NOt knocking you Lauren, but that article is complete rubbish. They make a big deal of taking out semis, rep games and COVID as if it is levelling the playing field, but make no mention of the fact that WT play all the out of town/low crowd teams (Cant explain Souffs this year) at LO & CSS.

Based on this report if we played ALL of our games at LO we would be a better drawing ground than Shark Park, Win, Kogarah & Brooky.

Ramy works for Manly so you caaarn't mention Brookvale..

Anyway..Liverpool has a good case for a Stadium..NRL wants hubs..more people more catchment..

Could V'landys convince Gladys..

I heard Ramy speak on a podcast once, for about an hour or so. Very unimpressive for someone who positions themselves as some kind of stats-based analysis guru. Very amateur, very weak arguments.

Newcastles home ground is in the middle of suburbia - no trendy cafes, no entertainment centres, no public transport hub - only Maccas and Hungry Jacks nearby and yet they rank 4th - sort of makes a mockery of NRL Economist.

Last time I went to Robina there was nothing doing out there either. Homebush also fairly quiet in most directions.

Area around SFS is pumping, doesn't seem to help the all-average crowds, although they are crippled by having a single tenant with renowned weak attendance.

Mate if that article is an example of the way he uses stats, he is no guru

For all the wringing and bit***** that goes on about a Home Ground we have to look to the future and not dwell on the past.
They will never increase the Capacity of Leichhardt the area would not be able to cope with increase in crowds.
Campbelltown MAYBE it's in a sporting precinct close to rail and road infrastructure
Now if we could get a new state of the art facility purpose built WT'S hierarchy would be negligent if this was not pursued.
As I said earlier it all about the future and not about the past.

No he's a hack peanut. I believe he's a Dogs or Dragons supporter, employed by Manly. How much worse can that get?

Really, an absolute dunce, everything I've read from him is pure tripe. And hearing him speak, I can hear why his articles are pulp.

The Rugby League Eye Test on twitter and RL Writers are the best in the business when it comes to numbers and proper footy analysis. far better than the tripe served up by the mainstream media. The Economist has sold out, was far better when he was an independent.

The main problem that I see with that article (and others here have touched on it) is that it doesn't show causality.

Even if the numbers were statistically valid (they're not, for reason already discussed) can you be certain that the location of the grounds are the sole reason for the poor ranking. The article doesn't prove the point it is trying to make.

Crowds may increase if capacity is increased and facilities improved. Public transport can be improved and increased on game days etc..

The other problem that I have is that the discussion is about where to spend money on upgrading grounds. So why include a whole lot of grounds in the comparison table that are not up for consideration of an upgrade (including grounds located interstate). If it were limited to only those grounds that might be considered for an upgrade, then the range of average attendance will reduce considerably.

The purpose of this article is to advance an agenda. (Liverpool?)

But, it would still be nice to have one home ground with good public transport links and adjacent entertainment and restaurant facilities.

Ive always been a supporter of the one home ground,Iam an older person of the community and was raised with going to Rugby league at teams home venues, let me put it this way,in my generation and I go back a while, following Balmain you went to LO,Newtown/Henson park,Bulldogs /Belmore,Souths Redfern..etc,you must see the picture now...However with the massive changes and the super league battle to rugby league has produced an even tougher money making arena..
The preferences have now been with big stadia as we progress into the new millenium...
Bigger dollar offerings and dividends influence the economics of clubs bottom lines..
I dont think a suburban ground as much as most of us love visiting them to watch games will survive in todays volatile dollar domain...
If we have a large stadium that will be our "home ground ''that we can call our jungle, then that gives us a feel of playing at home and an advantage that can be powerful in its own way...
I dont know if some of the younger guys can follow what Im saying, but I think most can put 2 and 2 together to get my drift..
We play at a number of venues to rake in the dollars..
When we are in winning form and play competatively the fans will follow hence increasing crowd numbers,no matter where we play....just my opinion and dont want to aggrivate anyone who has an opinion opposite to mine...we all follow the one great team....

Agreed, he makes an argument for why certain grounds should not be made into mini Bankwests, then proceeds to show how good Bankwest is at drawing crowds.

Who ever would have thought that grounds in need of an upgrade aren't tremendously popular with crowds? But Ramy tells us that's not a reason to give them an upgrade. Deny them an upgrade because that's exactly what they need.

And who is to say that a local ground upgrade isn't part of a greater plan to boost local business, cafes, dining etc. as a "precinct" rather than just a refurbished ground?
