NRL Trial vs Panthers

With robbie fults and Keithy to comeback into the pack and after seeing the boys go around tonight what are people's opinions on the spots in our pack for round 1 ?
I think we have some good depth and competition for spots

Hard to say without seeing how bmm & Ava went. They were both in good form towards the end of last season & Buchanan was also ok. Add to that list Jesse Sue & things are very promising. Based on the guys who played in Camden I'd go with…

Taupau
Robbie
Woods
Siro
Patterson
Blair

Fults
Keithy
Gavet
Sue

Based on tonight's game I'd have Austin ahead of Anasta to partner brooks. He's very busy, threatens the line putting defence in 2 minds, had a strong kicking game & didn't disappoint in defence. Anasta had a strong kicking game also but I think Austin outplayed him.

Woodsy was quiet I thought, maybe he didn't play too many mins. Taupau was very impressive, as was gavet after his first spell. Siro looked dangerous a few times, he's definitely put on some size. Thompson was fairly quiet tho.

Loved Nofo's try-saver. He never stopped chasing & showed real hunger!

Plenty of positive signs tonight but we still need to work on our discipline. Also good to know that Robbie, sauce, Fults, brooks & Simona are due to return.

I'd be keen to know how big Ava, bmm & mr T went in Alice.

Potter will start with Anasta at 6 and I can understand that given his experience and good kicking game. However from what I saw of Austin tonight he is certainly First Grade standard and was very impressive. Moses was a live wire in the little time he was on the field. We are right in the halves post Benji

Rowdy , how did he go ??

Was he moving more freely than last season ??

Hard to tell from where I was. He did score an early try but that was quite close to the line. Don't remember seeing him in open space. Teddy, Nofo & Koro are all still strong & quick.

Austin looked sharp..his confident and a good talker also pulled off some good one on one tackles. I was very impressed with him. Anasta kicked the ball better than Marshall but really his not going to give you too much.
Disagree a little with you on Thompson…he pulled off some great hits I can now see why Potter likes him so much. Lulia played better than what I expected and all the new recruits did well. Good to see Gavet get a try.

what was paterson like?

Paterson was solid, and scored a sneaky try. Didn't expect him to come down with the ball in a million years, and whooshka, try.

Good in defense, and solid in attack. Didn't get massive minutes though.

thanks!

he was very strong in the air in one of his highlight packages too.

also hope thompson went well. i reckon he could be very strong in defence this year. he was great against the dragons last year and potter mentioned him once out of 10 other forwards he coulda named.

I didn't get to watch it but it sounds like there is plenty of promising signs

Yeah the same , can only get better by adding Simona, Brooks, Galloway, Fulton,Farah.
I don't know why BMM didn't make the squad vs Panthers , wonder if there is issues with his Fitness ( carrying abit to much weight maybe)

This was NOT a meaningless trial.

This will do wonder for us going into the Nines, boost confidence & self belief.

Dunno what it will do for Penrith

Ink's right , imagine if we'd lost to a second rate Penrith side last night what that would of done

Confidence will be high and hopefully we can get a positive result in the 9's

Work ethic and structure were the real positives last night

That's the most important thing at this point in time. You generally see cricket scores in the trials but any team that can hold the opposition to single digit scores is always a positive, especially a team like ours where our defensive ability has long been called into question.

Still, I will reserve judgement until after round 1 or 2 to see whether there has been a marked improvement in the squad.

if we'd lost narrowly, eveyr penrith fan would say "the tigers didnt have farah, brooks etc. etc. dont get worked up"

if we'd got thumped, then they would be happy (like we are now) and we would be a bit disappointed (like they are now).

trials are irrelevant, we were competitive with the chooks in our trial last year. not indidicative of the season whatsoever. even round ONE is often a bad indicator of the season, like the Eeels thumping the warriors round 1 2013, 50-10 or something like that IIRC.

I thought last night was a very good hit out for the team. I thought both Austin and Anasta controlled the game well. I was please to see Lawrance have a couple of nice touches, I hope he gets back to his best. I thought the defence was quite good though the Panthers did bomb some tries.

It was nice to see us play with a lot more structure than in the past.

Even minus Farah & Benji, it seems our kicking game has not suffererd at all…if anything possibly improving
