Other Goal kicking options?

the problem is he rushes the kicks. he does not seem to take his time when placing the ball and consentrate when about to kick it. he puts it on the kicking-tee, walks back, has a look and cracks it. however you can not blame him. not everyone is a great kicker. sheens said early on in the season when he misses a heap in a game that benji is our first choice kicker and we are going to stick with him. i think we sack Jason taylor as kicking coach n bring in el Magic.

Marshall will stick with the goalkicking duties. Meaney is not an option as he suffered a serious injury last Saturday and may well be out for the season depending on scans.

Imo Benji should not be allowed to kick a ball period short long for goal whatever. He's proved time and time again that he is no good at it. Surely Lawrence or someone else can strike a ball better than him.

IMO YO ATFS!

What??? 😕

Farah wasn't a great goal kicker but he was kicking at 70% which is better than what Benji is kicking.

I guess you just have those kind of days. Benji was hitting them sweetly last week. Bit like playing pool at the pub, you simply have a night when you can't sink a shot.
Still, I hope Benji contacts Halligan or Ridge to improve his technique

well, I was fairly concerned with the kicking last night, but looking back on it….he didn't miss the kicks by huge margins...we could just chalk it up to a bad night, as NZ said, he was kicking them sweetly last week. I think things have improved, but will it be enough for the coming weeks and the finals? that's the concern.

and to be fair Sheens said we will bring in the kicking coach AGAIN this week
which indicates work has been being done

I agree with Benji rushing his kicks. Last night the music was still playing when one of the conversions were taken.

Benji Marshall has to be replaced as goal kicker. If Mr Sheens feels it is not yet time to panic, well Mr Sheens I think all of the users of this forum believe that it is time to PANIC !! Benji has been unreliable all season, and in these pressure matches, he just rushes his kicking, and hopes for the best. That is not satisfactory , especially if it comes down to a close game, and the goal kicking is the difference. Please REPLACE BENJI IN HIS GOAL KICKING ROLE, (otherwise he is fantastic)

Last week we won by a point because he kicked 2 from the sideline and a 51m field goal. Last night he had a bad night but I remember Hodgo kicking 1 from 7 against Melbourne once at Leichhardt.

Let's see how he goes the next couple of weeks before you go overboard.

Lets give it to Fitzhenry, he's no good at anything else and Sheens needs another excuse to keep him in the team. Not that he will ever run out of them.

It makes about as much sense as his selection every week!!

It's something we need to address in the player market. Marshall has enough pressure on him without needing to kick the goals as well. One day it will haunt us in a big way. Even if he kicked 3/6 last night it would've made all the difference without needing the last minute try.

I have to agree…...a goal kicker in the low 60's is going to come back and hurt us in tight games.

I think Sheens will stay with Benji for the rest of the season, and maybe the next couple of games will help him with his confidence....**BUT**....we should be looking at the market for 2011 for a high percentage kicker.

We need someone who will hold down a first grade spot......any ideas??

Will will go no where in the semis without a high percentage kicker as all the top clubs have one sorry another blunder but the great man.

People aren't going overboard. This year his percentage is in the low 60's and his career percentage is around 68%.

Michael Gordon if we don't re-sign Tuiaki.

I was stunned when Sheens said last night that nobody else is practising the goal kicking at training. What would happen if Benji got injured? It just seems to me that they don't think goal kicking is all that important which is very wrong.
