OFFICIAL: Wests Tigers sign James Tamou

That game was what the 2nd or 3rd game this season where he hasn’t come back after his first stint ? Pretty concerning from the player and the coaching

He gets dominated at times. He'd be fine as a reserve forward with other guys doing the grunt work. I don't expect him to see big minutes.

The bloke shows up for 15mins each game and then vanishes for the rest of the game. He & Madge not get on??

Poor purchase.
The has passed him bye
Ultimate plodder

Runs like a statue

Got bashed off the first hit up which set the tone

Needs to be hooked & shake hands with reserve grade coach

Today Twal was no better as well.

We got monstered with those two leading us. I don't think you can have both on the park at the same time. Two good plodder/worker types.

This is the issue. You need to have some powerful runners mixed with classic work horses. If Tamou/Twal/Seyfarth were taking a hitup after someone made a strong run and got a decent play the ball then they'd be effective - and they can do that all game.

They're not the bash through the opposition defence to make metres and put them on the back foot types. Joffa, Stefano, Mikaele, Amone are these types. You want some of each on the field at all times. Not all workers at the start and all impact off the bench.

The fact Souths had very (sometimes too) fast linespeed mixed with us lumbering around without a gameplan and with no energy meant nearly all our runners got smashed. When was the last time Twal played half an hour or less? There's a reason neither came back on the field after their first stint.

Madge is partially to blame for their less than stellar stats in attack.

A captain and prop should be expected to lead by example.
Mr nice guy simply doesn't cut it.

I've been screaming out that we don't need leadership. What happens is leadership or culture or whatever becomes a subjective criteria to judge players/teams on that doesn't matter. So we recruit leaders or people with good culture but they aren't what we need. We just need guys that bust tackles and cause havoc.

We cannot continue to go with guys that are effective plodders. Sure have one of them in the team but you can't go with 2 starting props that are effective plodders. Seyfarth to me isn't a plodder. He can stay.

Mikaele, Stef, Seyfarth are the guys who can bust tackles and create something. Then you have guys like Tamou and Twal who are good plodders. Joe O has something to his game because he can offload and put a hit on. He isn't great at getting us going forward but as a lock forward he is decent.

I think something like:-

Props:- Seyfarth, Stef
Lock: Joe O
Bench:- Mikaele (he makes too many mistakes), Twal, Blore & Jake Simpkins.

We should only have one of Twal and Tamou in the team and if we are being honest Twal is better than Tamou.

Tamou needs to go back to state cup or retire. The game has passed him by. Just because you have a "c" next to your name doesnt give you a right to a first grade jersey. If you cant run the ball with some mongrel as a front rower its time to go.

“C” stands for conman

I agree with most that he and Twal cannot be on the field at the same time. I would be dropping Twal or Tamou to the bench with Stef starting.

Every time I go on this rumours thread and see "Official" as not read I think we have signed someone but then read further for the disappointment :grimacing:

To be fair his last few games have been his best & if he keeps plagued like that I will be fine. He is making meters, quick play the balls and his D has been good.

I have to agree with Tamou, a group leader needs to come from a position of experience.

“There was a thing coming in and I wanted to uphold and drive standards and that," said the former Penrith skipper in his first season with the Tigers.

"But I couldn't come in and start yelling ... because I'm not going to get anyone's trust.

"Who am I to tell this bloke what to do ... when they've been here for a few years and endured the pain that the Tigers have.”

Still, I want o know what he underlying issues are?

Agreed. I would also like to know why it took him so long to say it was his fault in relation to (lack of) LEADERSHIP. He does not and cannot lead by example.

At which precise time would it have been appropriate for him to say this?

I don't really understand his reluctance. He was brought in to be a leader, coming from a leadership position in an elite club, we needed him to come in and yell at EVERYONE, to lift the standards to the required levels, to pull peoples heads in when they're getting distracted.
Not wanting to say anything because he's new and other players have been here longer doesn't cut it. Yell at Brooks, at Nof, at Madge if necessary. Whomever. Be the leader we brought you here to be!!
