really don't think he is anything more than a fill-in there. He was solid, but he's not a support player/extra play maker. It's not naturally part of his game.

But there is no way Benji is playing fullback, put that to rest now. It's just ridiculous and it won't happen.

Reddy, for the same reasons as Brown, won't be a great fullback either. Grant for his kicking and experience at fullback in Union may be an option - obviously it is highly unlikely he'll be there round 1 next season though.

I think our best option is Reddy, just for his experience over Brown. To start of with anyway, then maybe ease Grant into it till Tedesco is ready to go.

Willow great list. For mine Marika Koroibete would be in front of both Finau and Kamuta for any wing spot in the top grade next year, just an opinion ( I could be wrong).

Also have a feeling young Tedesco may play some NRL next year as well.

yep, I am - wrt to sevens thing - I was going off his speed and based on some tries he has scored.
I reckon he would blitz it in the NRL if he got into a hole.

Union and League playing levels aside - a good rugby league off season and training regime may turn him into a great addition. Not a bad start for the trainers: speed, kicking and catching plus a bit of national experience.

I think its great that they looked outside of league and toyota cup. Its a one year contract and he was probably quite cheap. But lots of work to do - fingers crossed and all that. Good luck to him for the off season and 2012.

seems as though everyone is getting carried away with his speed, but no one has seen him make a tackle.Chances are coming from Union he probably has a lot defensive issues to work on

I'm getting sick of people saying "MOVE MITCH BROWN TO FULLBACK MOVE MITCH BROWN TO FULLBACK MOVE MITCH BROWN TO FULLBACK MOVE MITCH BROWN TO FULLBACK MOVE MITCH BROWN TO FULLBACK MOVE MITCH BROWN TO FULLBACK MOVE MITCH BROWN TO FULLBACK MOVE MITCH BROWN TO FULLBACK MOVE MITCH BROWN TO FULLBACK WE NEED TO GROOM HIM FOR NEXT YEAR". We have an on-going season and you want to play a guy in a filled position just because you want to groom him next year? Even with no consideration of how to may affect the CURRENT season we are in?

very true GNR4LIFE.. but I did get excited when they announced his signing. it aint the same old, same old.

so to be a bit more realistic/conservative:
1 Reddy (or Brown if re-signed)
2 Tuqiri
3 Lawrence
4 Ayshford
5 Grant (or Utai if re-signed - alternatively a young player if Grant bombs out during trials)
6 Benji
7 Lui (or Miller)

Finally some common sense about Grant if we were to go through injury free on the wings Grant won't see any game time . He isn't ready and won't be for a while best case scenario

hmmmm from wat we already have signed for next year I would guess or would like a back line something like this
\
\
1\. Grant
2\. turqui
3\. Asyhford
4\. lawrence
5\. Reddy

6\. Marshall
7\. Lui

1\. Reddy/ Brown
2\. Tuqiri
3\. Ayshford
4\. Lawrence
5\. Utai

14\. Ryan

18\. Reddy/ Brown

2013
1\. Tedesco
