WESTS TIGERS 18

The Wests Tigers NYC team have suffered a 40-18 loss to the Sydney Roosters in their Round 15 clash at Leichhardt Oval.

After falling behind 20-0 just 20 minutes into the game, the Tigers traded tries with the Roosters, until another two late tries sealed the result.

The Roosters started fast, dominating the opening 20 minutes to score four simple tries and almost play the Tigers out of the game.

Paul Rokolati grabbed the first in the 2nd minute, getting above the Tigers jumpers to claim a Riley Jacks bomb and score in the corner and establish a 6-0 lead.

The Tigers got straight back in the game on the back of some penalties, but a mistake in attack released their pressure, and the Roosters took advantage straight away through centre Joseph Forrester, who crossed in the corner after they created an overlap in the 12th minute.

With the momentum in their favour the Roosters scored another two tries through Rokolati and Forrester in either corner, on both occasions spreading to the edges and crossing on the back of an overlap to create a 20-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Tigers composed themselves after this, and maintained possession to create some pressure. Kurtis Rowe grabbed their first points in the 29th minute, using strength and footwork to cross in the left hand corner and bring back the score to 20-6.

But an error in the first set from the kick off gave the Roosters an opportunity, and they struck through Jack Siejka, barging his way over from short distance to push the lead back out to 26-6.

With the halftime break beckoning the Tigers kept themselves in the game, with Asipeli Fine breaking down the left hand side and passing inside to Rowe in support to score his second, and bring the Tigers into the break trailing 26-12.

The Tigers started the stronger in the second half, but were unable to take advantage of some early mistakes and put points on the board.

After weathering the Tigers storm, the Roosters struck first after the break as Dylan Napa barged his way over from close range in the 54th minute to open up a 30-12 gap.

The Tigers hit straight back however, as Jordan Marshall-King latched onto a dropped bomb, and planted it down next to the posts to get them back in the game at 30-18 in the 58th minute.

A try to Riley Jacks in the 67th minute to Roosters halfback Riley Jacks sealed the points for the visitors, scoring under the posts after a late offload to put the Roosters in front 36-18\. Paul Rokolati completed his hat-trick in the 71st minute, running off a good cut out pass to push the score further to 40-18.

Best for the Roosters were Dylan Napa, Riley Jacks, Dean Blackman and Paul Rokolati, while for the Tigers the best were Manaia Rudolph, Jacob Miller and Nathan Brown.

3 best ? I thought they were anything but the best.

Miller misses too many tackles same as he did last year, should just concentrate more on tackling and less on talking.

Rudolph looks like he is injured maybe needs a rest, teams have worked him out he has a very poor kick return and doesn't get involved enough.

Brown ? Lovett was streets ahead as usual of Brown. Lovett made 28 tackles Brown 11 Lovett 13 hit ups Brown 8.

Irvine, what game or games you have been watching? Not every player is perfect but it sounds like you're clutching at straws to find the negatives!
Miller gets in the mix and leads by example and he has a great kicking game that has been an imperative aspect of the teams successes thus far. Miller has been great for us this season, more so since Sirro's return; it's like Sirro's presence boosted his confidence and leadership which in turn has benefited his performance. He is captain and directs the boys around the park well just like a captain should, so to say he needs to do less talking is a little bit ridiculous!
Nathan Brown is a work-horse week in and week out and is one of the hardest working players out there! He consistently makes hit up after hit up and is huge part of our boys getting good field position! Just because the stats say Lovett had 13 hit ups and Brown 11, the real question behind the stat is how many of those hit ups were actually effective? I was at the game, as I am every week, and Brown was one of the best on Sunday.
Rudolph is there to assist looking for an offload with every hit up and his passing game has put many of the boys into gaps and/or over the line for a try. He was the player who actually made the break down the left side on Sunday to give Rowe the inside ball to put him in for a try! His defense is good too and has made many try saving tackles. So to say he looks injured, needs a rest and needs to get involved more…. I think you may need to watch a little more closely at what these boys are actually doing on the field with or without the ball in attack and defense!

A side that has been spanked by injury and suspension over the last few weeks
