Any rules you guys don't like and would like changed

I've got 2

1. The 7 tackle set

I'm sure it was bought in (correct me if I'm wrong) to stop teams kicking dead from kicks down field and taking the great running fullback out of the game

I agree with that but that's the only time the rule should apply

When a team kicks the ball from it's own half

Any other time it should be a 20m tap and 6 tackles

2. Putting a foot o the line and catching or touching the ball on the full

I have this rule

The ball more often than not is going to land in the field of play meaning the team kicking the ball hasn't really made a mistake

I think if someone puts a foot out and touches ball they should be ruled to have taken it out

It would make the game more interesting if the player receeiving the ball really had to get his decision right and not take the easy option of stretching his leg to touch the line and than touch the ball

These are the rules I really think are crap

The crap with stripping the ball will kill the game! Three players in the tackle, one positions himself with a dominant hold on the ball and the others drop off and the ball is stripped within the current rules. I have no problem with a one on one strip when no other player was involved. So at the very least, **the ball cannot be stripped when more than one player has or is involved in the tackle.**

I think the strip rule. They have made it worse trying to fix it. Guy puts his arm around the ball with three in the tackle, just before he strips it he’ll yell to the others to drop off. That’s not what was intended by the rule change.

Get rid of video ref. It slows the game down and only makes the referees more open to criticism of what is a very, very difficult job they try to do.

As always coaches will try to break the purpose of the rules legally

Yep I agree with those 2, it's ridiculous that an attempted field goal ends up a 7 tackle set.
The rule was introduced to stop people deliberately kicking the ball dead to reduce the threat of the back 3.

I also hate when a player is making a tackle and the attacking player throws a pass and it hits the tacklers arm as he's attempting the tackle and the ref rules that he played at it and 6 again.

You make a sound point. Simple solution is don't apply the rule to field goal attempts.

Not a terrible idea. Trouble is every one will be coached to make field goal attempts just to kick it dead. How do you police it?

Or short attacking kicks that dribble dead

I wouldn’t mind the captain’s call for try decisions. On field call needs to be made but each team’s captain can challenge the decision once, maybe twice per half and only then will it be referred (think this was trialled one off season a couple of years ago).

Game flows a lot more freely, and onus is on the players to challenge the decision (meaning they’ll likely be telling the truth if they’ve scored etc.) so they’re not wasting time mulling over something that was never going to be a try or looks contentious.

@voice_of_reason should only apply to kicks taken from more than 50m out from opposition line

I could see that working.
