NRL SIGNINGS AND RUMOURS THREAD 2010 - 2011 SEASONS

Is that official that we`ve signed Jacob Miller ?
Very good signing if true, he`s one of the best young up and coming halves running around anywhere.

Can he tackle and is he a thinking and scheming half back ?

More of a strong ball runner with blistering pace in what i`ve seen of him. Very much in the Tim Moltzen mould.
I know we could really do with a scheming half back, but they are a dying breed, very hard to find a good one these days.
Some good young players can develop into that role, Scott Prince and Jonathan Thurston were both predominately ball running halves when they were younger, look at them now.

Jacob Miller is probably a swap for Blake Lazarus (if he is going to Roosters feeder club Newtown). It's good to have another backup halfback because Moltzen and Lui get injured quite a bit.

Canberra have re-signed rising star Joel Thompson on the eve of their NRL qualifying final against Penrith.

Off contract at the end of next year, Thompson has agreed to a two-year extension which will keep him at the Raiders until the end of 2013.

The 22-year-old centre or backrower's season, which included an appearance for the Indigenous All Stars and being named 18th man for NSW Country, was ended prematurely by a groin injury.

Thompson was a member of the talented 2008 Toyota Cup premiership-winning Raiders side which also included Josh Dugan, Jarrod Croker, Travis Waddell, Shaun Fensom, Daniel Vidot and Michael Picker.

"We've got a great bunch of blokes here at the club and we all love playing together and there's a feeling we can have plenty of success if we all stay together," Thompson said.

"I didn't really want to go anywhere.

"Obviously we had that team back in 2008 which won the competition and we've all decided to stay here and try and win one at NRL level now."

Meanwhile, Canberra's opponents the Panthers also announced extensions for young prop Sam McKendry and forward Joseph Paulo.

McKendry's deal will keep him at the club until the end of 2015.

"Sam is a player who is becoming more and more noticed," Penrith chief executive Michael Leary said.

"It was important to us to keep him at the club long-term."

Local junior Paulo has signed for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Geeze!! I was really hoping we could've signed Mckendry. He seems really good and would be awesome for us off the bench with Fifita.

Sam McKendry is a good signing for these fools and he has some tries in him too ..
Hope he goes as cold as DanielMortimer and then they are stuck with him till 2015

Roosters are trying to off load phil graham he could be a handy signing for the tigers as a back up centre or winger, also hickey from the dogs looking for a club could be handy with an off season under folkes @ the tigers for cheap money.

Not for me, We got depth in the Centers and its easy to bring through young Backs.

Hickey - Big boy but doesn't have the minutes or the skills in him

For the right cash I think Hickey could be a good pickup, for the first 15-20 mins of the game.

We have sufficient outside backs.

he would have to have an almighty impact if those were his sole minutes - and truth is he does not have as big an impact as his frame would suggest.

he could not even get a start in 1st grade following his return from injury for the last 10 weeks of the season - despite their form!

If Tandy is better than him - we certainly don't need him (or Tandy for that matter)!

Bulldogs have bought virtually an entire new pack for next season with Tandy, Tolman, Pritchard & Eastwood. Their biggest problem will be the bloke they kept - Ennis!

Gold Coast have received a further boost to their promising finals campaign with rising stars Kevin Gordon and Bodene Thompson signing long-term deals at the NRL club.

The Titans are on a week off preparing for their preliminary final clash with either Sydney Roosters or Penrith at Suncorp Stadium on Friday September 24.

With a grand final berth beckoning, confidence is already high on the Gold Coast, but news that Gordon has re-signed for four years and Thompson until the end of 2013 with an option for the 2014 season, is another welcomed morale lift.

Both products of the Titans junior system, Gordon and Thompson have graduated from the Toyota Cup competition into the NRL where they've developed into two of the Titans' most dangerous players.

Flying winger Gordon has been touted as a NSW Blues bolter for next year's Origin series, while Thompson has turned into a game-breaker in 2010 off the interchange bench.

Titans managing director Michael Searle said it was significant that 20-year-old Gordon and 21-year-old Thompson had made a long-term commitment to the club.

"It excites me that both these talented local youngsters have agreed to make a long-term commitment to not only the Titans but the city of the Gold Coast," said Searle.

"I've no doubt they would have attracted significant interest from other NRL clubs so the fact they have chosen to stay loyal to the Gold Coast says something great about what we are building here at the Titans."

Coach John Cartwright said it had been satisfying watching the progress both had made over the past two years.

"Kevin and Bodene have worked hard on different aspects of the game and it's been pleasing to witness their development into regular first grade players over the past 18 months," said Cartwright.

"I'm sure both have their best football in front of them and it's great that they will be able to continue their development at the club where they started their careers."

Gordon has played 48 NRL games since making his debut in 2009 while Thompson has notched 19 first grade appearances, 16 of those this season.

Thompson, who was born in New Zealand and only took up rugby league in his late teens when he began at Keebra Park High School, said he was pleased to secure his long-term future at the club.

"It's good to have some security here over the next few years at the Titans," said Thompson.

"The club has been good to me throughout the long time that I've been here so it was pretty easy to make a decision. The Gold Coast is a great place to live.

"We've had a good season this year and I've been lucky enough to get my opportunity off the bench."

Canterbury have continued their recruitment drive for the 2011 NRL season with the signings of Grant Millington, Michael Lett and Jonathan Wright.

Forward Millington joins from Cronulla, utility back Lett comes across from St George Illawarra and centre Wright links with the Bulldogs from Parramatta.

They join an already impressive signing spree which has netted Manly half Trent Hodkinson, Eels playmaker Kris Keating, Penrith second-rower Frank Pritchard and Melbourne prop Aiden Tolman.

"Grant, Michael and Jonathon are all handy acquisitions due to their experience at NRL level and their ability to each cover more than one position," Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore said in a statement.

"All three players add plenty of quality to our squad for next season and I can see them staking a claim for selection in first grade right from the start of the year."

Millington and Wright have signed two-year deals, while Lett's contract is for the 2011 season.
