Not perfect but some good signs

Today, was about all you can ask for in what was horrible conditions. We dominated the entire game and the forwards laid a nice solid platform. A little better control and building of pressure in the first half and we would have blown Manly away today.

@Tiger_Steve. Yeah but that was against Blacktown Workers. He didn’t look like a first grader today. He should have been a level above but he wasn’t.

Biggest thing to take out of tonight is the play of our props. Twal, Mikalele, Aloai. I posted before that Madge would improve our strong, young aggressive props hugely as they have untapped potential. His relentless training methods will be big for these lads. Mats and Packer are what they are solid leaders but the young guys will carry our forward pack. Matterson and Garner were also strong and ET is good in wet weather games he covers well.

Our defense was phenomenal and it wasn't just that good scramble defense from last season they were attacking with their defense driving Manly backwards. When's the last time you've seen a Tiger's team do that.

Yeah I agree. Obviously there is still plenty of work to do and it’s completely unrealistic to expect the team to be the finished product in game 1\. Have to say it was the “ physicality” of all our forwards that impressed me. They wanted to hurt their opposition both with and without the ball. Loved it, let’s hope they can keep it up.

This is the best comment I have read … Thank you

Music to my ears.. especially against the Manly scumbag pack..

We did dominate the rack both in defence and attack for 80 mins. Manly had some big middle forwards that could have split a lot of teams structure if they weren't switched on.
Ours forwards were able to get over the advantage line. Going into the half time break it was clear to me that we were the stronger team even though we were two nill down.
We got ourselves in good field positions in the first half but couldn't hold onto the slippery ball.

A lot of comments asking when was the last time we saw a performance like last night? Well, early last year. We played for 80 minutes every week over the first two months. We just have to learn from that and go on with it this time.

Did nothing wrong really, dropped one ball I think. Was safe otherwise. Suli pushed him back all night but I am sure he will do that to a lot of defenders.

While it was not a night for the backs, he didn't look like he had that extra bit of speed or strength you need. I have seen nothing to suggest he will be more than a 'safe' centre or 'stop gap'. If Mbye or Nofo came into the backline I think Momo will be the first to go.

What were peoples thoughts on Momo? I didnt really notice him too often.

I thought he had some decent early touches where he showed a bit of footwork. Might have lost a bit of confidence when he spurned that try…Was solid in D. Happy enough with his performance.

Still haven't had a chance to watch a replay, but from the highlights Jennings looked awful, he got in the clear and actually ran towards the chasing defender and got tackled.

Robbie looked like he was controlling things nicely.

We loose nothing with Thompson at the back, in fact I think he's better than Mbye.

Twal maybe shouldn't try to run straight into Marty, hahaaaa
lesson learned there.

Packer had no idea what do when he got into space, possibly bombed a try by not positioning his body to pass to Brooks.

Things could have been a lot different on the scoreboard if the ref wasn't in the way and if that dopey Manly player had passed to his support.

Happy for the win.
But I'm not getting too carried away, looks like we will still struggle to score points.
Packerlino still need to pull their fingers out in the yardage department.

Not quite. The team scrambled for 80 mins for the first 2 months last year. Last night the forwards actually got physical. There is a hell of a long way to go, but for once it actually looked like our forward pack might not be the team every other forward pack looks forward to playing.

Still a week is a long time in football so it will be interesting to see if they can back it up against a big Warriors side next week.
