I believe there was a designated race every Friday night that was fixed and that's where the big boys made their money. The master fixer was one of the big 3 of NSW crime at the time.

my mate's old man, was so called pit boss at HP , 2nd job he always had. Refused to be head honcho for a major bank, Happy to sit in the passenger seat ,Told us a winner in 1 race on the way to the track , Asked him why the extra job , Told it pays more, cash

Ian Craig's the best caller I've heard during a long, long punting career.
He had the ability to read what was happening that was unmatched. If Ian said a horse was travelling well, it was actually travelling.
I can't remember him ever getting a finish wrong.

I worked there every Tuesday and Friday night while I was at uni.
Sold tickets, worked the door of the Ranji Bill bar, shovelled horse shit, stood in the freezing car park with 4 jumpers on in winter.......those were the days.

raises a lot of questions but doesn't answer them .
