NSW State Cup

Now that Balmain don't want a joint Wests Tigers State Cup side has anything changed?

Should they ridiculed also now?

Should those that support them also be black listed from this forum ?

Over to you esteem forum users…

It should be WT in State Cup in 2013 no if's ands or buts.

Nobody should get in the way of this and hopefully through sponsorship and some channeling of club funds we can have pretty much the entire squad part time if not full time professional footballers

Smeg you know I respect your opinion. The comment and questions though are fair game.

All good Staks. I just finished editing my post anyway so yeah now it states my opinion on the issue

Its seems with the media publicity about the demise of wests magpies (daily telegraph in feb) there was an assumption that balmain would default as feeder side to WT beyond 2012.

As the facts were laid out, it seems Balmain FC are not fully embracing of the idea of a combined WT NSW cup side.

WT financial 'support' of bret for 2012 has seen them playing games at concord and being administratively run by WT but retaining the balmain identity. Wests magpies for wanting to remain a stand alone club have seen them not provided nrl fringe players resulting in lopsided scores so far for 2012

In sunmary, balmain dont want to forgo the balmain identity despite not being financially strong enough to stand alone (without ryde-eastwood) and magpies not wanting to forgo the traditional wests magpies brand and having to base a potential WT nsw cup side based in concord (and not in the junior rich south west)

Potential futures include:

- single WT nsw cup side for 2013 (legal and Joint venture constitution hurdles to overcome)
- balmain play solely one year and wests play solely the next (never against each other)
- either wests become sole feeder side for WT one year then balmain the next but both still compete each year (like 2012)
- both clubs return to sharing WT fringe players but one team takes forwards and the other takes backs (to avoid big boys bashing up against team mates)
- WT could put up a business case to determine which club (balmain or magpiea) can run a viable nsw cup side to determine a sole feeder side to WT - $$$$ related
-ARLC could reinstate a national reserve grade side for 21yo and above which would mean an end to existing nsw cup and reinstating jersey flegg comp
-potential for bundy cup 'survival' for both clubs if a WT nsw cup team ever eventuated

Obviously one team called wests tigers is the way to go.hopefully all the dinosaurs on both sides move on to make it happen

In 2013 Wests Tigers run a Wests Tigers State Cup team filled by fringe NRL players and the best non NRL players from Wests and Balmain. If either Balmain or Wests don't want to be part of this then they run their own teams in Bundy Cup.

They will both have to be a part of it but yes bundy cup allows for either club to exist at another level. Both football clubs will have to agree at board levels. Fans and diehards dont decide.

What is the background to this post? What has Balmain done or said that leads to your conclusion?

The NSW Cup side should be Wests Tigers from 2013 onwards. They should train at Concord with the NYC and FG sides and play out of Campbelltown.

Both Balmain and the Magpies should revert back to Bundy Cup so that they still have a senior team for both areas.

Just my opinion.

A bundy cup side is not critical to the birth of a WT nsw cup side. There does need to be a senior bundy cup team to send u20 players who don't cut it for NYC and anyone who doesn't cut it for a NSW cup.

Balmain would prob be unable to fund a bundy cup side without a leagues club.

As suggested before by WT ceo…

WT NRL
WT NYC
WT NSW cup (play in both balmain and wests strips)

Suggested train at concord play at campbelltown for NSW cup side sounds like a solution for serving sw sydney. A magpies bundy cup side (backed by ashfield) may also serve as a 4th tier but should be based in campbelltown to serve players in that area (rather than travelling to concord)

will wests ashfield fund a team playing all games at c-town

At the magpies agm the other week, ashfield has indicated support for the magpies in any form.

A bundy cup side is fairly cheap to operate. Even a small grant from ashfield can run a bundy cup side.

Spot on . Wests Tigers must come first .

If the respective clubs want to continue to exist , they can fund there own teams in busy cup .

Sheens will decide where he sends his fringe players… The rest is just politics between boards!

Now the NSWRL has no power over NRL Franchises, the WT should seriously look at sending the players to the Qld Cup each week as its far better than the NSW Cup.

Pretty sure that nsw and act based nrl clubs must still align with a nsw cup side. WT doesn't have a nsw cup license so are aligned with balmain. Canberra with mounties, st.george-illawarra with cutters etc

Storm are also linked to cronulla.

ARLC will decide future of nsw cup and nyc structures sometime down the track.

Just to clear one thing up, there isn't, nor has there ever been, anything in the Wests Tigers constitution about both side's having to retain their own NSW Cup team. This is just a lie. It is the same with having the Magpie on the shoulder, at no point is it even remotely mentioned in a constitution.

Just thought that should be clear, because it seems that people see this as a stumbling block for a joint State Cup team.

If it was that simple then the powers to be would have implemented a wt nsw cup side already.

Its kinda like the 1999 decision all over again this time for reserve grade.

I want to see a National reserve grade competition NRL, NRL reserves, NYC. I want to go to the footy and watch 3 games get my money's worth. Wests tigers in all 3 grades. Keep NSW cup and QLD cup top 4 teams in each cup meet in combined finals series, ( NSW Vs QLD cup).Too many players falling threw the gaps.
