I could have it wrong, but my understanding is that the trainer has to call for the stoppage, and our trainer didn't do that..

If the trainer calls for play to be stopped the player must leave the field I think for hia or a set period of time
Okay, that makes sense. I may have to watch the replay but I don't think Shaun Lane left the field after catching that hip to his head last night, and the ref stopped the play.
