it's not as though he's done a matterson.....

the guy got offered silly money to play in FNQ, and he took it....good for him

apart from a few mistakes he did well for us

good luck to him

Another great prospect ( yes he was one of our best players) let go - he may not have played his best this season,, but I did hear that he was playing with an injury - I am anxious to see who will be his replacement.

I am concerned that these players leave our club and go on to play fantastic footy for another club - why is that:scream_cat:

Most players that Tigers let go don't go on to anything. We are a middle to bottom club most years, so we aren't usually letting go of players of high quality in the first place.

But literally, you can count on one, maybe two hands the players that we misjudged and let go, who became really good - Fifita, O'Donnell come to mind. JAC, though he jumped ship too early to truly count in.

Then there are the players over whom we have no control, because they receive massive offers or want to play in clubs that are on a premiership tilt - Tedesco, Woods, Paps, Taupau.

There are the players we didn't have any choice in releasing - Suli, Lodge, Rob Lui, Tim Simona.

And then another 200 hundred or so players that we let go, who did absolutely nothing more in their careers. In just the previous 3 completed seasons up to 2018 - Idris, McIlwrick, Joel Edwards, JJ Felise, Tim Grant, LJL, Kyle Lovett, Frozone, Rankin, Ava, Bayley Siro, MWZ, Mahe, Pita Godinet, Tui Lolohea, Buchanan, Cherrington, Asipeli Fine, Justin Hunt, Nathan Milone, Jesse Sue.

So odds are very much stacked against players leaving Tigers and becoming superstars. Some folks seem to remember as 1 or 2 instances as being "standard", when actually they are the exception.

This is a fair statement jirskyr so how are we to get and KEEP a good team of players together so that we can be the club that all players would want to come to (like Rooster/Melbourne) because we are capable of winning or at least achieving top 8's year after year..
.Esan Marsters will go on to be a great player unlike some of the others you have named in the latter group here - we are going to have to replace him with someone else, I just don't see the sense in that - what if he decides he wants to leave as well ie Ryan Matterson:white- and Marsters frowning_face:

we keep a squad like that together by winning matches and harping on about the brotherhood that comes from winning.

Dare I say, lets just see how our latest brotherhood gel. Garner, Clark, Aloiai, Mikaele. I've got absolute faith in these fellas. The question is, Who's next on board?

Good luck to him. He didn't kick on this year with us for whatever reason, and I'm OK that the club didn't start talking extensions. If the Cows want to take that risk, power to them.

looks skinnier - good luck to him and his family - I am sure it would have been a hard move

G'day @momo_amp_medo: re your "I'm afraid that no matter how good you are and how great your potential is, if you don't fit into the playing group best thing for both parties is to part company".

Well said momo.

Your post is probably the most sensible I have read on here since the Ryan Matterson saga started.

Yep, people are entitled to express their opinion/feelings, but honestly...the way a lot of posters on here have been reacting to nothing more than rumors re Matterson just simply astounds and disappoints me.

It seems to me there are a lot of people on here that seem to be only too ready to throw scorn and hatred on people and things that don't sit right with them, without first knowing or understanding the 'facts', and that's a real pity.

A bit of situational awareness never goes astray, at least he isn’t getting in trouble overseas. I still believe he’s done irreparable damage to his character; a bit of a shame
