NRL 360

Still reeling from NRL 360 on Tuesday night when Kent said, if you can't make at the west tigers, no other club will have you, and the possible validity of that statement, what do you blokes think.
Regards getting a mentor/Meninga role, all for it, but can't think of anyone decent as all the names thrown up a rubbish and are definite no's.
Fittler: a joke and he would make it all about himself, by the way hadn't seen him for a bit, saw him on the tv on Sunday, does it look like he has had some work done?
Joey: a joke, never has anything good to say about us and tears the game down like Gould used to, makes ridiculous statements to make headlines and again would make himself the centre of attention.

No one of relevance since the merger that doesn't have a stigma/cloud over them (especially Robbie and Benji), no one from the glory days of both clubs has any relevance to the modern game (especially Blocker,Benny and Tommy).

Any other ideas?

I don't disagree with anything they said. Right now the bear (WT) needs to be poked because for all intent and purpose - the playing group don't seem to get it when they take the field - pride in the jersey first and foremost, and that starts with competing for 80 minutes every week, win lose or draw. Not 40 minutes, 80. That's what they're paid to do and right now they're stealing from their employer as far as I'm concerned.

Tbone, is it possible that criticism is a good thing? Don’t you think we should be grateful for it? I wonder why some organisations spend big money to garner criticism from customers?
I put criticism into 2 categories. With and without substance regardless of the reputation of the messenger, and discard one of those groups. I would rather they criticise us than say nothing. Regarding the relevance of the relics..that’s what we have, I think it’s great to see guys like Sironen in the club.

Yea good point . My concern is the agenda that drives it . If all people Mr Agenda Phil Gould , referenced it in his podcast about bagging players to protect mates , and clubs who give info , or clubs they have ties too , etc . Like Crawley , who I think is shutout from the Tigers . Is it criticism really , or is it a vendetta . It’s hard to know , and what tends to happen is when you don’t trust the source or respect the source , then no matter how truthful what thier saying is , we all just dismiss it as rubbish . For good reason , because it’s not about helping you , it’s all about kicking dead bodies .
Chammas and Brent Read seems to be our only media advocates , but unfortunately neither has a big enough platform . Like when Brent Reed is on these panel shows , he gets shouted down by the News Media boys club.
I would love for a Channel 10 / Amazon/ ESPN /Netflix , package to take over and get media rights . If only to just get some fresh opinions .

I agree, that in general we tend to place far too much importance on the trustworthiness of the messenger. We all make mistakes, we all have bias. My point is basically we can get more value from discarding the messenger regardless of who they are and focus only on the message. If a guy wearing Eels colours threw a gold nugget at you would it be any different if he was wearing WT colours? ?

Benjis comments were bittter, we’re still better off without him you can’t tell me he’d be happy here to sit on the bench or worse still play reggies. He won’t mutter a word about it if it happens at south’s. He thinks he is bigger than the club and has a god given right to be chosen because of what he’s done in the past. That’s why he was let go because if that were to happen here he’d constantly be mouthing off in the media, he’s doing it now but apparently hasn’t thought of us since October.

And yes our efforts and performance have gone up accordingly

Absolutely would've been trounced by 60 if he was still here.

So I assume you are happy with the effort last 2 games stop making excuses after excuses for their inept performance. And trying to justify their performance by saying it would have been 60 if Marshall was still there is lame very lame move on from Benji and look at the person at the helm

Now If you still think Marshall is God's gift to Rugby League, good for you....I think he has proved he isn't God's gift to the Tigers over the past few years....we still haven't made the finals. It is a general opinion that he produces a turnstyle defence, so it is not a big stretch to consider that he would have let in another few tries to add 20 more to the score.

I am not making up any excuses for any player or the team... I am offering (if at all) a possible reason why someone is struggling or why the teams performance is below expectations. At least half of the posters on here have totally unreal expectations (not sure of what yours are, given the situation the club has found itself in).

I do not accept mediocrity by the way (this gets thrown around far too much) but I have patience, that the ones that can will overcome the setbacks we have had, right the ship and go on to make the finals.

Now if you can't see the difference between reasoning about something and making excuses .... You just go back to being your negative self and have another beer - myself I prefer to be positive about our team and most of it's players.

Still not over Marshall I see . And no I don’t expect miracles but what I do expect is to see the team improving maybe you can see it but It can’t . Why is it Holbrook got the titans to Improve back end of last season with the same squad that finished last season before. And there you go again judging someone you don’t even know, for a start I do not drink alcohol but I bow to your greater knowledge and wisdom

Joey is actually pretty fair to us. You watch Freddy and the 8th? I think his analysis is pretty spot on.

I get where Kent is coming from albeit a little misguided. There are a lot of players who couldn't make it with us who signed elsewhere to do much better things.

But a clearer explanation of strategy would help. From the outside looking in we seem really desperate. Signing Packer, Matulino, Mbye, Reynolds on big coin. Picking up Roberts, Musgrove, Amone, the scraps from Souths. Getting BJ from Canberra and Ofa from Brisbane, players who weren't in high demand. Swapping for Laurie even though we had already signed him. An apparent SOS to Hastings, who plays in Super League. All of this is high risk, high reward which is not a healthy way to build.

All I hope is they get off Mbye's massive deal at the end of the season and make a savvier purchase in place of that. You'd hope Hastings is nothing above 400k.

As of now we can sign blokes with Packers money next year yet we’re not even being mentioned in the exchanges for Staggs, Coates etc. we go after a young half whose had issues to play lock? I fear we are basically just irrelevant until we make some kind of drastic change.

I don't care if you drink beer or water - it was a figure of speech. By the way I've been over Marshall for years, never wanted him back.
I'm not judging you - you were judging me e.g. "So I assume you are happy with..." and "trying to justify their performance "

If you are going to be condescending - "but I bow to your greater knowledge and wisdom" don't bother talking to me.

At least I try to be positive - you are correct, I don't know you.....happy to leave it that way.

I flicked over to Fox League and NRL 360 was on. They were discussing Adam Reynolds contract and Benji said his advice would be to look after himself.

They then discussed Best New Recruits and Paul Kent mentioned his choice was Daine Laurie and discussed player of the round which deservedly was Paps from Melbourne at which time our former turnstile five eight sniggered “ and the Tigers let him go”.

He would have known we were all in for Tedesco at the time and we all know how that turned out.

I appreciate what Benji did for us early in his career, however never want to see him back at the West’s Tigers

They all have agendas and are lazy "journalists" quoting each other and pumping up their own tyres. Fox even called Bwaith and Ennis legends of the game. LOL

I'd be better off just putting my money in membership that keep paying for the drivel they serve up. It just a shame that I follow a couple of other sports

The first 360 this year was Cronk vs Buzz on Cronk's conflict of interest. Who cares. It was the season build up and we have to cop that as fans.

If you thing league is a small world, the "journalists" world is even smaller.

Take Alexander, he won't comment on Panthers games but will jump in on 360 with a clear conflict of interest and push his agenda against decisions, players. and clubs.

Or the easter Monday blockbuster that didn't get a mention ANY media outlet in the build up.

I used to think the worst thing that could happen was the NRL running the media, but have done a full 180 on that one.

With good reason. He believes, and so do I, that Bellamy is coaching malicious tactics to slow the opposition down. The grapple tackle, chicken wing, hip drop, even wrestling techniques started with them. Honestly, when Bellamy is done coaching, let's see how much grubby defence the Storm come up with after then. My guess is not as much.

You can't be "letting someone go" when you make them a contract offer. Tigers made Paps an offer, he left for basically the same offer at the Storm.

Drought-face Crawley doesn't seem quite sure on his stance re: clubs showing club legends no loyalty or respect. He has spent months slagging WT off for not bowing down to lick the feet of his mate Benji and offer him a contract for this year. Yet when the Adam Reynolds saga was being discussed (including another panel members legit argument that Souths had disrespected Reynolds by releasing the statement that Reynolds has been on a very restricted training regime for years.....thus reducing his attractiveness to other clubs), hypocrite Crawley stated "I can see where Souths are coming from".
The Big Dry is an absolute knobber of a journalist.
