NRL Nines ***LIVE GAME THREAD...

I'm no fan of 9s much either…. But I'm a WTs and rl fan and I'll watch it today
We looked out of our depth... And basic fundamentals like us as flat in attack as you'd be in a defensive line when we were not making any metres anyway... It's just baffling and embarrassing and not at all entertaining like some teams are playing

This is it. If you can't do attack and defence at least pick one. Neither was anywhere near adequate. It looked like 9 blokes who suddenly realised there was a game on but didn't have a clue what to do about it. Oh and a last tackle stroll over from dummy half just to emphasise the point. You would mind a mix of the good and bad but aside from Simona's try I'm hard pressed remembering anything else that was good.

Can't wait to see Shannon Walker in action here. Hopefully he doesn't snap an ACL.

Did I hear correctly that we already have Lawrence and Cassel injured?

I didn't see Chee-Kam on the field during the first game?

Awful performance. Interested to see game two before really getting stuck in. But they really had no idea - Sue and Simona had go but and for me that was about it.

I understand some teams don't pick their strongest squads, but they are still representing our Club. Don't sell 9s jerseys for $160 and then send a squad of Nuffies.

Griffin went well. He looked like he could be a good option next year. Seems to have a great off-load. Simona is a weapon. Naiqama looks dangerous.

Drinkwater was terrible. Addo-Carr was real bad. I'm not writing off Addo-Carr just yet though.

Lets see how we go in the next game.

Addo-Carr would be a contender for worst club debut ever, albeit in the 9s. That was an awful showing.

Yeah ok it's only the nines and who cares but still, that was just a lousy effort. And it's how it happened that was concerning - non-existent completion rates, awful defence, no organisation, no heart. We looked like a bush team given a wikdcard. I'd hate to think fans waste their money going over to see that. It's not the loss or the score that was hard to take but just give a yelp please! Apart from Tim Simona making something out of error 5,000 we'd have ended with a zero and not come close to scoring.

Let's hope game 2 is better cause that was woeful.

That was my point earlier where I got pulled up by a forumer suggesting I settle down it is only 9's, it may be 9's but players need to to have a go or at least look interested, and ours were not, so who do you blame, all the players or the coach.

positives simona negatives taylor is a nuffy Lovett is just pure crap as is milone these guys aren't park players same for carr drinkwater griffin no constructive play played like strangers .

Simona is so classy.
He should be 9s captain going into the future.

Naiqama feeds off this type of stuff, expect him to shine in the next few games.
Other than that, we look trash.

Really could use Moses, Tedesco & Nofa instead of these other scrub f-boys we've picked.

Taylor doesn't want us to win. With the prize money the club could afford to pay him out….... Seriously though we should have sent a more competitive side the $$$are good.

I didn't see Heleta or Chee-Kam feature much if at all. Hopefully they are nines guns and Addo-Carr puts some stick-em on his hands.

they wont help there both rubbish as well reserves players worth about 10.50 plus gst heleta is slower than my gran with a walking stick

Sure, it is only the nines and the side we have sent is certainly not our best, however I was hoping to see some refreshed intent and some young guys having a dig. Our guys looked lazy and unfit, had very little idea with the ball and just grabbed at tackles most of the time in D - nothing has changed! It was pretty ugly really. God I hope watching them go around this season isn't going to be like that!

As for individuals… like others, I thought Simona and Kev, when he came on, were good. Hunt did OK, and certainly better than Addo-Car who couldn't tackle, read the defence, catch the ball or run.
Drinkwater has nothing to offer at all and our forwards looked the same as usual, lumbering up with little skill and asking few questions. I thought Cherrington was pretty average as well.

Besides the seeming lack of hunger and winning culture that has plagued us in recent seasons, another issue that we must address (among many) is defence out wide. We continually arm grab in the centres or allow players to get on the outside shoulder, our wingers continually come off their man leaving gaping channels for opposition wingers. Also we never seem to number up on short sides. Finally, the next guy who makes a tackle close to our line then is either slow to get up or turns his back to join the online defence leaving a gaping hole at the ruck on our try line, should be immediately sent back to park footy!! I can feel the need for urgency in my loungeroom, how come they can't when they are right there on their line in the heat of a game??

I only watched the highlights but gee Cartwright looked good. He's definitely getting a run in my SuperCoach side. Griffin might be a good cheapie too from the sounds of things…

Cartwright is good but I'd wait til see how he goes up against a side who actually tackles rather than grappling with him ineffectively.

He gets them grappling with that big fend of his though, and then he has the skill to throw perfect one arm offloads after getting the outside defender in two minds. He looks bloody dangerous to me. Effective second phase play gives most defensive units a lot of drama. Imagine Teddy running off those offloads, or Parker's offloads…

Chee-Kam I have high hopes for, he could be a real good one, if he gets a decent crack at it.

Mate you're almost up to a whinging post per minute of the game played. You're gonna struggle to keep this rate up once we hit 80 minute games…

Most of these guys aren't anywhere near top grade stuff. But surely we know that. Id be doing exactly what the club has done, give them all a run and see whats worth putting effort into. Perfect tournament to test these guys.

If anyone thought this was anything but a test run for these guys, youre kidding. Some of them you guys had in FG in round one before they ran on the field! Bought you back to earth pretty quick.

Others clubs can afford to entertain and send top liners. We cant, and thats life.
