I find it funny that Paps who was unwanted 18 months ago is lamented more than the best player in the world who also used to play for us and has since gone on to win a premiership every year since he left.

I think some on here are related to him.

Some on here may have watched him through the Balmain juniors and knew what an outstanding footballer he was and would become.

And yet you were silent until he came into first grade.

Go and do a little research. You will find quite an exchange on thus forum between Willow, a few others and I when it was learnt he was gone. The indisputable fact is, had it been a leading club, he would still be at the Club. Why is that? That's how top clubs stay at the top.

Don’t need to, there were no threads about him early last year or the year before.

Time to move on.

So don't come on here suggesting this frustration is from bandwagoners. It is frustration born of inept recruitment and retention officers at the club at the time. A star dismissed with the 70kgs comment? Disgraceful.

It’s a forum. My comment was why should they have prioritised a 70kg fullback over a current origin fullback.

I’m convinced you’re related to him.

Are you suggesting the Club wasn't sufficiently professional to handle two sets of negotiations?

Tedesco showed the Club whom he was during the Raiders episode. Why did 't they believe him?

Why does my interest in a Balmain junior require me to be a relative to validate your position?

And twice I've heard former players state Papenhuyzen was unwanted. That is very poor reflection on the club.

My opinion is purely based on the fact that Paps was one of our finer junior players but was well behind Tedesco in order of preference, yes Tedesco is a fantastic player who was one of ours and was pandered to because of his skillset ...he also wanted out when he reneged on the raiders deal and stayed, mainly because he was very well looked after when he was injured in his famous 20 minute debut and was sidelined for 12/14 months...he still went looking when he was taken by the Roosters...
My point is mainly the poor management at the time didnt see the potential that Paps had shown and they should of kept an eye on his future potential instead of just releasing him while Tedesco hummed and harred about his future...

There is some re writing of history here..Papenhuyzen was offered a contract by Wests Tigers..he wasn't shown the door ..Melbourne also offered a contract of similar value.....Papenhuyzen chose to go there..that is from his own mouth..

Yes you probably are correct, but him taking the Melb offer would have been because he saw no future behind Tedesco ...it was Tedesco who should wear the brunt because he wanted out but dragged the club along until the Roosters deal came along....Tedesco may be a great player but Paps is the better person of character..

Another little know fact is Papenhuyzen played his junior junior footy in the Parramatta district and failed to make their rep sides so moved over to Balmain with the Shammrocks..

So why did Parra let him go..

They had King Gutho ?

Dont know anything about Parra or their juniors,we had Paps as a junior and there was a fair bit of comment about his skills and potential...not interested in anything other than our club and he apparently was a very good potential NRL player like many before him....

The reason why the trajectory of Paps' career has taken a turn for the best is down to two things.
1)The overall structure of the system he chose to go to - including the stability it has for development and the calibre of coaching staff and players surrounding him, as well as
2)The current format of the game.
If we weren't witnessing an evolution in the current game, IMO there'd be no guarantee he'd be as successful this year.

This same topic is brought up incessantly in the forum and while I can understand the frustration, I don't see how going around in circles is constructive because we're (our recruitment/retention history) the flavour of the month.
Yes, our administration have made disastrous choices.
Yes we all can agree that the recent instability of our systems show an incapacity to nurture junior talent.
We all recognise these mistakes but hopefully have learned from them and now unfortunately only serve as a cautionary tale.
Being stuck in the past doesn't serve any of us.

Well whilst we are at it why don't we travel back further in time to when Glenn Morrison left Balmain?
