I think she could have been but from the late 50's up until the 70's they lived at (I think it was) 32 Albert Street Cabramatta and I lived in Lovoni Street which ran parallel to it.
Margaret was a staunch Labor woman and actually had a very strong influence and played a huge part in Gough's political life.
Gough was the Federal Member for Werriwa and their Daughter, who I knew as Cathy (actual name may have been Caroline or something like that) was a very tall girl like her mother and I think was a year ahead of me at Cabramatta High School and was there until I think probably 4th form (year 10 these days in around about 1970) and then disappeared probably to attend some fancy Ladies College somewhere.
I think it was a cousin named Dennis that may have lived with them at some stage because I recall him attending Cabramatta High School for a short period back around that late 60's, early 70's period as well.
I was only 16 at the time but I was outside the Cabramatta Civic Centre with a couple of mates handing out how to vote cards on Saturday 2nd December 1972 and was in the Whitlam's back yard having a couple of beers that night with the locals having a victory celebration that night.
I actually souvenired a beer jug from the night that I still have to this day. I believe that the Ireland's from the Sunnybrook Hotel provided the refreshments and glasses etc for the occasion and were chasing payment for a while. Don't know if they ever got paid for their part of the catering.
Have some fond memories growing up in Cabramatta back then when it was a totally different place to what it is now.
Incidently it didn't take Gough long to give Cabramatta the flick after becoming Prime Minister.

Those ads trick me into thinking VB was a good beer, and a box of twisty’s was only about $18, so as a 16 year old with a couple of mates you could afford to get a box and walk the streets till it was finished. Then I got into a pub and had a New on tap in a Schooner glass, now that was heaven compared to vb.
