Packer & Reynolds

He should retire regardless. He’s done and if he’s getting extended headaches it only adds weight to the retirement discussion. Unless there is some obligation to play next year to get his money.

Hopefully it’s abit of an eye opener to him there is more to life than playing footy why risk your health for the rest of your life to run on from The bench 3 or 4 times A season When you could be Medically retired and paid out in full

Obviously a medical retirement would be a great result for us, but remember Liam Fulton retired because of concussion issue yet was never medically retired but the NRL. Not sure if they have changed their stance since than. I guess most players would qualify for medical retirement from concussion issues if they pushed the issue.

Anyway bottom line..I hope he is okay and doesn’t have some serious issues

They would surely have changed the rules as Fulton was the first but I believe his contract wasn’t on the salary cap they just had to keep him working at the club to earn his money.

Glasby medically retired due to concussion last week so it is possible. As some one said the NRL won’t play games with concussion they’ll retire someone for it if there’s any long term worry

Yeah, as soon as a neurologist states that a player is causing long term damage by continuing to play they will allow a medical retirement.

think a medical retirement would be a long way away for Packer with concussion. as far as I'm concerned this is the first we've heard of him having issues with his head.

Nothing wrong with his head.....he has a double degree; negotiated a 4 year deal to do nothing - that's one smart cookie

I don’t think it’ll happen though and for Russell’s sake I hope the headaches go away. Concussion is horrible and any long term damage would be terrible.

I think Cordner would be closer to be medically retired from concussion than Packer. But I hope no I'll of Packer with this stuff, I'd rather have leg problems. This stuff is no good for the rest of your life :/

I don't think anyone is really serious

Madge blew it a couple of months ago when he claimed that Russell has worked wonders to get his body right, claiming it was a credit to him... and with that comment our chances of medical retirement flew out the window

Nope head knock was from a few weeks ago. That’s perfect as CTE is no joke . And they can’t really prove it until you’re dead brain has been put under the microscope. As snake said , you’d be crazy as a company to take that risk , as I would guess most footy players at the elite level would have some contusions on the brain when the die.

These head knocks are going to put a huge amount of pressure on everyone involved the doctors ,the NRL,the clubs and the players.
Litigation will be enormous in years to come with decisions that have been made and decisions that have to be made it will take a brave person to say his fine to play then the player ends up with a permanent disability
