Onitoni Large to Manly

nobody is showing much faith in bunji! Except Luai, Galvin will leave as soon as he can, don’t bank on him. Seagulls steal another tiger. How in hell do we develop a player all through the grades and he just walks away on his contract???
I hear bunji is massively on the nose for developing players, they see no improvement under his coaching is what I am hearing.

If the 2 clauses in his contract were true about Tim Sheens having to remain in charge of development and a pathway having to remain open for him to be playing halfback then its just another example of how terrible our previous administration was. All i can say is thank god Richardson doesnt believe in these sorts of clauses in contracts as they are becoming very tiring.
Where did you hear this? Awful if true

what about his brother Ashton, Manly probably need a 9 too.
With Da Silva blocking the pathway he probably heads for the exit too

Stocky now would be good in the centres hard runner
of the ball little tank in defence. Reminds me of Izaia
perese who used to play league and went 2 union

I think the effects of our panic buying and sacking over the last few years has been unsettling for younger players, who are looking for stability and a pathway to their futures.
Manly have signed Joe Walsh and Large to be their long term halves following the retirements of DCE and Brooksy. This gives them confidence to proceed with their goals and interim targets.
Its not rocket surgery but somehow we continue to stuff it up.

Your comments would make sense if the club hadn't already identified that Galvin/Fainu with Luai will be our halves pairing.

I know the club doesn’t usually give out any insight to what went wrong with negotiations or why they went down the track to allow Large to leave, but after being told to be patient and wait till the seeds of our pathways system start to blossom, I think the fans needs a explanation.

We have just secured our third spoon on a trot, lost our two best forwards, lost about five of our pathway kids including the so called jewel in the crown in Large and there is deafening silence from the club. The fan base need something to give them a glimmer of hope

Last year the Dogs snatched Alex Conti, this year the Eagles snatch Large, next year the Rorters will sntach Glavin....we develop for other clubs...may as well chuck in the towel.
Yep it happens all the time.
But we snatched the Fainu boys from Manly just last year.
We’ve just gotta hope Richo and the club can keep the better ones that continue our progress.
TBH I’m not too worried about this one, I think our priority should be retaining Gal long term. Get the NRL side winning again and the next gen’s big thing may wanna stay regardless of outside pressure.

There are plenty of rumours on twitter that the brother will follow… it is only twitter tho so not very reliable to say the least

We have the NSW five eighth
We have the best young five eighth
Some on here will tell you another five eighth on our roster below him is better than the best young five eighth

Put down the nooses over Large.

It’s pretty obvious that the brothers will head in the same direction. That is the usual outcome in these situations. Sadly you just have to move on and find another kid that wants to be part of the dream

Yes, the contract terms sound like another stuff up, but when you zoom out and look at where we are at:
1. His strengths so far seem to suit fullback/centre - maybe running 5/8.
3. Onitoni only wants to be a 5/8
2. We don't need 5/8's in the addressable planning horizon. Latu is a backup already and was rated easily as highly as Onitoni at the same age. No-one would suggest to release Latu to sign Onitoni.

I think the majority would understand that we wouldn't gamble on giving Onitoni a top 30 contract right now, especially when he would be back up for a back up. We need Props, a lock and another second rower.

And how will the players be distributed to the clubs after their development ? Drafts won’t work in our game … as players will just go and play Rugby Union if they don’t want to join the clubs that draft them

A lot of salty people about this lol… going to ‘a team that will be sh*t in 2 years, ‘doesn’t want to work hard’ etc… In reality he’s looking out for himself & going to have a lot clearer path to first grade with DCE near the end compared to having the best young 5/8 (Galvin) & a half signed for over $1 mill in Luai on a 4 year deal - not to mention Fainu that’s also infront, 1 of the most talented jnr half’s in years. It sucks to lose talented young players of course but I think this just means Galvin has locked in 🔒
Not every player can play rugby - and there aren't that many avenues in Australian rugby to get a big contract.

In this situation he could given Large was contracted. That aside, he may not be able to directly decide if players choose to stay or go but he can be highly influential on their decision. He/Benji have failed to foster an environment where the kid believes our club is the best option for his development. Losing a highly touted player is a concern, whether he has a clear pathway here or not, particular as he has not left for a starting position elsewhere. The fact it has happened shortly after a few other young high profile players have also left, requested to leave or not yet recommitted makes it more concerning.
Do you have some knowledge about the deal that we don't? There's a lot of assumptions here.

The reports were Seibold offered him a debut next year, yet you are confidently spouting he did not leave for a first grade spot.

Everything aside, he is 18 next year and wants to play 5/8. How would you have handled the situation to guarantee him a path to first grade in his position?

Who were you going to move on? Galvin? Fainu? But if we lost either one of them, that would be a balls up by the club too right? So I guess they need to find new positions AND be happy with it? Ok...so if the answer is to change Galvin and Fainus position, what position would they play and how are you going to make them really pumped about it? How would you have managed that? Let us know so we can learn for next time.
